This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
So I was wondering lately about unlikely crossovers. A long time ago I found myself idly plotting a drabble where Hellsing's Integra sits down and has tea and a chat with Anthy. It never came to anything, but it was certainly an interesting image. Integra is used to playing games with dangerous immortals, but Alucard is about as different from Anthy and Akio as you can get. It would be one hell of a strange fight, that's for certain.
Shall we make a thread of it? "What anime monster would win/lose a fight against which SKU character?"
I choose Hellsing's Rip Van Winkle:
and:
A million swords of hatred against magic bullets and teeth that would make a Great White say "Oh, I say, steady on."

Hmm... usually I struggle with these fights, but this one seems pretty straightforward, with the caveat that I haven't seen Hellsing and am working from Wikipedia on Rip.
HIMEMIYA ANTHY
Good at: manipulation, illusion, sprouting swords, making shaved ice
Weak against: tomboys, princes, existential crises
Special qualities: millennia old, possibly immortal
RIP VAN WINKLE
Good at: shooting people, destroying military property, piloting helicopters with her feet
Weak against: judo, Alucard
Special qualities: vampire, Nazi, tomboy
I don't really see how Anthy's going to land a punch. Rip seems like the type to shoot first and ask questions later, so she's hard to manipulate or stab with a sword (and I dunno if swords are that consequential for vampires anyway). Maybe if Anthy transformed into Mamiya, she could get close enough to feed Rip some poisoned shaved ice? But that's pretty circuitous, and there's a risk that Anthy would get distracted by Rip's cross-dressing, or by Rip's bleedover nobility left over from her voice actress's role as Hitomi from Escaflowne. Rip, on the other hand, just has to fly over campus in a helicopter and nuke the tower with magic bullets to kill Anthy and probably break the spell that keeps her alive. Point to Rip van Winkle.
Round 2!
Excel Saga's Puchu...
...versus Chu Chu?
Offline
I'm afraid the Puchu would have to win. I love Chuchu more than most anime mascot characters, but when it comes down to it, it's a numbers game. It's a whole race of people coming for you.
Next up...
The manipulative and mysterious Souji Mikage vs.
The OCD Kira from Death Note, Teru Mikami?
Offline
Oooh, man, this one looks like a stalemate! XD
MIKAGE SOUJI
Strengths: manipulation of the insecure, brilliance, fanaticism, being creepy
Weaknesses: clinically insane, spotty memory, can be tricked
Special qualities: evil, technically not alive, in Akio's pocket
MIKAMI TERU
Strengths: killing evildoers whose name he knows, brilliance, fanaticism, being creepy
Weaknesses: clinically insane, overzealous, can be tricked
Special qualities: Shinigami eyes, lawyer powers, in Kira's pocket
What a matchup. Huh. Mikage doesn't really have a way of coming after Mikami directly; Mikage's whole schtick is that his victims come to him. Conversely, Mikami's Shinigami eyes make him unstoppable against normal people, but Mikage isn't normal. You can't kill him with the Death Note directly for the same reason you can't kill a Shinigami with the Death Note: he's not mortal. Nor can you take him out by killing Nemuro with the Death Note, since Mikage exists independently of Nemuro at this point. In theory, Mikami might be able to win, but he'd probably have to go through Akio and Anthy, and I'm not sure whether the Death Note works on them either, since they probably don't have dates of death and might not have real names.
So Mikami has to try a riskier gambit. He has to pose as an emotionally troubled lawyer, and ride Mikage's elevator to the bottom (I imagine while yelling SAKUJO! a lot). Once he's there, he's going to pull a Kanae and recognize the truth of what's going on, but he's restrained, and Mikage wouldn't listen to him about Mamiya!Anthy anyway. With a black rose on his chest, Mikami -- an evildoer himself -- might very easily write his own name in the Death Note, along with the names of all the other Kiras. Round to Mikage Souji.
Round Four! Monster's Johan Liebert...
...versus Ohtori Akio:
Offline
Borrowing satyr's format, since it seems like it's tons of fun.
Johan Liebert
Good at: manipulation, apparently everything else
Weaknesses: mortal, wants to die, certain picture books
Special qualities: Is capable of impossible precognition, Can be easily revived if shot in the head, Good with kids
Ohtori Akio
Good at: manipulation, not calling in the morning, presumably all sword-related disciplines
Weaknesses: Arrogance, THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP, doesn't seem to want to get his hands dirty
Special qualities: Immortal(?), Manipulating Rose Bride powers for grand illusions, unstoppable in the sack
This one is hard. When it comes down to it, these guys have puppet strings everywhere, so this fight isn't so much Akio vs Johan as it is army of adolescents vs army of murderers and ten year-olds. The key players in this war are obviously Anthy, who might just be able to magic Franz Bonaparta's picture book where Johan least expects it, if such a location exists, and Doctor Tenma, who can seemingly revive Johan infinitely should he take a bullet to the head. Ultimately, I can see these guys going at it for ages without ever accomplishing anything. Sure Johan wants to die, but Tenma just can't let him, no matter how much he wants it. Unfortunately, this is down to perseverance. Since Ohtori Akio is supposedly immortal and has all the patience in the world, he wins by being cheap. Though his army of sword-wielding adolescents will probably kick it in droves. This isn't a numbers game. Sorry kids.
NOTE: There is no mention of sex, since I'm almost certain Johan is asexual, and this will get Akio nowhere, if he can even track him down. He might have some luck with Tenma, but that guy has enough problems. If anything, it will protect him from the insane murderer army.

