This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

I'm a huge Azumanga Daioh fan, so I couldn't stop laughing when I saw that. (I love the part where Akio and Touga are driving together! XD) However, I wasn't very happy with what they did to Shiori... Then again, when am I ever?
If you can, I'd recommend watching Azumanga Daioh if you like animes with no real plot other than, "It's cute!" It's very ammusing, as long as you aren't opposed to random silliness.
...and that got me thinking... what series (anime or otherwise) do you enjoy solely for the fact of rotting your teeth and saying "awww, that's just so cute!" ?
For me, this addiction was probably subconsciously planted by Magical Project S a few years ago, but only came to the surface recently when I discovered Bottle Fairy. Shamelessly cute, and totally addicting.
As a result, I have sought out other series in this vein. I'm currently watching Strawberry Marshmallow which is of course cute, but also funny with it's straight delivery of the totally goofy kinds of things that 12 year old (anime) girls do. It's a slice of life show, so everything just happens with no big story at work... you're watching kids be kids, though with a somewhat sophisticated sense of humor to go with it. And I'm completely enjoying it.
I've also recently picked up A Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar but haven't watched it yet, so I'm hoping for more of the same sugary goodness.
Azumanga Daioh is on my list of shows to get, so hopefully I'll see that sometime down the road as well...

I haven't seen much anime yet, but I love Azumanga Daioh! at times it's nice to watch something less complex and serious.

If you think of animes in the terms of food, you could compare shows like N G Evangelion to a thick chewy steak or S K Utena to a multi-layered & flavoured mudcake.
On the other hand, Azumanga Daioh is a lot like soft serve ice cream, cool, sweet, fuffy and easy to consume all 26 episodes in one sitting.

Oh, god... UFO Princess Valkyrie...
The cuteness factor is EVERYWHERE! There's a kitty-maid who has a gun that can turn you into a catgirl!
>< NYUUUUU!
Also, in respect to Tamago's post, would that make Pokemon a stale pretzel?

No way! Pokemon is a tasty pretzel! Lots of tasty pretzels! So many, in fact, that there's no way you can eat them all without becoming completely sick of pretzels. But hey, the video games are still fun.
Anyway, I ran into Omishi Magical Theater - Risky Safety when I was just a young fanling, and I'm still fond of it. Extremely short, cute episodes. And, of course, apprentice shinigami Risky is awesome. He could totally take Ichigo Kurosaki. Any day, any time. As long as Ichigo doesn't suddenly become happy or something.

I enjoy it for far more than the cute factor, but whenever I need a cavity I put in Fruits Basket, find a Momiji scene, and just squee. I love that little guy more than I can say.

I kinda suck at this cavities thing, I think. My guilty cavity pleasures have been Ouran High School Host Club and Paradise Kiss.

I go for Kodomo no Omocha, but...er, even though it's totally on crach that series does get kind of dark in places. Even when it's being absolutely freaking hilarious. No wonder I love SKU...

XD That was a surprise. I wasn't expecting to see my name as soon as I clicked on the thread. (I spelt "amusing" wrong. D: )
I love cute animes. I recently bought Strawberry Marshmellow and Bottle Fairy, and absolutely loved it. They were both so ridiculously adorable. <3 I've actually written an Utena fanfiction with the same concept of random cuteness.

I might be biased because I watch Pokemon (well I stopped watching it for a while cos the Johto saga dragged its ass but started watching again when Pokemon Advanced began) but I would think of Pokemon as like potato chips... you can't eat just one

Yeah, I try to do that with the Fruits Basket manga. Everything goes alright for about twenty pages or so then it's "OMG ANGST ANGST ANGST MY LIFE IS A BOTTOMLESS PIT" yet again. But I love it anyway.

I'm only on volume four! There are disadvantages to being broke. I'm a little curious about what the manga is going to do to my perception-- I went to a panel at the Utah con and there were a few eye-openers about what happens.
But Momiji=still the everlasting cuteness. -cuddles Momiji plush-

Mm. That is pretty weird. *tsk tsk*
Clamp Campus Detectives is not only ridiculously cute, it also features protagonists who are, respectively, the ten-year-old master chief/thief, the eleven-year-old elite ninja, and the twelve-year-old Dios In Training, if Dios Grew Up in Splendor and Didn't Get Run Into the Ground. And they are all so cute. This is a series that made me, as a blushing fifteen year old, feel like a dirty old man.

You know what might be interesting to see in the way of tooth-rotting cotton candy? Utena crossed with Dragon Half.

Well, I wish I could take credit, but actually, the show already exists. Yup! It's called "Goldfish Warning!" (Or "Kingyo Chuuihou!" in Japan.) It's one of Ikuhara's first efforts. Go download the first couple eps. In terms of characterization and intellectual sophistication it's Dragon Half, yet stylistically it is undeniably Utena. You will love it.

I just scribbled this on my hand so I'd remember to check for it when I got home.

Goldfish Warning is Ikuhara?! I'd heard about this show before, but had no idea it was an Ikuni project!
Time to seek that one out.

Its a pity they dont show Hamtaro on CTV anymore over here, it was my small daily dose of corny cuteness
