This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I did a whole wrap on the Mikage thing as well.

Somehow, I find it important to post about this here:
Alot of the analysis on this site seems completely out of left field (and the subsequent fun everyone has over what April6e wrote, which is the main thing )

For the first time since November 9, 2009, the analysis catalogue has received an update. I'd say it has gone from gigantic to titanic, except that it doesn't have a Celine Dion song to go with it (yet). I may still fiddle with the organization, but new sections include: Apocalypse and Revolution; Music, OP, and EDs; Race, Class, Culture, and Gender; What Is SKU?; and Superlatives. The video game and stage plays also have their own (small) sections.
Enjoy!

Woohoo! Several of the new threads are ones I started!
I still regret never continuing that series on SKU and Kabbalah, but I decided I lacked the depth of understanding to accomplish it in any satisfactory manner. Perhaps I'll continue it once I'm done with grad school.

That's a lot of words. Thank you so much for doing this, I know how much work that must have been

It was a lot of work, but hardly a fraction as much as you and Gio routinely put in on maintaining EM, adding new material to the site, designing fresh layouts, debugging and redesigning the gallery, and now updating the Tumblr -- to say nothing of moderating IRG, installing BBcode updates, helping users with their technical and health problems, and the other manifest and sundry ways you help make this website a place that not only exists but also thrives and grows and feels like a home to so many of us. This is one small way I can pay it forward. Thank you.

Cool, satyr. Thanks for making things a little more easily accessible!
As far as suggestions go, be sure to add Shiva Indis's earlier, fuller translation of that material on the second musical:

Is there a list of essential analysis essays anywhere?
Offline
To me, the essential analysis essays will always be the ones on the Empty Movement main site. Those are the ones that got me into thinking about SKU as a serious work of literature in the first place.

So I was reading the disclaimer page and read "Akio and Touga were definitely screwing". When was this implied? Don't tell me late night car journeys are a metaphor for sex. (In all honesty though Its been ages since I watched the show so I may have forgotten some important details).

That's a good question, but this thread is not the place to ask it. The place to ask it is this thread, one of the oldest threads on the forum.
