He was no great writer, but Jurassic Park, Sphere, and The Andromeda Strain were among my first forays into grownup books when I was a kid, so happy, if mediocre memories.

I'm glad you enjoyed my parody, Ragnarok and Yasha. It was that or the scene where the fat guy flees the facility in a hurricane after betraying his employers, only to run across a Michael Crichton with acidic saliva.

Actually, I like his books up until a point. Sphere was good, Jurassic Park was good... but there's one that no one ever talks about that I think is really the best thing he's ever written. It's called Travels, and it's semi-autobiographical. A bunch of short observation-style pieces collected together in one work that really made an impact on me growing up. I wish I had that book now.

I read a lot of his books in early middle school, Sphere being my favorite, and even though I didn't really care all that much for most of his newer stuff, it cannot really put a dent in the nostalgia I feel for his work. I am a complete weakling for nostalgia.

Sphere is my favorite too. The first time I read it, I finished the last half in one afternoon. I should read it again, it's been so long since the last time I did.
