This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
So, last month four boys from the age of 13 to 18 committed suicide due to homophobia and bullying at school. That's four suicides in one month related to gay hate. Today is what people are calling "Spirit Day", where supporters all over the globe are wearing purple to acknowledge the loss of these boys and to combat taunting and anti-gay sentiment in schools.

Suicide should never be the only relief for somebody when the teasing and mocking at school becomes too much. It is not ok to make being gay a joke, something to be ashamed of, or a reason to feel unwanted and unworthy around others.
So, if you're able, put on a purple sweater or stick a purple ribbon on your chest(I have both!) and show your support.

Absolutely decked out, in fact.

Purple polo-shirt, purple ring. I was kind of disappointed how few people I saw on campus wearing purple, but there were some. I almost forgot about it, myself, actually.

Wow, I didn't know about this. I'll have to change into something purple before the day is over.

I am! Discrimination and bullying are terrible in all their forms. I wear purple not only for these kids, but for the bullied kid I once was.
And in keeping with the purple theme, I made Okinawan sweet potato and haupia pie, which I shared with my classmates.

Totally would, but I don't even own any purple up here. I have like four shirts and three pairs of pants, and till a week ago I had no winter coat. In Canada. ...

I dont own any purple clothing but my favorite jacket has purple in it. So whenever I left the house I wore it.

I didn't know about this until too late. And, I don't think I own anything purple anymore. I need to rectify that--I used to wear quite a bit of light purple.

I know that our campus had an impressive turn out in purple. We had a LBGT booth set up for our resource centre to hand out ribbons, and many, many people came up to us already wearing purple and fully aware of the cause. It was surprisingly awesome.

My brother's girlfriend had said something about wearing purple to Wal-Mart yesterday for 'support.' I guess that's what she was referring to--and now I know a little more about her. I'm not the only social liberal in the family anymore! I hope they stick together.

Purple shirt- the only one I owned and it was big on me, but hey, support! Also a skirt with some purple in it.
I think the turnout at school was really good, if you count all the shirts that weren't exactly purple, but purple hues.
Disappointingly very few guys decided to pick up the trend, except for the ones that belonged to a certain fraternity.

Little late jumping in here-- even though I spent the day at home, I did sit around in a purple dress. It's a matter of principle! I am very happy to report that Tumblr, which usually sports a dark blue background, turned purple in remembrance. Although they were late to the party, DeviantArt also displayed a purple search bar. For once, I am proud of the internet.
