This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
The blu-ray back covers are awesome~~

Those covers. Do want.
(Though I still don't actually have a bluray.)

The new art is... I am stunned. I was expecting a little redo but not complete stuff like this.
And the fact it's Chiho Saito's art... Is this the first she's done of Shiori? o O

I'm completely blown away by the cover art for the blu-ray boxes (especially the backsides of them, OH GOD, STRAIGHT INTO MY HEART...), but am I the one who's a bit... underwhelmed by Saito's new artwork?
I mean of course it's lovely that we're getting new art from the series' creators, but Saito's art style looks like it's taken a real nosedive since she drew Utena. Like, in this picture, both their bodies and faces look pretty stiff and awkward, not to mention that's probably the most out of character pose I've ever seen Anthy make. (And let's not even get started on how whitewashed she looks in all the pictures.)
Well, despite that, I'm still looking forward to seeing all the pictures in high resolution, especially the ones with Shiori and Nanami in them.

Never considered Saito's style appealing, found it too ostentatious even for a shoujo artist. I was a little disappointed that the new drawings weren't done by Shinya Hasegawa. If they were then I would consider getting the bluray even though I had just purchased the remastered DVDs.

I just don't have the money, to me buying the ost box set (who was conveniently rereleased at the same time) was already a splurge, But I just cannot afford japaneseblu ray prices <.< They are really beautiful though.

Even if some characters look very stiff I can't help but drool over this new art! And those blu-ray covers!! Simply amazing!

Here's the comparison shots for the movie: http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.p … amp;page=2
Apparently, the movie BD has the CMP English subtitles in it.

So where is the hero that's gonna scan this new art for meeee
The art is gorgeous, but it makes me a little disappointed that they do this after Nozomi did such an amazing job with the DVDs. I am wondering if they'll bother with the Blu-rays. I'd certainly be in line to buy it!

It would be their first ever blu-ray release if they did. But what a way that would be to toss their hat into the HD ring! I'm ready to give them more money for Utena again yesterday.

Uhg I would be so happy if that happened. Though, Shawne Kleckner(the guy in charge of Nozomi) has said that he doesn't want to start putting out Blu-Rays any time soon. But that was before the Utena box set was released, so he might have changed his mind... I know a lot of people wanted Nadesico on Blu-ray because it got a new transfer but ended up disappointed it didn't get brought over here. Hopefully the ratio of DVDs/Blu-rays bought has increased
We could also birrage him with questions about it when he's on ANNCast and maybe that'll help the chances of it coming over here.

Somebody uploaded the movie in all of it's HD glory a day ago.
Also, apparently, the final disk has the original Utena Tenjou audition demo track by Tomoko Kawakami. http://www.fandompost.com/oldforums/sho … post167577
If those extras manage to show up on the internet, we NEED to get them translated.
EDIT: I just found this article of the Utena art event. http://getnews.jp/archives/310495

I'm glad this looks like a reasonably-sized turnout for a tasteful, quality anime.
Am looking forward to some Utena element/motifs in the upcoming Yuri Bear Storm series.

It looks like the manga is getting a re-release

Seems to be a reprint at most, sadly. The volumes pictured are the bunko editions, which simply condense the original manga releases into smaller, thicker volumes, and the SKU manga bunkos were first printed back in 2003.
One thing that's nifty about bunko editions, though, is that many of them include short guest essays in the back. All of the SKU bunkos have one each: the first one's by J. A. Seazer, the second's by Tomoko Kawakami, and the last one's by... someone else whose name I don't know how to romanise. (I'm pulling this info from the back of another Saito manga that I already own, so I can't even do so much as copy/paste the kanji.) In any case, it would be cool if someone were able to translate those mini-essays, because I'm a little curious about them.
... With all that aside, damn, there's a whole bunch of merchandise in that photo that I wish I could have.

Ughhh I wasn't going to buy the Blu Rays, I swear I wasn't. But it's all just too perfect. I even like Saito's new art, I'm not a big fan of her art, but dat colouring guys :I But why are they pushing it so hard now all of a sudden? Maybe because everything awesome and old is getting remade or sequels? I honestly think if Kawakami was still around they'd be making a sequel the way they're going speaking of, even without all the awesome sauce this blu ray is packing I'd buy it just to hear the original demo

The way they're going, they just might churn out some kinda SKU spinoff without Utena and Kozue.

All those rose signets in that one photo makes me very envious.

I hope this is like... A perma-thing and not just a one-time event for having all these on display.

Is it bad that even being a poor jobless trans girl who just turned 18, and I'm thinking of trying to buy these box sets? I think that Utena is worth $400-$500...

I caved and bought the sets. They're really nice. I've watched the first episode so far, and it's a big step up from TRSI's DVD release.
