Not at all, it's always a good thing to hear! That's the whole point of this, I want to get better at drawing anime 'cause I've never really done it before and one of these days I want to make a SKU doujinshi. school-devil But before I get to that I need to improve a lot.

etc-love I'm glad you people like the comic! I'll try to steal more time to draw. Oh, and if anyone has any ideas for a comic strip, please let me know, I'd be interested!

Re: Utena fanart!

I don't know about what I'll do it, but I was thinking that maybe I'd do several short stories. Perhaps something based on the series,  especially the stuff we never see (ohh, have to check the Deleted scenes thread for ideas).

And this reminds me, does anyone know it's legal to sell doujinshi? I mean, I know that people who make them also sell them, but doujinshis are usually based on already existing work. So do those people have permission from the original creators and copyright holders so that they can make money off their work? emot-confused I'm always confused about copyright laws when it comes to fanart.
I'm only asking this 'cause if there're no restrictions like that then I'd like to get it printed, too.

I know that in Japan at least, they do make some sort of allowence for doujinshi to be sold, otherwise they wouldn't be able to hold such public doujin conventions the way they do over there, but as for anywhere else? I would have to leave that answer to someone who knows the rules for doujin in your country.

Re: Utena fanart!

In my country, words such as 'anime' and 'manga' are almost completely unknown to at least half of the populatation (about 75%, me thinks). emot-redface I suppose I won't get much help or info about it from around here.

Re: Utena fanart!

I would be very very surprised if you got in trouble either way for selling doujinshi. Even if it's not exactly legal, it's one of those things that dances on a legal edge and isn't worth taking to court, given that it's a vital part of the fanbase. I think, technically, fanfics are not 'legal'...didn't Anne Rice have a fit about them a few years back and effectively alienate a huge chunk of her fans?

Akio, you have nice turns of phrase, but your points aren't clear and you have no textual support. I can't give this a passing grade.

Yeah, she did. Most likely because her fanbase can probably write better than she can. emot-gonk

Free Utena sketches for request!

I need to prove a friend (Belial-sama) that I in fact CAN fill all ten slots with requests (I don't get many visitors on DA). So I figured, why not make others gain from it aswell? Just post in the journal, what you'd like. n_n

The same is true for fanfiction, I remember that the people who own Archie comics had ordered sites like fanfiction.net to take off all Archie fanfics because of the possibility that someone might write some naughty stories about them.

Re: Utena fanart!

While I can't hold a candle to Maarika's 4-panel strips, I humbly present more newbie fanart as I work on my craft...

This time, it's freehand CG, with color!

Presenting Wakaba:

http://ryoohki.home.att.net/misc/fanart/wakaba.jpg

I don't know why, but I just find something incredibly irresistible about Wakaba looking somewhat sad.  I'll have to try for genki next time.

Also, I'm still working on my eyes.  With the CG this time, I was able to try something a little different than pencil and paper.  I've also got a feeling that Wakaba will be the character I try to perfect first. emot-keke

I was practicing legs and expressions. The legs (and ass) turned out awful, but I thought the expression was cute.

Yep, I think it should be something like that.

But I'll still continue ignoring anime proportions. They seem to unnatural to draw emot-redface

Thanks for the feedback! emot-smile  Now I just have to see if I go in the pencil-and-paper or CG direction, or both.

I'll be sure to post the next drawings I do.  With these being some of my very first tries at fanart, the encouragement is reassuring that I must be doing something right. emot-dance

Re: Utena fanart!

Whee, time for more!  About 90 minutes of my free time, just for IRG!  Here's what I came up with in this, only my 3rd Wakaba ever, and 2nd CG ever... I'm starting to like this drawing stuff. emot-keke

Happy Wakaba, in Full Color and with Background!

http://ryoohki.home.att.net/misc/fanart/wakaba2.jpg

Next goal... figure out how to draw hands (note the convenient cheat used in the form of the "hands-behind-back" pose).  I wanted to do the "hand-behind-head" pose, but couldn't get the arm placement to proportion ratio right.

My reference image (DEAD LINK) from where else but EM's gallery.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT. OMG. That's one of the few problems I have with anime. Usually the anatomy gets a little . . . wonky. O.o If you want to see some really funny proportions look at RG Veda, back when CLAMP was just starting out. It's really funny. emot-biggrin

That Juri is beautifully colored. emot-biggrin I love her hair.
