This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Praise his eyes Come on, we're going for a Miki ending, people...
Oh, and anyone who votes for the "Kimi Miki" joke again deserves to be sent to India to hunt exotic spices.

"Make a joke"?
Why would you people do this to me? And to yourselves? And to D-ko?
Yeah, why would you!?

My need for horrid, horrid jokes is satisfied. I vote praising his eyes.
Am I the only one who finds it odd that she can't tell Chigusa's or Utena's gender but she knows right away that Miki is a boy?
Offline
Make a Joke!!
Also, the names on the fencing hall. Aside from Chigusa, are these actually names of the voice actors/actresses? (I recognized one of them who might have done the voice for Shirou Kamui from X)

Praise his eyes and pray Kozue isn't within a fifty mile radius.

Since there is actually a legit alternative here (and we've already satisfied the bad joke requirement already) I vote praise his eyes. They're such nice eyes, too.
Offline
I've had enough of jokes. Swoon over his beautiful eyes. It would be cute to see Miki blush. (not that it's hard)
I actually wish Kozue was there for this..
Offline
This isn't so much a vote as an imperative: praise his eyes, dammit. We are not going near "Kimi Miki" again, especially not after we just got our fill of that sort of thing.

Was I the only one imaging Akio giving D-Ko directions while standing behind her, leaning down over her shoulder, their bodies not quite touching but close enough that D-ko can hear his muscles shifting against the fabric of his shirt, feel his voice tickling the curls of hair above her ears, one long finger tracing the path on the map spread out on her lap, applying just enough pressure for her to feel it though the paper. She wants to nod and affirm that she understands, but fears any movement may cause their cheeks to brush.

Yes. Yes you were.
...And now you're not.

Whoa...
I do not like Akio, but damn, that's exactly what he would do.

Praise Miki's eyes.
Wow, asking for directions has never been so sexy
Praise his eyes. How exactly does one have eyes like crystal anyway?

We suffered 'Kimi Miki' once. Never again.
Praise Miki's aquamarine orbs.

Praise his lovely, lovely eyes.

Not anymore!
I'd love to hear the voice acting in this section. I mean, purely for, uh, research purposes, of course.
And, Praise Miki's eyes. I don't want "Kimi Miki" again.

Praise his eyes
It's my natural reaction.

Praise Miki's eyes. As if everybody in the whole Utenaverse doesn't have equally jewel-like peepers.
Offline
I vote for
Mikimikimikki, kimimikkii!
Read from the bottom, too, "kimi Miki!"
Man, (something) has gotten really warm lately, hasn't it?
No I don't.
Offline
His gorgeous eyes for the win, although I have a feeling it'd be equally awkward for him.
Offline
I say we compliment his eyes because I like to be on winning teams.

You all made the right choice. Never forget "Kimi Miki." History must never be repeated.
D-ko:
Wow, you have really pretty eyes.
They're round like jewels.
Miki:
T... that's...
D-ko:
So you're really good at fencing?
My parents did a little fencing, too.
Utena:
Yeah, come to think of it,
there was a sabre in your luggage.
Miki:
Really? So you fence, as well?
D-ko:
No, not at all.
It's not that I'm not interested,
but I guess I've just never gotten around to it.
Miki:
In that case, won't you come visit the Fencing Club?
We have lots of girls, as well.
"You know, if you're into that kind of thing. Like Arisugawa-sempai is."
D-ko:
Thanks!
Miki:
Well, please enjoy yourselves.
I've got to go see to the arrangement of the food, and direct the music.
(he leaves)
MIKI +1
36% -> 45% (+9%)
Okay, so maybe each rose is simply 9%, and it's just the point subtractions that are non-standard.
(Music: Eros of the Dance, D1T11)
Utena:
I guess I shouldn't have come after all.
All in all, balls just don't suit me...
D-ko:
Then why did you come?
Utena:
Well, I thought it would be kinda rude to refuse, and...
D-ko:
And?
Utena:
Nothing.
Anthy:
You thought it would be hard for someone to come alone, right?
D-ko:
Th... then you came to keep me company?
Utena:
H... hey, since we came all the way here, let's go pinch some food.
Himemiya, come check it out!
D-ko:
Utena's so kind...!
(Music: Campus Dandy, D3T13)
Touga:
Oh, good, you came.
D-ko:
Woah, he's hot!
He's wearing a uniform like Miki's...
I guess he's in the Student Council, too?
Anyway, Utena, this guy...
why is Ohtori filled entirely with beautiful people?
Utena:
What do you want?
Touga:
What kind of a greeting is "what do you want"?
Your knight has come to ask you for a dance.
Utena:
I guess you're free to ask.
Touga:
Well, well.
And who's this, then?
Utena:
Oh, I'm not going to introduce you to her.
If I introduced her to a playboy like you,
who knows what would happen.
Touga:
Hey, now. I'm the one who sent you an invitation, you know.
(Does that not count for anything?)
Or are you jealous?
Utena:
W... who's jealous!?
Touga:
I'm Kiryuu Touga.
I'm the president of the Student Council.
If you have any problems, by all means come to me with them.
Cute girls like yourself are particularly welcome.
D-ko:
He called me cute...!
...I guess that stuff about him being a playboy is probably true.
CHOICE:
Thank him (+1 TOUGA)
Refuse the compliment
Of course, thanking Touga for a compliment is the start of a short, steep road that ends with us desperately calling him on his cell phone and getting Nanami instead, who will insult us and hang up.
The one thing to start considering at this point is that, in order to get a character ending, at least one Student Council member has to hit 0% nobility. Now, if we start focusing on someone semi-exclusively, that should end up happening anyway... and if it doesn't we get the "Perfect" ending, which would be fine too... but if we were set on having Touga fall first for some reason, that would be a reason to reject him. Probably about the only reason, really.

I think that we should refuse, because I want an Utena ending.
"Why yes, I'm refusing the playboy, Utena-sama..."
Either Utena or Juri. Juri makes me squee.
Offline
Is it just me or did our social skills improve when speaking to Miki?
Ah, I'll go with Thank Him. If a council member needs to fall, I'll go with Juri since we saw so much of her last time. Picking her again for things would feel repetative.
