I actually saw the movie first before I saw Akio in the series, but after I had seen the series Akio I never even thought he had anything in common with that guy in the film. They seemed like a two different people.

Not at all, it's always a good thing to hear! That's the whole point of this, I want to get better at drawing anime 'cause I've never really done it before and one of these days I want to make a SKU doujinshi. But before I get to that I need to improve a lot.

I'm glad you people like the comic! I'll try to steal more time to draw. Oh, and if anyone has any ideas for a comic strip, please let me know, I'd be interested!

And this reminds me, does anyone know it's legal to sell doujinshi? I mean, I know that people who make them also sell them, but doujinshis are usually based on already existing work. So do those people have permission from the original creators and copyright holders so that they can make money off their work? I'm always confused about copyright laws when it comes to fanart.

I know that in Japan at least, they do make some sort of allowence for doujinshi to be sold, otherwise they wouldn't be able to hold such public doujin conventions the way they do over there, but as for anywhere else? I would have to leave that answer to someone who knows the rules for doujin in your country.

I would be very very surprised if you got in trouble either way for selling doujinshi. Even if it's not exactly legal, it's one of those things that dances on a legal edge and isn't worth taking to court, given that it's a vital part of the fanbase. I think, technically, fanfics are not 'legal'...didn't Anne Rice have a fit about them a few years back and effectively alienate a huge chunk of her fans?

Yeah, she did. Most likely because her fanbase can probably write better than she can.

Very nice indeed, her facial expression has a mix of sultry with a touch of an oncoming cold.

i had a conversation with a friend of mine about the dynamics of drawing Shojo. my example happned to be about Utena. i did a small sketch to show the ratio of body to legs....

Thanks for the feedback!   Now I just have to see if I go in the pencil-and-paper or CG direction, or both.

I'll be sure to post the next drawings I do.  With these being some of my very first tries at fanart, the encouragement is reassuring that I must be doing something right.

Whee, time for more!  About 90 minutes of my free time, just for IRG!  Here's what I came up with in this, only my 3rd Wakaba ever, and 2nd CG ever... I'm starting to like this drawing stuff.

Next goal... figure out how to draw hands (note the convenient cheat used in the form of the "hands-behind-back" pose).  I wanted to do the "hand-behind-head" pose, but couldn't get the arm placement to proportion ratio right.

the thing is that mostly that is how i have adapted to the anime style..i draw girls with long legs (and guys too) i would start posting some of my art to talk about but...this is about Utena art...

man...every thread is gonna need a general thread too!
