This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

Hey!
That's terrible.

We also just lost Bill Melendez, one of the animators of the Peanuts TV specials.

For the Forum Fashionistas: the (in)famous Mr. Blackwell died over the weekend.
Last year, he put Victoria Beckham, Amy Winehouse, and Mary-Kate Olsen on his worst dressed list in the Top 3, saying that Mary-Kate "resembles a tattered toothpick trapped in a hurricane."

Wow, that one totally got lost in all the other news of the day. That's awful.
Fanfic about a future scientist cloning Michael Crichton from skin flakes he left in amber in 3... 2... 1...

"They're breeding?" gasped the literary critic. "But how is that possible? I thought all Michael Crichtons were male!"
"They were," mused the chaotician. "But life will not be contained, life breaks free. Life... finds a way."
"I knew we shouldn't have filled in the missing parts of his genetic code with hermaphrodite DNA," moaned the scientist.
Just then the critic spotted three Michael Crichtons in the nearby trees, gazing down on the party with sinister leers. "Let's go," he said.

Shocking and sad news... he wrote some of my favorite books.

satyr...
You just recycled Michael Crichton's plot. You know, his only plot. That poor thing's gonna fall apart.
Granted, some of his books were entertaining, but... come on. One plot.
It sucks that he's dead, though-- cancer is a shitty way to die.

He was no great writer, but Jurassic Park, Sphere, and The Andromeda Strain were among my first forays into grownup books when I was a kid, so happy, if mediocre memories.
All hail Dangerous Science!

I'm glad you enjoyed my parody, Ragnarok and Yasha. It was that or the scene where the fat guy flees the facility in a hurricane after betraying his employers, only to run across a Michael Crichton with acidic saliva.

Actually, I like his books up until a point. Sphere was good, Jurassic Park was good... but there's one that no one ever talks about that I think is really the best thing he's ever written. It's called Travels, and it's semi-autobiographical. A bunch of short observation-style pieces collected together in one work that really made an impact on me growing up. I wish I had that book now.

I read a lot of his books in early middle school, Sphere being my favorite, and even though I didn't really care all that much for most of his newer stuff, it cannot really put a dent in the nostalgia I feel for his work. I am a complete weakling for nostalgia.

Sphere is my favorite too. The first time I read it, I finished the last half in one afternoon. I should read it again, it's been so long since the last time I did.
I refuse to ever watch the movie.
