This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Hey everyone, out of all the perplexing questions related to Utena, this is possibly the one that's boggled me the most over the years. Just what exactly is Akio's tower supposed to be shaped like?? I swear, it looks like *something* I've seen before in my life, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Can anyone help me out here?

After you figure that one out go take a look at the gateway to the dueling forest.

Like Ohtori Academy itself, the shape of Akio's tower is inspired by ancient Japanese burial mounds, or kofun. They were often "keyhole" shaped, with a round top and trapezoidal base that sort of fans out a little towards the bottom.
Not sure why the tower has that extremely long portion that's perfectly straight, though. It makes the shape very hard to recognize.

P.S. Just to be clear, that was a joke, and it's totally shaped like a phallus.
