This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Just in case you did not know what Nanami was referring to when she suggested that End of the World might be a "nice Daddy Long-Legs for all we know", it was probably this movie:

Oh wow. I now have visions of Akio dancing his way through his role like Fred Astaire.
At least he isn't doing the robot.

Actually I think she was refering the book... there was an anime, by the way, made after the book. I remember watching it as a kid.

I'm pretty sure Naoko Takeuchi also had a manga, which used the same term (and probably references one of the things you guys have mentioned).
I've been wondering where that originally came from, since I've encountered it several times in anime/manga.

It's relatively famous classical children Brittish literature, really : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daddy-Long … 28novel%29
I read it when i was a kid, too.

That's what Nanami reminded me of. xD

The book Daddy Long-Legs by Jean Webster is available on Project Gutenberg here: http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext94/dlleg10.txt
I also highly recommend a sequel-like spin-offy book by the same author called Dear Enemy, also available at Project Gutenberg: http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext95/drnmy10.txt
... though the book is much more charming with the original illustrations, so if you can find a cheap used paperback, thumbsup.

I love Fred Astaire.
I do not love Akio.
Fred Astaire? Akio? ohhhh why.
but interesting point, thanks

I thought she was referring to the breed of spider, in a way... But that's just because I'm retarded.

Actually, that's funny. Daddy long-legs spiders are one of the few I can stand to look at.
And (I have no idea if this is true), people around here always say that they are highly poisonous, but their mouths are too small to bite a human.
(This being the version we have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvestman, I think. And Wikipedia mentions that myth, saying it's untrue. Darn; I found that absolutely hilarious applied to Akio.)
