This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I'm trying to do a trailer for Utena for a class assignment and I really need to separate the Japanese audio from Touga's speech from the Akio Arc where he convinces the duelists to 'Come to the world that they seek!.' I tried ripping the audio from the DVD using Adobe Premiere Pro and then importing it into Audacity. I then imported the background song (Shi no Butou), inverted it and used the 'Mix and Render option.' But that really didn't do anything.
Does anyone have an tips on how I might can do this or is anyone else experienced enough that they could do it? I think it's the only audio that I need that I can't get myself.
What I'm trying to do is use the engine sound by itself and cut out the duelist's responses to hearing it.

Eep, that's a tall order. I would have suggested what you just did. Maybe someone else has some suggestions, but I don't really know how you'd do this aside from trying to layer the dub and the original and see if the words are misaligned enough that you can cut and paste between them to get a final product.

Yeah, I'm surprised what I tried didn't work. If I can't do it I'll figure something else out, but I really think I can pull something awesome out if I can.
If I had to make a guess the problem is either I did something wrong or it has to do with the track being 5.1 audio and Audacity is only stereo. (Sorry if you're a sound person and what I said made ya cringe; I'm not particularly well versed on the subject ;)

That same audio sentence is in the Saturn game, although I don't remember now if there was music or not. The audio file in the game should be VD13F.ACX in SSCD/VOICE, in the second disc only. The problem is that audio format is probably unknown and there may not be a known extractor. But you can always play the game and record the sound output with some program.
Edit: but if you need more than Touga speech, then I guess it won't be useful.

That's very useful to know~!
I could always find some generic motor sound byte if I absolutely needed to.

A program called "adxplay" can convert the files from the saturn game. I extracted the audio fragments from VD13F.ACX from it. https://www.sendspace.com/file/0bzwfz
(You can use the .ini files from the translations to know the text for each audio. So for example, for file VD13F_0001, search VD13F001 in the .ini file, and so on, just beware that these file names use hexadecimal numbers and are padded to 4 digits and the .ini files use decimal numbers and padded to 3 digits, so file VD13F_000A would be VD13F010 in the ini file).

I hope the above works!! I've tried to do similar stuff before -- to separate voice from background music or vice versa -- and it's waaaay harder than it seems like it should be. No easy solution here. Good luck
