This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

As for the images that have text, I'll re-upload the stuff I did regarding it.
That way no one has to redo extra work or go sifting through the folders to find the relevant images.

Are there translations for these images?
Some of them are fairly obvious (Like the name tags) and some can be figured out by trial and error (The menu buttons) but a lot of them simply can't be figured out without the help of a translator.

EDIT:
Ya know, I originally didn't include the TECHOU folder because most people could already get to it easily and it took up more space. But I decided it'd be better to just go ahead and add it to the zip-file.

Could you re-upload it again? The file is gone.
I'm currently editing the images for the gui translation (so far, save point question, SAVEP_ and the main menu, ST_MENU, are done), so if there is some image I can skip doing, that would be welcome. We are now near a 1.0 release of the game translation.

This is a game I'm dying to play! It looks so interesting and it kills me inside that I don't have the ROM. ORL
On top of that, hardly anyone else I know is even aware the game exists...

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

So, is this an interesting one? I have not heard much of it, so does any of you care to tell me what it mainly is about? Besides, it is only fair that since the ones who worked so hard and put so much effort into translating this one tell me if it's a interesting one, thus I won't go through the hardships of spending much time and putting much effort like they did. emot-keke

What is it mainly about?
The game is set early in the Utena TV series. It's a visual novel where you control the choices of a female transfer student to Ohtori. She has family connections to the school, and to the mysterious other new transfer student, Sanjouin Chigusa. She gets drawn into the Dueling Game, and you as the player make choices that affect her relationships with the other characters, and ultimately determine her fate and that of the other Duelists.

Is it an interesting game?
To a non-fan, probably not. It's not a great visual novel/dating sim. It uses a sort of point system for different characters, which means that many choices come down to "who do you want to get more points with?" and that one choice is often flat-out better than the others. The paths for different characters aren't varied enough, on the whole. If you're playing it without a guide, it's very possible to lose the game in a very unsatisfactory way and be forced to start over from the beginning. The plot is okay, but certainly has some weak points.

However, to a fan of Utena, it's definitely worth a look! It's fully voiced by all the same voice actors as the series, and that's delightful. There are some fun events and conversations to be had, and the art is good. It feels like a lot of care went into it, by people who know the characters and series' themes very well.

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

The only important thing to know about this game is that if you play your cards right you can sleep with Touga. Immersion ++++++, game of the year, truly a classic for the ages. school-devil

[No I don't actually think this, although the whole Touga thing amuses me immensely.]

I think it's amazing that this happened -- a testament to the talent and passion of the coders and translators, and to a lesser extent the passion of the fandom as a whole.  Thank you and congratulations, guys. etc-love

I thought it more along the lines of 'whatever you do, you'll probably end up sleeping with Touga whether you want to or not'

He's supposedly already leaving his door unlocked for me and I've only spoken to him twice. XD

EDIT: Who's the team behind this game? Like the writing, plot and so on?

Saionji is just the funniest thing in this game.

Hey, Saionji!
ANTHYS PRETTY COOL DID U KNOW THAT
Ok sure but seriously, Saionji
ALSO I LOVE JAPANESE STUFF. AND ANTHY

Reposted mostly from one of the LP threads:

The game  was supervised by Hiroaki SAKURAI (who also directed the Kodocha anime, which is dear to my heart!), and written by Ichiro OKOUCHI. (Who did the two Utena light novels, as well as the screenplays for RahXephon, Wolf's Rain, Code Geass, and... Azumanga Daioh, among others. He gets around.)

It appears that there were co-directors: Shingo KANEKO and Toru TAKAHASHI. They both directed various episodes of Utena throughout its entire course, and were clearly as involved in the project as anyone. (Among others, Kaneko directed episode 38, and Takahashi episode 39. Props!) Series and movie animators Akemi HAYASHI and Keiko KAWASHIMA were also there for animation and visuals.

As far as "core five" Be-Papas members go, Ikuhara, Saito, and Enokido do not appear to have been involved, but the character designs were by Utena character designer Shinya HASEGAWA and Yuichiro OGURO was on-board for planning and editorial supervision.

Cool, thanks!

So I personally wouldn't take everything in the game as canon...I personally don't see Saionji taking nude baths in the dueling arena and constantly drinking Japanese tea.

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

If Ikuni, Saito, and Enokido had written the game, would that make it canon, I wonder? The game feels to me much more like Utena omake: affectionately parodic, smart about the source material but not meant to be taken seriously, like a creator wrote fanfic for their own creation. It doesn't feel like canon. But then again, neither does Curried High Trip, so... XD

It just feels like fanfic to me, exactly like you said. It does make some difference who the creators were (at least now I understand some of the choices they've made and some of the dialogue) but in the end I think we all have our own personal canon we like to believe in. emot-smile

D: HOW DID THIS HAPPEN I WAS PURSUING SAIONJI

Some more questions:

The song at the beginning, with the dudes ripping their shirts off, what are the lyrics?
The duel music when Chigusa is dueling, is it unique to the game? I don't think I've heard it but can't be sure. If it's new, can anyone provide the lyrics?
What does Chigusa's full name mean?
I see a quick peek of Mikage in the intro, is it possible to meet him in-game?
How come when Utena [wins the power to revolutionize the world she just gets stabbed in the back but when Chigusa does she gets to wipe people from history?] emot-mad (this one is rhetorical lol)

Animelyrics.com has them here.  Almost sounds like a legit alma mater. emot-rofl

I'm not sure!  Anyone?

What does Chigusa's full name mean?

I found conflicting information about this.  I can't readily find an official source that spells Sanjouin Chigusa in kanji -- I'm sure our translators here know for sure -- but a few unofficial sources give it as 三条院 千種.  EM hosts a Chigusa shrine that analyzes her name here, but (with apologies to the author) the analysis seems dodgy to me.  For example, the author says that 条院 "jouin" means the upper house of a legislature, but I think that's a different "jouin," spelled 上院.  Likewise, the author defines 千種 "chigusa" as a variety of flowering plants, which certainly fits SKU's frequent use of plant-based naming conventions, but my dictionary indicates again that that's a different "chigusa," spelled 千草.  The five characters of her name, in order, roughly mean three-article-institution thousand-species.  What do our translators think?

Yes; you just have to be really bad at it. emot-tongue

Probably because Akio thinks it's funny.  You'd have to ask the writers. emot-smile

The duel song is "Gerutsen no Kubi" (or Gertsen no Kubi) and doesn't appear in the anime, but it is included in the OST 3, track 30.
Lyrics here: http://www.animelyrics.com/anime/utena/rgugnk.htm

Yeah, you can meet Mikage in the game.
No idea about the other questions.

Also regarding what you other ones are saying about the creators of this one, it wouldn't seem a lot like a fanfic to me. It's apparently been created by people who have worked on the anime series, though only at times, thus they should have had knowledge on the story and characters, but weren't there the whole time to see how it was executed and developed by its original creators, so that's why the game seems somewhat detached from the storyline.

Well, the kanji are, in-game, definitely 三条院千種. But name meanings are kind of outside my wheelhouse.

Meaning aside, I know Sanjouin was the name of the palace of emperor Sanjou, and also his posthumous name (at least for a while?). So to me, at least, they have that fancy, imperial nobility feel like most the other Student Council surnames.

And both spellings of Chigusa are, a random Japanese dictionary tells me, synonymous. "A variety of fall grasses," I guess like these ones. Or alternately, with "色" appended to make it a color, it's a color not entirely unlike, but generally greener than, the color of Chigusa's hair. Search 千草色 on Google images to see some examples.
