The suit said that on November 11, an assistant principal at Harriton High School told the plaintiffs' son that he was caught engaging in "improper behavior" in his home and it was captured in an image via the webcam.

Apparently the improper behavior was when the kid had some alone time fun. The principal told a student's parents he was caught masturbating on webcam... WHAT THE F***? Why is that even your business you sick piece of shit? I seriously hope someone gets fired and is actually registered as a sex offender for peeping on a student.

In any case, this is a total abuse of technology and is sickening. This should be completely illegal. Whatever monster came up with this idea should be sentenced to have to sit in solitary confinement with an audiobook of 1984 stuck on re-run for six months. Maybe not that extreme, but what do people think? Some people are just so drunk on power over people. A crude stain on society.

If it's connected, it can be turned on remotely. This is a case of abuse of anti-theft technology the school is utilizing - the idea is that if the laptop gets stolen, you can activate the webcam next time it's hooked online. And yeah, spying on kids without their knowledge is all sorts of insane and creepy. Someone needs to go to jail for this.

The only information I can find on what exactly the school thought they caught him doing suggests that it had to do with drug dealing, not masturbation. It doesn't really matter, though; I hope they string someone up for spying on a student whether they think they caught him wanking, dealing crack, or committing first-degree murder.

Are you certain he got in trouble for masturbating? I've read two articles about the incident, but neither specified what it was that he did. Either way, confronting a student with evidence obtained while SPYING is just ridiculous. It's like a burglar getting hurt while breaking into a house.

Hackers turning on webcams doesn't shock me. Keep in mind that I once had teacher who always said things like, "Do you know how easy it would be for someone to hack a satellite and point the camera into your bathroom window?!?!?1" Lucky for me, I don't have a webcam at my computer, and Kealdrea's is usually unplugged. As for the microphone... I don't really care if someone uses it as a listening device while I'm not using it. Unless some secret organization bent on finding and killing lesbians taps into my conversation, there's nothing to worry about.

Yeah I read the principal mistook some candy for drugs but (on other sites though I read that it was masturbation, maybe people just jumped to conclusions it was the kid wanking unless there's more than one person involved?)... sounds like someone is making wild accusations to justify their peeping.

EDIT: Apparently. the kid was eating Mike & Ike (jelly-bean-type candy, for those of us not in the USA). The person spying on him thought he was popping pills. Rumors from other students in the school is it was masturbation or weed.
