Re: Saparmurat Niyazov is dead: the notable deaths thread.

No...Kon Satoshi is my favorite anime director.  This is just such a shock, especially given his young age and that there hadn't been any announcements of illness, etc.  Someone said it was cancer, but I'll wait and see what ANN says is the official cause of death.  Given that he was a giant of anime, I figure they'll provide as much info as they can come up with.

Perhaps tonight is the night to start finally watching Paranoia Agent.

Heard the news about Satoshi Kon today... such a shock. This was far before his time... emot-frown

Re: Saparmurat Niyazov is dead: the notable deaths thread.

This is awful! emot-frown He was a brilliant director; Paprika and Perfect Blue are two of the works that really pulled me into deep, psychological anime. Such a tragedy.

Mylene, I think this would indeed be a good time to start on Paranoia Agent. I might have to dig around and find my copy of Perfect Blue for a rewatch.

I've only seen Tokyo Godfathers.

And from that, I can say the man was amazing.

I cannot believe this.  I loved his work so much.  Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, Millennium Actress, Paprika... I'll need to watch Paranoia Agent, now.

Rest in peace you brilliant man.  May the afterlife be as vivid, creative and moving as you are.

RIP Kon and beautiful homolicious Tony Curtis! For fellow Satoshi Kon lovers, check out the immensely disturbing trailer for Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, which seems to be heavily influenced by Perfect Blue. Nerd fact of the day: Aronofsky bought the rights just so he could use the bathtub scene in Requiem for a Dream. So even though Kon has passed away, we'll be seeing his influence for years to come.

That's excellent news! And to add to Kon's influence, Inception was kiiinda like Paprika... right? emot-confused

That's exactly the reason why Paprika bored me (because I tried watching it after Inception).

Takeshi Shudo died yesterday, at the age of 61. He was the creator of the original Pokemon series, as well as the first 3 movies.

He's going to go make heaven hilarious. etc-love

I saw an interview with him where he talked about how he took care of himself, worked out, ate right, and lived it up because life is a big joke. It kept him alive to 84 years, and they were good years. Congrats on a life well-lived, sir.

Akio, you have nice turns of phrase, but your points aren't clear and you have no textual support. I can't give this a passing grade.
