Something very pale, that brings to mind art nouveau, like a antique beige or dusty pink or burnt orange.  For me, it would symbolize something old and once-sweet, which has now aged, or something that should be bright and joyful that is stagnant, reserved and dulled.  Something good that is seen (in this case, by me) and treated as horrible and is thusly both purposefully forgotten and secretly preserved.  Actually, go for that dusty pink.

While I agree with Riri that real brides aren't weak or negative, feel that in the context of SKU rosebrides do carry very painful, very stagnant connotations.  I can see myself as one, because I constantly feel trapped by my desire to aid others at the cost of my real feelings or for the sake of companionship, all the while secretly hating or hurting them back in my own ways, or trapped by the roles and expectations society has for me as a woman, that come from both my family and America's gender norms and ideals for success.  But I also feel driven to fight these same things and people...so I can see myself as a duelist as well.  Though because I am far from noble and often easily manipulated, I may be more suited for a role as a BlackRose Duelist...and characters in the show often played more than one part.

I don't say prince because I don't believe in them, though if I had it in me, I would aspire to be what Utena became, a Revolutionary.

9. Is there any situation in RGU that is similar to something you might have experienced?

Rage, feelings of anomie and incredible depression at the thought how ephemeral and thus pointless life and all its good things were.  Conflict between what I want and who I want to be, and hypocrisy over being something for arbitrary, impersonal reasons.  Figuring out my identity as a woman, as a person, and as both at the same time in the face of wanting to defy socially constructed gender roles whilst still possessing some stereotypically feminine traits and desires of my own, and fearing that these gender constructs were defining me and my actions either directly or indirectly, before realizing that gender and ideas of femininity are not simply just fluid, but that being either masculine, or feminine, in or outside of a traditional sense, has nothing to do with whether or not you are weak or strong, nice or mean, smart or ignorant, creative or dull, honest with yourself or insincere, and that these are the qualities that matter and are worth thinking about and figuring out, and that any one time I am more than the sum of all these parts, including gender.  Learning to save myself.

It was aired on TV in my country in around 2001, I watched episode 4 or 5 and I was immediately hooked on to it, mainly because I mistook it was produced by Clamp. Later, I found out my mistake but the story had already pulled me in.

2. Which character would you have sex with and why?

Miss Juri, or Ruka will suffice. I believe Juri would be a great partner in bed when you can break her shell, and I feel it would be a great honor to be loved by Ruka.

There are so many. Take Nanami's cowbell as an example, there are dozens of customers acting exactly like that. They buy the stuff just for the name, and later they regret it because it was useless to them.

When I was a freshman in college, which was -- wow, a long time ago... -- a high school friend recommended it to me and sent me ultra-low-quality rips over AIM one episode at a time.  I opened episode 1 having basically no idea what it was; I'd only ever seen two anime before, Boogiepop Phantom and Excel Saga, so I didn't really know what "shoujo" meant.  I was just going on my friend's word.  Glad I did!

Haha, we had a thread about this an eternity ago!  Utena was and remains my top choice, but only in the context of a relationship that she's comfortable in and whose boundaries she understands.  (And me too, for that matter!)  And, uh... assuming she's no longer fourteen.

Used to be Utena/Wakaba, and I stand by that pairing as a load of awesome, but I think these days I'd pick Wakaba/Saionji.  Post-series Saionji might even be ready for Wakaba, and you know Wakaba hasn't stopped being ready for him.

I'd buy the remastered Black Rose Saga DVD where the tenderness that might be is already nicely captured on celluloid.

GTFO.  If I'm not allowed, try to bring it down from the inside.  I think there's a plotbunny in there somewhere, maybe starring Ruka or even Utena, where they try to systematically dismantle all the illusion.  The symbolism is a little off, since the great thing about SKU is how you ultimately have to cut through illusions yourself, but I imagine characters who weren't ready to hear the truth would simply not listen.

Another topic we've had threads about -- at least for characters, though not yet for pairings!  I still like Vertical Horizon's "Everything You Want" for late-series Utena and her relationship with Dios.  For Wakaba/Saionji -- and for Wakaba in general -- within the context of the series, I don't think there's any beating the pathos of Neil Halstead's "Hi-lo and Inbetween," which I hope you'll forgive me for quoting in part:

There are no self-declared princes.  "Prince," in the good sense, is like "poet" or "master;" it's a title that you have to be given by someone else in order for it to mean something.  I don't care about very much with enough passion to be a duelist, but I see the world too vibrantly to be a rose bride.  If I had to pick among the three, I'd pick duelist, but I'm really more like a Tatsuya -- sort of an authentic but awkward asshole who's training not to be so much of an asshole, and whose destiny might be significant but doesn't really lie down royal roads.

