This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I saw Olivia Wilde on the televised red carpet and thought, hmmm, she could play Juri perhaps...

When you can only think of Utena whenever the word prince or such related words are mentioned, you know you've watched the show too much.

Hm....
Swords, roses, fairy tales, and castles.
Oh, and the colours pink and red.

EVERYTHING. Seriously. Roses, of course, certain colours (read: every colour ever used for an Utena character's hair, as well as any shade of red), princes, castles, the word 'revolution', colleges (the separate buildings + me always listening to some variation on 'Gakuen no Scarlet' at least once whenever I'm on campus anywhere), fire, anyone wearing a jacket and shorts, red cars, lockets, symbolism of any kind (and therefore analysis as well), my own hair (it's perfectly series-Touga-length), swords, kendo, any simple tunes played on a piano,' _____ Memorial Hall', anyone mentioning miracles or friendship, curry . . . everything, basically. Not always, but often.

Whenever I go down in an elevator, I hum the "eeehhh" portion of Mikage's elevator song to myself. I never mean to, it just sort of happens. XD Sometimes I even hum it outloud. Also, when I'm getting dressed in costume for a convention, I sing Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku. It doesn't matter that I'm not dressing up as a character from Utena, it always pops into my head!
The song Umbrella by Rihanna also makes me think of Utena, when she says "When the sun shines, we'll shine together."

I watched this documentary about the Medici family and all I could think about when they showed Lorenzo The Magnificent was that he must've been Akio in a past life. The guy was a patron of the arts, a playboy, and got into a lot of fights with rival families. You love to hate him. That is so Akio right there.

When I saw that my new Philosophy professor had a huge forelock all I could think was that he looked like a blonde Ruka. Seriously, their hairstyle is exactly alike.

The album "Pretty. Odd." by Panic at the Disco. So sweet and lush, yet somewhat melancholy, it gets me in an SKU mood.

Nearly every shojo and shonen anime makes me think about RGU. The boytoys in reverse harems remind me of Princes real and otherwise, and the obligatory damsel in distress in nearly every shonen action anime ever reminds me of how shallow and unrealistic they are compared to Anthy.

Also, the Finnish band called Nightwish is the only music I've ever heard that's similar to JA Seazer's style. They both have rock symphonies/operas, echoing male/female choruses, and all of their lyrics are peppered with symbolism and obscure references. The main difference between the two is that Nightwish uses more violin sounds, female solos, and men shouting out lyrics in the usual rock-band way. But it's easy to attach lyrics from Nightwish to different RGU characters.

Ouran Host Club reminds me of Utena, must be all the roses.

I have two movie posters on my wall that I bought at a convention once, so everytime I go into my room I'm reminded of it, lol.
also, I know this is gonna sound kinda sick, but when Michael Jackson died a few weeks ago and they were spamming pictures of him everywhere, the pics of him in his military jackets made me think of the ones in Utena.

These two things I came across today, one being from www.malesubmissionart.com, and one being from one of my old Heavy Metal magazines.
Here's the first:
Second from the Heavy Metal magazine (sorry, I'm a horrible amateur at scanning ><):

Unconditional love and unrequited love.

Roses, for one. Certain songs make me think of Utena, along with the colors pink and purple. Not to mention fairy tales.

Disney Princesses... I'm not even lying...
This little girl (who will be dubbed my little sister) has a princess themed room. The first thing I thought of when I saw the big wall sticker of Cinderella's Castle was "I wonder if anyone would mind if I turned this upside down?"
Then, to top it off, each med. size sticker of the princesses are holding roses... Secretly I wonder whose Rose Brides they are... and also what their duels would be called. I'm afraid Snow White would be the perpetual Rose Bride... something about her communing with animals...
...of course, thinking about it now, I kind of feel sad for them. None of them ever being able to become princes or bring a revolution... are they the chicks within the eggs too?

wink: Unconditional love and unrequited love.
Same.
Anything I watch or any experience I have that involves the pain of love or the miraculous way love can (but seldom does) overcome...
I think of Utena. And dwell on lessons from Utena.
Also religion makes me think of SKU.
Also when I look at my rose/sword tattoos that predate Utena, I think of Utena. So I think of it a lot cos my body is like, right there. God, I'm addicted to SKU.

Offputting shy people.... there's a girl in one of my classes who is always incredibly quiet and sweet, but there's something odd about her I can't put my finger on. This is in addition to the fact that I have heard a lot of odd rumors about her and how passive aggressive she is. So I can't help but think of Anthy every time I talk to her...
Also manet paintings, roses (), and certain piano songs.
