This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I have an idea for a fantastic music video using Adolescence Apocalypse, the music would be the ending theme from the Fountain.
I spent two hours mulling over the possibilities for greatness in this music video.
I don't care if I make it, I just want to see it done. The music has no lyrics, but who needs em'?
Who here has heard or seen the fountain?

I have no idea what it is that you speak of. Enlighten me?

The fountain movie came out Nov. 3rd, and had mixed reviews. I loved it, one of the best movies in 2006.
Brad pitt was going to be in it, but he cut out on the movie at the beginning of filming.
Hugh Jackman came in picked up the pieces, and it wasn't a bad movie for a close scrap.
The ending music for the film featured Chronos Quartet and mogwai in this close-to-orgasmic
combination of symphony, tribal drums and choirs.
If I had a clip or something of the music you could imagine what an freakin' awesome SKU vid this could be.

I wasn't able to find the song to post, but here's the Kronos quartet myspace with the song.
It's the song titled "Death is the road to awe". Click and have a listen.

Wouldn't that be a tantric match made in heaven, for a music vid?
Offline
Hell yes. It does suit the movie more, too... I'd use quieter moments at the beginning. By the way, Persephone, have you checked your pm's?

not yet *checking*

Have you thought of a theme for this projected music video? I've always wanted to make one, but alas, my computer is far too old and slow... If yours is fast enough, there were some good posts on the subject a while back. Could dig them up again.

Well as far as video editing is concerned, I only have the Window video editing. I'm pretty sure that's just fine though.
I really need to get the movie though, four years of seeing it and yet no buying of it. *cries* WHY MEE!?
Offline
Well, I'm supposed to be asleep right now, or else I'd go ahead and grab all of those old posts. As for the movie, have an Amazon account? If not, I'm sure someone can help you out with a few other links. It can be surprisingly cheap.

Oh I have one, but I'm a student, and the stereotypical student is broke. The only thing I have feasted my eyes on these past few months is ramen.

I know, I'm sort of a student myself, although I'm taking a break for the moment. Well, I wouldn't lose hope just yet-- there's always birthday and Christmas money. In the meantime, perhaps another forum member would be willing to collaborate with you.
Me, though, I'm hitting the sack for now-- have fun on the forum, dear.

Nice! I think you have great potential for this music vid! YAY PROJECT!

Why don't you outline exactly what you want to do and see if anyone is interested in helping? I'm sure you could find clips on youtube that would help you make decisions.

Well the sequence of the song starts out slow and piano-like, the idea was to show scenes of Ohtori architecture and school itself.
When the symphony crescendos in and the drums and tribal strings are heard, I was thinking of moving the story into the broken
parts of Anthy and Dios'/Akio relationship. OH GOD SO MUCH
I can pause the track and type the scenes I want shown in the specific time areas.
I'll have to write up a list of times and scenes (don't worry I have photographic memory).
YEAH!

Right now i´m listening to the song. sounds slow, epic... but it feels like a love flavored tune, it shares feeling of frustration and willpower, a desire of light and freedom like walking in a dark underpath. I can see the frustration parts with anthy on them, and the freedom parts with utena, with the strong prescence of every obstacle in the slower parts like a reminder "better stay in this wolrd and be the princesses of it".
Ok, you got me I´m gonna make a vid with "adolescence apocalypse", and i´ll try to make it gripping, I´m gonna grab de audience by the balls. I´ll grab them and squeeze they won´t be able to sit down for a year

I love your enthusiasm!
I can upload the song, I have the disc! YAY

I already have the song in a 320kb/s quality thanks.
Since you´re the one that wishes to have this video done, why don´t you write the "screenplay" after that I can make the vid and give it my personal touch to make it even more enjoyable.

Fair enough.
Now throughout the song itself there are two pauses.
The first one features a soft playing bass in the background, the second pause there is nothing playing.
These are your indications of the nearing of the climax in the song.
In the first progression of the song (2:00 min in length) while showing the layout of Ohtori, reveal opacit scenes of the supporting characters.
At precisely 2:23 minutes on the song, I'd like the movie to show Anthy, revealing her heart (hole) to Utena.
More precisely the shadow of Anthy. Before this specific scene, make the 0:23 seconds progression consistent with shots of the same scene building up to that.
After that shot and the buildup (you decide on included scenes, I'm just gonna give you the skeleton and anything extra you need) at exactly five minutes,
the bells in the song chine and if you could make an opacity layer with the shot of the bells in the beginning for the duration of their existence.
In the first pause, after the bass finishes playing (precisely at 6:36 minutes), I'd specifically like shots of the raining rose petals from the garden in the background.
In the foreground (opacity at about 50%-60%), throughout the time of the second installment in the song, I'd like you to show action sequences, simultaneously
with the drumbeats that start up precisely at 6:46 minutes. Your scenes for the drumbeats remain opacit and each shot should only last for the duration of each drumbeat.
Or to make things a bit easier, just take screen shots of the guiding images in the movie and make them the drums.
Remember: These scenes all lead up to the climax. I want the video to be about the progression of Anthy and Utena's relationship.
The second pause ends at 7:36 minutes and durates for six seconds. During that pause I'd like you to have the kissing scene between Utena and Anthy
during the duel with Saounji, make the kiss last six seconds. Then cut to the scene of Anthy transforming into the rose bride and Utena taking out the sword.
Every shot must be on beat, feel free to cut where you must, just make it clean and smooth. Trust me, it will have a greater impact.
At 8:01 minutes make sure the scene of the giant castle on wheels, disintegrating, is shown.
I'd like for the ending Anthy and Utena scenes to chosen by you, just don't use any previous scenes.
