This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Tell us what you're eating tonight and/or share the recipe if you feel like it.
We're having pineapple chicken. It's an easy crock pot dish.

I'm exhausted from work, so I'm having cold rice, dill and red pepper chicken, with donut holes.

Arugula and basil salad with prosciutto, parmesan, and salted olive oil. Squash soup. Pasta with smoked mackerel and capers.
We're YOLOing. Kittens apparently = REFURNISH ENTIRE LIVING ROOM NO SERIOUSLY EVERYTHING FUCK PARTICLE BOARD. No recipes because we haven't finished cooking.

Lunch: Long wheat noodles, red chili, Sichuan peppercorn salt, beef stock, pork and citrus sausages in chunks, diced chives and carrots, whole grape tomatoes, diced winter melon, and a little leftover rice and pickled mushroom. White tea, strong. And, a side of cucumber.
Because it seemed easier than just running up, grabbing some change, and having dinner downstairs, apparently. Smells good, though.

Last night we had a braised lamb and baked rice dish, which also became today's lunch. It's quite tasty, although braising the lamb takes more like 4 hours than the minimum 2 hours mentioned in the recipe I used: http://poposriver.blogspot.com/2000/01/ … -with.html
Every bite that includes a raisin is extra-heavenly! That surprise of sweet with the mild flavor of the rice and lamb is so yummy. I wish I hadn't halved the recipe this time, because I'd really like more leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Tonight it's fish tacos with homemade chipoltle sauce. I've added mayonnaise to the sauce for that special flavor.
Offline
Last night we had a smoked salmon and asparagus omelet.
No, I'm not kidding.

♫Did you ever know that you're my hero? You're everything I wish I could...♫
Seriously, that sounds fantastic and I really want it now.

It is actually quite tasty. The first time I did it I did it as a frittata and I think that didn't work quite as well as this, which was a traditional French omelet with the asparagus and salmon folded in.

Trying my hand at lamb stew and Irish soda bread for dinner tonight. I ended up making 2 loaves of the bread since I had a lot of extra buttermilk from last weekend's muffin baking. I made one plain and one with raisins. We've tasted the raisin version as a snack, and even Paradox liked it (I was worried since it has such an American biscuit flavor to it, and he's not fond of biscuits). Hopefully the stew will turn out great as well.
I really shouldn't have made 2 loaves of bread though--I have no self-control around homemade bread.

I'm about to prepare tilapia with lemon zest, asparagus, and wild rice. I have been on a seafood kick.

Leftover steak and Guinness pie, deconstructed. I made the stew portion in my crock pot, and baked the puff pastry separately. Add puff pastry to the bowl of stew upon serving.

I prepared lemony potatoes and will be making chickpea cutlets. I am going vegan for now.

Last night was grilled swordfish, orzo with mushrooms and thyme, and garlic mustard green beans. The green beans are one of my favorite dishes, and it's really hard to screw up grilled swordfish, but the orzo was lacking. I usually make it with a heavier hand of lemon juice and mix in arugula. Didn't this time, and I think it suffered.
Tonight is hot dogs. My, how far I fall.

Tonight it's salmon pasta salad. I love it cold.

Broth with rice.
I have sore throat and got cold so it will warm me up nicely.

Hotpot with chunks of salted pork sausage, tender beef strips, broccoli, and tomatoes cooked fast in a boiling mix of tomato chili sauce, nutmeg, ginger, salt pepper, and (natch) water.
Offline
Tonight it's baked potatoes with chives and onions for seasoning.

I made a Mexican mole style sauce with ground up chilis, cocoa powder, tomato paste, broth, star anise, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I put it in green lentils, black urad beans, and paneer. So..Mexican-Indian fusion?

Noodles with fresh carrots, cucumbers, chives, and chiles cooked in beer, pepper, and chicken stock with slow-cooked paprika chicken. The simple pleasures...

Ham and biscuits.
Go food! in an effort to make home made food and reduce carb consumption I attempted to make some thing along these lineshttp://deadspin.com/how-to-make-mashed- … 1443732709 but added bacon and powered mash potato flakes, because I am lazy. I hope it turns out tasty!

We're also making an effort to lower our carb consumption, so tonight's dinner is a steak salad. I started buying 10 oz ribeyes and splitting them between us, so they also help us control our portions a bit better.
Last night tho, we had company so cheating was the order of the day. Gorgonzola burgers with carmalized onions and mushrooms, and local cured bacon and many...many bottles of cider, cyser, wine, and the most bastardized attempt at a bellini I have ever made (was drinkable tho). I may have been extra cheat-y and used Trader Joe's french fries instead of making them, but they're pretty tasty -close to the fries you get at a Nordstrom's bistro, which are my personal benchmark of french fry fabulosity.

I have been eating more fruits and veggies so tonight I am making corn on the cob, homemade rolls, and fried eggplant. It tastes even better from the local farmer's market.

I'm stoked, I just saw corn for sale. I love corn. There's a particular kind, taber corn, that's big here, but winter has lingered so long I dunno what kind of crop we're going to get this year.
I always want to get so ambitious with corn, but nine times out of ten, I end up with corn on the cob, or corn soup of some kind. Hah. I used to boil the corn to eat it on the cob, but man the oven is way better.
(What is this cyser? A kind of mead what what?)