Kishimoto Kei, Gantz!

First of all, Tamago, thanks for completely disregarding the rules of this game. In answer to both of the previous posts, I guess I'll have to say that Kei Kishimoto would win simply because of technology. Miki's got a sword and a piano, and Kei has the tools, guns and weapons to ward off an alien invasion. The range alone is enough, it wouldn't even be close.
As for your question, I have never seen Hot Gimmick, but I would have to say that that girl is the weaker of the two, as Anthy isn't nearly the doormat everyone thinks she is. Anyone who's seen a majority of SKU can easily tell that Anthy has a huge hand in the orchestration of the events unfolding.
Alright, getting back on topic... this one is a little random. My least favorite SKU character vs. one of my favorite anime characters of all time.
Saionji in a fight with...
... Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop?
Offline
Saionji wins. He doesn't think twice to go for a death blow.
Next up, it's a BATTLE OF THE BISHES.
Nanami Kiryuu
vs.
Sakura Haruno
Offline
Mph. Sakura is a changing character. She would mop the floor with Nanami later in the show, but you used a picture of her from the first arc. So:
NANAMI KIRYUU
Strengths: accomplished schemer; keeps her flunkies in line; does not give up; dual-wields swords
Weaknesses: spoiled; insecure; embarrasses herself constantly; laugh arouses small dogs
Recent Opponents: Utena Tenjou (lost 0-2), Keiko Sonoda (lost 0-1), a large kitten (won 1-0)
SAKURA HARUNO (first arc)
Strengths: pure motives; accomplished chakraist; does not give up; can read ninja scrolls at rates exceeding 1000 words per minute
Weaknesses: fluorescent hair; inexperienced; freezes up under pressure (under pressure)
Recent Opponents: Haku (lost 0-1), Kakashi Hatake (lost 0-1), the love of Sasuke Uchiha (lost 0-100)
Nanami has lots of psychological weaknesses that her enemies can prey on, but Sakura doesn't really fight that way. Sakura fights straight-up. In theory she's very talented. But a battle with Nanami isn't fought against theory, it's fought against two very fast swords that keep coming even after you think you've won. At the time of the screencap, Sakura is kind of helpless in that situation. Nanami would come at Sakura, and maybe Naruto or Kakashi would step in to save her, but then Tsuwabuki would draw them off, and I think Tsuwabuki can take both Naruto and Kakashi at once. Then there is no one to save Sakura. After the battle, Nanami realizes that in spite of the hair she was in fact dueling Sakura and not Utena, so the victory doesn't help her reclaim her brother, but by then it's too late. Victory to NANAMI KIRYUU.
Next up:
Eikichi Onizuka, aka Great Teacher Onizuka...