9. Is there any situation in RGU that is similar to something you might have experienced?

The great resonant image of the movie: the Utena-car struggling to move forward against conveyor belts bearing it into the past.  I don't think I'm as strong as Utena and Anthy, but I don't think escaping from Ohtori is something you really do in half an hour, either, so maybe I can win by taking my strength where I can find it.

Not as such, no.  No waffles served to Saionji by any IHOP or other restaurant will make him smile, because he's either fault-finding or trying to figure out why he should pay for something he could have made in the waffle iron he keeps in his kendo locker.  It would take waffles made with love, by someone that Saionji cares for too, to make Saionji smile.  But in that case, why not skip the waffles and go straight to cuddlings?

It was recommended to me by a friend of mine in New York in 2006. I, too, remembered seeing clips of Utena in the AMV Hell movies, so after she told me about it I decided to check it out. The rest is history.

"I'll go like Utena went to the revolution duel! for friendship's sake!" and.. I got the same exact result that Utena got   (last part of episode 38 ) ... I even did the "ask a relative to save her " thing >_>;; ...

1. Why did you start reading/watching Revolutionary Girl Utena?

Many years ago, when I was just a young girl in love with Sailor Moon, I heard that Ikuhara (who had directed Sailor Moon R, arguably one of the best installments) had another project in which he had more control. According to several descriptions, the series was comparable to SM, but it was significantly darker. I didn't look much further into it than some videos and reviews and such,  but then I stumbled upon the first two seasons at shop that is unfortunately closed now. The first arc was interesting, but I wasn't quite convinced that it was as "deep and symbolic" as I'd heard. Then I watched the Black Rose Saga-- and to quote Clarice, I never looked book.

2. Which character would you have sex with and why?

I am apprehensive about saying Shiori, because I feel like she could really swing in either direction-- being dominant or submissive-- so I'm not exactly sure how to approach that. I'd really like to sit in a bathtub with her back against my chest as I rub her shoulders. Can-- can we substitute that for sex?

Although I pick fun, seeing Juri and Shiori enter a healthy, supportive, stable friendship that may slowly break down the relationship barriers is a secret desire of mine. I just don't want them to rush or force it, because it could shatter more quickly than almost any other relationship. First and foremost, I just want them to be friends again, and I want that mutual adoration to develop in a warm and loving environment. Since no part of that statement applies to them for the greater portion of the series, I'm not sure I can call it my favorite in canon.

I'm a big fan of the potential dynamic between Kozue and Shiori. I was also swayed by the short scene between Kozue and Nanami. If I think about it, I ship Kozue with everyone.

The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails is my go-to Shiori song. I cannot hear it without thinking of her, and when I think of her, I often hear it. However, a good portion of it refers more to my perception of her than the common perception of her, so this is pretty biased. I suppose, if you think about it, it could be considered Juri/Shiori song in certain parts. It's mainly a Dollface/Shiori song, though.

Ahahahaha, as Satyr pointed out-- gotta match the hair! In that case, mine would be black, which hopefully makes me an awesome Black Rose Duelist.

In reference to the above answer, I think I would be a Black Rose Duelist for reasons that don't concern my hair. (Although that may be a contributing factor.) I feel that the BRDuelists have the passion of normal duelists, and like them, they fight for selfish reasons. They're often portrayed as the dark, evil duelists, but from a strict standpoint, they're no worse off than pretty much everyone but Utena (and even Utena falls into this at times.) They're not trying to help Anthy or save the world, they're looking for power/peace of mind/truth/sustenance/eternity-- things to make their world and their lives better. I'm not pointing fingers or calling them bad people, I'm simply stating that the "good guys" even admit that they're fighting to gain something for themselves, and revolutionizing the world just means fixing it to their liking. The BRDuelists were a little more misguided, in that they didn't consciously have the confidence to harness that power, to stand up with a sword and declare that they were going to take action. Somewhere inside they wanted it, somewhere inside they had that power, but they had to be coached there. Ultimately, no matter what role you're playing in Ohtori, someone else is pulling your strings; I think the real difference between the Student Council and their less-colorful counterparts is what mask they're putting up. Obviously the Council members all have masks of their own, but they are still very different from the masks of the BRD. Were I a student at Ohtori, I think I'd put up the type of facade that makes me seem harmless, downplaying my troubles and weaknesses while still attempting to appear unburdened by this life. A nice elevator ride and a room full of caskets should break it.

9. Is there any situation in RGU that is similar to something you might have experienced?

No particular scene comes to mind, but I think many of the overall themes are applicable to maturity in general. Through all the fairytales and mindfucks, I'll always view SKU as a coming-of-age story told in an unconventional way.

Is... is Saionji capable of smiling? Do his facial muscles even recognize that particular movement? I think anything longer than a fleeting grin would cause a severe cramp.
