This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
No...Kon Satoshi is my favorite anime director. This is just such a shock, especially given his young age and that there hadn't been any announcements of illness, etc. Someone said it was cancer, but I'll wait and see what ANN says is the official cause of death. Given that he was a giant of anime, I figure they'll provide as much info as they can come up with.
Perhaps tonight is the night to start finally watching Paranoia Agent.

Heard the news about Satoshi Kon today... such a shock. This was far before his time...

This is awful! He was a brilliant director; Paprika and Perfect Blue are two of the works that really pulled me into deep, psychological anime. Such a tragedy.
Mylene, I think this would indeed be a good time to start on Paranoia Agent. I might have to dig around and find my copy of Perfect Blue for a rewatch.

I've only seen Tokyo Godfathers.
And from that, I can say the man was amazing.

This is so very sad A very talented man. I've seen Perfect Blue and Paprika. Now I'll have to see the rest. Not that I mind Except that I mind that he's dead

Damn. I loved Paprika and Paranoia Agent. He'll be sorely missed.

I cannot believe this. I loved his work so much. Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, Millennium Actress, Paprika... I'll need to watch Paranoia Agent, now.
Rest in peace you brilliant man. May the afterlife be as vivid, creative and moving as you are.

It's pancreatic cancer apparently... Satoshi already saw it coming for a while, it seems.
He wrote his last words. It makes me cry. http://www.makikoitoh.com/journal/satos … last-words

RIP, Satoshi Kon
This is the saddest thing ever; I just heard this a few minutes ago, and thought it was a hoax. He was freakin' the best.

I had no idea Tony Curtis is dead

RIP Kon and beautiful homolicious Tony Curtis! For fellow Satoshi Kon lovers, check out the immensely disturbing trailer for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, which seems to be heavily influenced by Perfect Blue. Nerd fact of the day: Aronofsky bought the rights just so he could use the bathtub scene in Requiem for a Dream. So even though Kon has passed away, we'll be seeing his influence for years to come.

That's excellent news! And to add to Kon's influence, Inception was kiiinda like Paprika... right?

That's exactly the reason why Paprika bored me (because I tried watching it after Inception).

Takeshi Shudo died yesterday, at the age of 61. He was the creator of the original Pokemon series, as well as the first 3 movies.

Leslie Nielsen has died at 84.
I remember him best from the Airplane! movies.

Surely you can't be serious!
Never saw a whole lot of his work, but he was one of those comedians who I thought was immortal...

I totally did not realize... the original writer for the pokemon series was DEAD?! I liked these first movies... They were actually very emotional (Japanese ver. anyway...)

He's going to go make heaven hilarious.
I saw an interview with him where he talked about how he took care of himself, worked out, ate right, and lived it up because life is a big joke. It kept him alive to 84 years, and they were good years. Congrats on a life well-lived, sir.

Our little blue ball of mud just became a hell of a lot less funny.

Man... that woman was timeless.
I will remember her for this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gR-vU44 … re=related
Among many other big movies she's been in.