I hate to thread necro, but can this be a general Utena vs. everything thread, instead of just anime?
As to the above, Onizuka has too many scruples to fight Kozue. However, I have no idea how good Kozue is in a fight, and Onizuka was in a Biker gang. I'll give it to him.
Up next, The team of Juri and Shiori
Vs.
Youmu Konpaku

I would have to go with Juri and Shiori, merely because of the numbers game. Regardless of Youmu's powers, two-on-one, especially with Juri's skills and her dogged determination to protect Shiori (regardless of what some might think) would overcome the half-phantom.
The Student Council: Touga, Juri, Miki and Saionji (no Chuchu, sorry)
vs.
The Corre: Ezekiel Jackson, Wade Barrett, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel

(It rises from the dead!)
While I'm not at all familiar with choreographed fighting, I'm betting on the duelists for this one- provided they can take their opponents down quickly. Having watched (and participated) in mixed martial arts fighting, I've learned that in sparring, if you're fast enough to take a heavy opponent down then you're home free. If you're not quick enough and your heavy opponent gets you on the ground, you're pretty much fucked. So: short fight to the duelists, long fight to the steroid addicts.
Anthy:
vs.
The witch responsible for all the evils of the world versus the one that destroys it.
Offline
Your skewered views and opinions on professional wrestling today as opposed to the 80's aside, I'd have to give this round to Anthy. As much as I love Sailor Saturn (She is a former Extreme Bishoujo Wrestling HoJ Champion), on her own (without the Outer Senshi with her), she's rather insecure, and would easily fall prey not only to Anthy's generousity, but would easily collapse once Anthy twisted the knife in.
Let's have ourselves a Pier 6 Brawl, shall we?
The Black Rose Duelists (Souji Mikage, Kanae Ohtori, Kozue Kaoru, Shiori Takatsuki, Mitsuru Tsuwabuki, Wakaba Shinohara, Keiko Sonoda)
vs.
Zetsubou-Sensei's Class (Kafuka Fuura, Chiri Kitsu, Abiru Kobushi, Kiri Komori (squee), Matoi Tsunetsuki, Nami Hito, Harumi Fujiyoshi, Taro Maria Sekiutsu, Meru Otonashi, Kaere/Kaede Kimura)
Yes, the sides seem a little lopsided, but keep in mind it's a bunch of duelists with swoards against a bunch of... well... Zetsubou Sensei's screwed up students. And while Mikage is there, Zetsubou-Sensei is not. He's too busy trying to kill himself. Again.
Offline
I want to go with the Black Rose duelists, but I don't think I have enough intel on the latter class to make a fair argument.
If I may offer a battle: Batman versus Akio?
Offline
Batman vs. Akio. On one side, the embittered and parentless shell of a human being. On the other side, Batman.
Let's go best of five! Who will win the deathmatch?
Better car. Akio has a red convertible that can drive itself. Batman's car can also drive itself, and is also a convertible in the sense that it can convert itself into a motorcycle. The Batmobile therefore has all the powers of both the Akio car and the Utena car, plus rocket launchers. Batman wins.
Better tragic backstory. Akio used to be the archetype of a savior, but fell and became a debauched villain because of the jealous love of the one person he could not save. One time Batman's parents died because of crime. Akio wins.
Better sidekick. Robin has a folding shield that can stop bullets and a particularly saucy uniform. Anthy is Anthy. Akio wins.
Better superpowers. Batman does not actually have any superpowers, but he is an expert martial artist and has several gadgets, including a Bat-Grappling Hook and Bat-Shark Repellent. (The latter is a bat-themed device for repelling sharks, not a device for repelling bat-sharks; this is Gotham Academy, not Avatar: The Last Airbender.) Akio is immortal and has a planetarium, but the planetarium's superpower status is not quite clear. Tough. Call it a draw, unless sex appeal is a superpower, in which case, hurr.
More likely to actually kill his opponent in a deathmatch. Um... well, there is that.
Akio wins.
