This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Tweeted by Hoshino Lily and RT'd by Ikuhara. Concept art?

It does look like concept art of a new char . . . one who resembles a sexualized female teddydrum somewhat

Here's a new one
Maybe it's an adult Momoka? The peach shape on her erm, crotch area makes me think that. XD

That would support a sequel possibility, which I'd much prefer over a reboot.

Just tumblr-ed and found the pic. I wonder if anyone has seen it yet:

Yeah, a troll that managed to make us nearly shit ourselves in tears and excitement. I damn nearly threw myself out of bed over five times because of what happened. And I'm not even done with the series yet.
Someone brought up Penguinbear possibly being a movie; maybe something like Adolescence of Utena?
Also:
A rather simple spelling error. (Good thing MP isn't a Gainax property.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've also attempted to translate the line of text also found on the screen.
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9ybypmvOW1runs7z.png
But on the page source, I can't find that exact line, and instead found the line boxed in red, the keywords.
Most times I've translated it, and it's brought up Ikuhara's name, drum, and a new word: wheel, or wheels.
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9yc83oYeW1runs7z.png
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9yc8bAerY1runs7z.png
EDIT: That later part of the keywords is actually Mawaru Penguindrum itself (輪るピングドラム), so it's probably just referencing the fact that Penguinbear's related to Penguindrum.
Ikuhara's been using the bear and penguin emoticons a lot lately on his Twitter. He mentions "meetings" and on December 1st he posted:
いよいよ今日から(・⊝・)( ・(ェ)・ )本格始動。
Which means: from today (・⊝・)( ・(ェ)・ ) finally started full-scale. (according to an online translator, anyway. )
So that's kind of exciting. Hopefully the site updates soon.
There's been a little activity on Twitter recently, with the official Penguindrum blog posting this:
苹果ちゃん、クリスマスって予定ある? もし良かったら家に来ない?冠ちゃんと晶ちゃんとパーティーしようって話してたんだ♪(陽毬)
“Ringo-chan, are you busy on Christmas? If it’s okay, do you want to come over to our house? You might say I’m going to have a party with Kan-chan and Sho-chan ♪” (Himari)
いくいく!じゃあカレー型ブッシュドノエル作って持って行くね!(苹果 )
“I’m coming, I’m coming! I’ll bring a Bush de noel made of out curry!” (Ringo)
えー⁈すごーい! それじゃあ楽しみにしてるね♪(陽毬)
“Eh?! Amazing!! Well, i’m looking forward to it♪” (Himari)
えへへ、楽しみだね! そして今日はカレーの日なんだゾ!(苹果 )
“ehehehe, I’m looking forward to it, too! Since today is Curry Day!!” (Ringo)
Hmmmm. >_>
The site finally updated!
http://penguinbear.com/
It will be a manga, but there might also be an anime component.
I'm kind of disappointed that it's not a new anime series/movie, and also seems to feature new characters...but who knows? It might end up being amazing. We'll have to wait and see!
I'm guessing the manga is gonna be a spin off focusing on another set of chars in a similar (hopefully same) universe.
So it's unlikely to become an anime/movie at this point, huh? Oh well
This thread made me wonder:
What should Kunihiko Ikuhara do next after Penguindrum? Personally I think should reunite with Yoji Enokido + Chiho Saito to create a proper spiritual successor to Utena like Star driver didn't have Ikuhare writing and Penguindrum didn't have Enokido style of scripting and symbolism plus Chiho Saito has't done a huge project in a while(?) so it would be great for them to do a spiritual successor after 14 years since the japanese release of the movie.
But that would be insane so I think He will be supervising the new Sailor moon anime that going to be release this year
Not necessarily. Today he posted this on his twitter:
It looks like Kanba next to Himari, and I'm sure Shouma's there too. So I'm sure they'll be in it.
Plus if you look on Penguinbear, he has storyboards posted. Manga doesn't usually get storyboards, does it? So I'm still holding out hope for an anime.
Here's to hoping
And it does look like all three Takakuras are on the newest image (130130) on Penguinbear.com. I can make out the kajis "new survival strategy" beside the image. If this is a sequel, then more power to it!
Edited to add: this line " コミックバーズにて" means "bird manga", so both the image and the line on the main page says something like "a new (penguindrum) manga is in development", so the manga thing is confirmed. Hopefully, Ikuhara would post more so we'd know if any form of anime would also be in the works.
He's like 60 now, right? I doubt he exercises that much control over his projects anymore. I mean, he's basically just giving this one to the mangaka.
From Wikipedia: 幾原 邦彦, Ikuhara Kunihiko, born December 21, 1964
Either way, I hope he'd still have some control over the manga despite it being another artist's artwork. I'd be sad if the manga is using the same cast, but have themes/atmospheres that are irrelevant to the original TV show.
It seems like he's been pretty active with it so far. On Twitter he keeps talking about all the meetings he's going to for Penguinbear, so I think he still has a lot of control over it.
Director Kunihiko Ikuhara (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Penguindrum, several Sailor Moon television series) presented brief footage from his new anime work, tentatively titled "Yuri Kuma Arashi" (literally, Yuri Bear Storm), in a discussion event on Saturday. The footage featured a bear that transformed into a girl. Ikuhara did not state how the project will be released.
I do wonder about the logo of the site though. It doesn't really look like a bear at all.
According to Ikuhara's tweet: https://twitter.com/ikuni_noise/status/ … 2409595904 it looks like the Penguindrum manga is coming out on May 30th!
He's not, but I wouldn't see that stopping him anyway. I can't see him as an adult who forgot what it meant to be young.
Some more info! Penguinbear is actually Love Bullet.
