This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
What kind of pet do you prefer and why? I used to love both, but became more of a cat person later on. They're neat, quirky, and irrestibly cute when they're kittens.

I am a cat person surely...

I the kittehs! They're cute, cuddly (except for my sister's cat, which I'm convinced has Multiple Feline Personality Disorder), and can take care of themselves. Cats don't have owners, they have servants.
Dogs are nice to visit, but I'd never want one. Too much work.

Dog person.
Deathly allergic to cats.

Cat's don't crave the constant atention that dogs do but dogs are great for protection.
Still, I'm totally in love with cats/kittens, and live vicariously through my boyfriend and his ownership of two adorable cats, (one is a tuxedo!)
If I ever have to live on my own though, I'll probably end up getting a giant rottweiler or something.

Yeah, except, if I were evil enough to drown a kitten, it would require me catching the kitten, and putting the kitten in a box, things I wouldn't be able to handle without looking like this:

What about kittens covered in peanut butter?

Cat person. I have a seven year old brown tabby named Maya whom I love to death. I like dogs from a distance but I'll never own one personally.

Well, on the bright side, the peanut butter will hold their furs down so I don't have an allergic reaction, but I'd have to wash the peanut butter off of the kitten, which requires water, and kittens hate water. They generally hate me too.

If I had to choose between the 2 it would be cats, I have a deep dislike for dogs but my personal preference is for scaly things. I've wanted a python for a long time.

We have three cats, and while I do enjoy mercilessly teasing them and cuddling them, I'd prefer a dog. I wouldn't love it anymore than these cats, but I like that I could play with it on a bigger animal level

I'm a cat person, all the way.
My dad does have dogs, and they're fine, but I dislike how damn high maintenance they are.

Cat person. I don't mind dogs, but they are too attention hungry by default for my tastes - they require too much devotion on my part. I don't currently have a pet, since my dorm room is too small and doesn't allow pets anyway, but my parents have a cat, and we enjoy each other's company whenever I visit.

Totally a cat person. I've actually had people get angry at me because of my reason, too.
Dogs. Dogs, if they love you, are like slaves. Dogs are dependent. If you aren't around, your dog doesn't know what to do with itself. It needs you. If it doesn't have you, it's lost. It needs you to approve of it, needs you to be there for it, needs you for food, shelter, emotional sustenance, and if you're not there or if you disapprove, you will break its doggy little heart. Dogs are loving, yes... but with that love comes an utter responsibility that, by my view, has to preclude any other responsibility. If it doesn't, you are not respecting the depth of the dog's feeling.
On the other hand, a cat never really needs you. A cat will love you, protect you, and think you're the greatest thing in the world-- but if you're not there, the cat will get by just fine. Cats are sufficient unto themselves, and if they choose you as their cherished friend, that's what you are and that's all that you are. You aren't an owner and the cat will never be your slave. I just can't live in a relationship where I own something else, not even a pet.

I have about an equal love for both cats and dogs. I've owned dogs all my life, but I've always wanted a cat to have in the house with me. No one else in my family really like cats, though... So I'll have to get my own house before I can have one finally. I couldn't choose between the two. I would smother them both with attention and hugs until they were tired of me. *HUGE animal person*
