This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Without spoilers, I'm just going to say that this most recent season of Game of Thrones has convinced me that Jamie and Cersei are what Akio/Dios and Anthy were like at one point, mainly because I've always viewed Dios/Anthy as an amalgamation of Touga/Nanami and Miki/Kozue.

I just saw a variety of camellia called "Jury's Yellow".
Which one of you assholes is responsible?

It was Felix Jury’s older brother Les Jury who started breeding camellias and who had many released internationally through his relationship with Duncan and Davies Nurseries. Les was responsible for such classics as Elegant Beauty, Rendezvous, Jury’s Yellow, Debbie, Grand Jury, Elsie Jury and his last cultivar which was named for him, the lovely red “Les Jury”.

Well, huh. And here I thought it was too much for coincidence.

Someone posted this on Tumblr, and I couldn't stop thinking about Utena. Apparently it smells like roses too...
I found the official site.

I just asked my local Japanese grocery store if they would stock it for me.

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS! Saw it on tumblr too but there was no source... Time to get it online.
A few months ago I saw some canvases online painted with roses on them which got me thinking of Utena. Lo and behold, later I found some great shoes and a backpack that acrylics work well on so guess who's painting some roses soon. Dunno if they should be white, red, the pink/black Witch!Anthy scene or the rose signet haha

Just so you are aware, it is specialized for the face.

δῖος is a nominative epithet for Achilles and Odysseus
of course as always the Homeric hero has next to nothing to do with the kind of hero Dios represents or with the kind of villain Akio represents. Eva is Homer's, not Utena
[I don't know what the point of this post is; sorry.]

!!!!!
Amasis, are you a classicist? You always have a great classical angle!
I had no idea that Odysseus and Achilles had epithets...let alone that it was Dios.
I wrote a post in the past about Dios possibly stemming from Dioscuri.

This is probably an opinion that some might contest, but as a moderate speaker of Japanese, I think there is also a case to be made for Dios being the "shortened" version of Dioscuri. Διόσκου οι --> Διόσ. See? The contraction of words is a very common practice in Japanese, and let's keep in mind that Anthy's name is not sounded out entirely from her Greek origin of Anthea. (Neither is it transliterated in a way to suggest it is Greek...) The same thing could be happening here with Dios. And I don't think I'm pulling this out of my ass. The "Dioscuri" is referenced in Utena a few times, but perhaps it is not picked up on by an English speaker. But even if it is too esoteric for the lay viewer, it is certainly not a term that is unknown to Ikuhara. We see evidence of this in the duel song in Episode 28: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-HkednwxBw&t=19m2s
"Dios Croix" should actually be translated as "Dioscuri" here.
Castor and Pollux are also referenced elsewhere in the series too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LPJJ6Qt3vU&t=9m10s
I want to say there was one other reference to Castor and Pollux, but I can't seem to find it at the moment...

I'm 18 and so I don't think I could be a classicist in any official sense, and further not in any especially forceful sense of the term besides. And I'm not """studying""" ~Classics~ per se.

By "epithet" I refer to those meter filling adjectives that Homer throws in; this one, δῖος, means 'godlike'. Διός (note the difference in accent) is the genitive of Ζε ς and thus means "of God/Zeus", a meaning which of course somewhat overlaps.
Given the words' relative currencies probably Utena's Dios more comes from the Spanish word and not a Greek, though they're all from the same Indo-European root anyway.
The special interest was that the hero-prince's name was an epithet of the two great hero-princes. But as I said Utena's conception of a prince has nothing to do with Homer's ethos.
Edit: Sorry if that first part came off as rude.

I can just hear Jury's "What! I am not a lez!" speech in my head.
"Les, hon, not lez. Not you. Calm down. Go look at your locket and calm down."

Anytime I see someone with pink hair. I got a pink streak in my hair recently, (But it's faded now ) and I always wanted pink hair solely because of Utena. But too bad my workplace won't allow me to dye my hair completely pink, so I am stuck with a boring dirty blonde

I got some of these mints at a local store & immediately thought of Utena. I mean, rose mints! Bonus: they are tasty & awesome.

Ooh, I didn't know they had that in other flavours. I've only had them in jasmine. The moment I realized there was a tiny bit of flower in the middle of each candy was magical!
And, yes, I agree that they're pretty tasty.

I just realized that in Deipotent (the original work I'm FINALLY working on) I have a charming, promiscuous redhead who hits on the female protagonist and gets rejected. Mind you, he's got nothing on Touga in the psychologically disturbed category.

I just discovered that this song exists, and it's pretty much describes Nanami at her most Touga devoted.
