This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I think I would make the series longer. That's about all.
Oh! And I'd add Holiday episodes!

Less Touga. I've said it before, but I was just struck by how pointless he was. XD; No offense to Touga fans, but all his scenes bored the hell out of me.
You are a horrible person.
Kidding, kidding. We all see the series differently. Kind of how I never get Kozue or the whole Juri-Shiori-Ruka bits unless I'm talking to someone who gets them. To be honest, most of that stuff could go missing and I probably wouldn't notice. I'm a bad fan
I think all the series needs is better animation. But it really needs that
More Touga would just be for my own personal satisfaction, the series doesn't actually need that.

Its not easy deciding on how Rebuild Of Utena should change beyond less stock footage, either making the characters older or making them look younger and getting SHAFT to redo it.
Also there will be a lot moar moe, that will be pretty much unavoidable these days anyhow.

((Nice avvy there, Tamago. ))
Along with the obviously unanimous idea of better animation, one of the things I personally would like to see is more in-depth backstory, especially for the Seikotai. How they came to be at Ohtori, how they found themselves on the council, etc... oh, and perhaps maybe a duel or two in which Utena isn't an active participant (most likely as part of that additional backstory...) as someone who was somewhat disappointed by the stock duel footage in the game between the Seikotai members, I would absolutely love to see those duels (or other encounters at the dueling arena prior to Utena's arrival) animated with the proper budget to really do justice to their individual styles.
Of course, I'm the kind of crazy person who'd go nuts with joy at the sight of an Utena fighting game (not that I think that'd ever happen, I'm just saying I think it'd be awesome.)

Wow, and I thought that I was the only person who didn't like the Truth song! I really like the series but I guess there are a few things I would change:
1.) There will be blood. I don't think that the series needs to be overly gory or anything, but it bothered me that there was not any blood when Touga got his back cut by Saionji and all we see is clothing damage. Also, it was really weird that there was no blood when Utena got stabbed. I guess they did try to show how injured she was by showing her uniform being all messed up and showing the injuries on her hands when she opened the rose gate. Still, it would make sense if there was a bit of blood for these injuries.
2.) I would like to see someone besides Touga beat Utena, such as Juri. Really, after the Student Council arc there isn't as much dramatic tension once it becomes clear that Utena is the main character and therefore can never lose again. I would like to see Juri win since after Utena, she's the second closest duelist to being a prince.
3.) Juri/Shiori kinky times. Same goes with Anthy/Utena
4.) I know a lot of people mentioned how the characters all looked older than they should be. When I started watching I figured that Utena was at least 16 until they made it clear that she was in middle school. I guess some of this is to save time on animation, but my in-universe theory is that the water supply of the school is spiked with various hormones that make you hit puberty early. Because Akio just can't stand to wait for too long, if you know what I mean.
5.) It would be cool if they had shown the student council members dueling each other too.
6.) I would have liked to see Anthy finding Utena at the end.

I have one need, and it is mighty.
For the love of all that's rosy, let Kosugi Jurota, the original voice of Akio, ALSO dub for Makio.
I do not care that there's a nifty new song in there, and we wanted to throw that singer a bone by giving him a Named Role.
Whoever made that casting decision should be banished to a corner to think about what they've done.

The Wakaba and Shiori Luv Luv Hour. Which is surprisingly not a porno, but a talkshow/call-in show about dating and relationships.

The whole series remastered with Adolescence animation.

This! I would kill to see Mikage drawn in that style.
But I'd settle for less Yaoi Hands. It may because I read too much BL and developed a physical aversion whenever I stumble on those face hugger hands, it is an artistic fail that really annoys me to no end.

Three words: Revolutionary Girl Wakaba.
They focused on the wrong character.

You are also so right. I can tell you now that while I don't like Utena, Wakaba would be far preferable to me as a main character.
[No, don't ask me what I would actually feel closest to. The closest thing is Unrevolutionary Dude Touga, although even that isn't perfect.]

I've been thinking about this ever since you've mentioned it, imagining it in my mind and for some reason having it blown before I could finish imagining it. The animation is luscious and elaborate and fits the movie great, but perhaps that is why I cannot imagine it in the series. It sets a specific tone, one which would, for me, turn the series into something else entirely. Of course, we're talking about improvements here, but I kinda like how good SKU can be even when it's shoddy.
For me... I think I would go with... different directorial decisions about the pacing and structure of the actual show (I realize some of it was mentioned in the BRS topic). I love the characters and their complexities, but the way they are presented in the show makes them seem almost like symbols. Like sketches of an idea of a character. They're representing notes of their character and we as the viewers read them and turn them into a narrative within our minds. It's not necessarily bad on its own, but I would put them outside their formulaic appearances. More everyday situations? Quiet pauses? Interactions between each other which aren't meant to be so... monumentally representative of them, I guess? I may not be explaining this too well right now.
Also, if the 'duel of the week' format would be kept, I'd try to somehow make it less 'same as the previous episode but with different people'. It's great for character exploration, but in more of a 'lab experiment with rats' sort of way than a 'I'm telling a riveting story here' way. Perhaps that's an interesting choice, since so many (western?) stories try so hard to tell a riveting story, while SKU here has lasting power with just the way it is.
