Neither do I. Still, what was needed to be done has finally been done. I'm so proud of our troops. Now, perhaps this horrible war can finally come to an end.

I don't really celebrate death.  Nor do I take pride in the killing of a person -even more so considering what our country has done in the past in the name of national security.  I'm not sad that he's gone, and I hope, like chrisb said, that it brings those families some kind of closure, and I really, really hope it means an end to this war we've been prolonging and the shutdown of Guantanamo Bay, among other things, but we spent how much time, money, privacy rights and human life- we, this big, powerful, supposedly amazing nation- trying to kill a single individual.  And then we did, and now we all get to be so happy over it, and proud of it, because who cares if our government was nearly brought to shutdown over the budget crisis, or that women's reproductive rights are being stripped away, or that corporations and government institutions and politicians still continue to side-step important minority protection issues or outright defy them, so that we still live in a country where a transgendered woman can be beaten to the point of seizure just for using a public bathroom, and a crowd of people, save one elderly lady, step in to help her.  No.  Our government killed a guy.  That's what our country is good at.  Killing.  /wallofpessimisticemoshit

It's disgusting but I've seen some of that too. How can people be so selfish? Would they have preferred another 100,000+ innocent people die before a Republican president comes in who will MAYBE achieve the same results? Can't speak for all liberals but if Osama had died under Bush's watch I would've felt the same way I do right now.

I wonder if this is ironically bad news for the Afghan people. I don't really know anything about the US public mood regarding Afghanistan, but I can imagine once the celebrations are over, you'd get an air of "We've got our man, the troops can come home now". I'd hate to see a rushed departure that collapses Afghanistan, purely out of a feeling of "mission accomplished". On the other hand, it feels a little inevitable that Afghanistan would fragment anyway because of it's social structure.

I don't quite get what the big deal was. People keep getting excited like the world peace was declared or something. It was just one obsolete old guy who can fulfill his last remaining task just as well from beyond the grave, namely encouraging the Muslim extremists to continue fighting. This really didn't change anything for the better except maybe Barack Obama's reputation. Yeah, glad that that particular loose end was finally tied up, but at this point all its worth is a pat in the back.

According to one of the million unconfirmed rumours flying around at the moment that seems to have a little more credence behind it than most Osama was actually shot by one of his own bodyguards. If that's true, the old bastard still got the last laugh. It would have been more of a victory to take him alive. He got special treatment to the very end, not the fate of the common criminal he deserved.

I'm not too surprised that we suddenly have an increase in hate crimes toward people who are Muslim or appear to be Muslim.  There are still a lot of nasty and horrible things that go on in the US.

I guess the latest thing to happen with this is that there are already conspiracy theorists showing up (aka Fox News) who are demanding to see pictures of the body and footage from when bin Laden died. Of course, even if pictures were released, they'd say stuff like , "Oh see that blemish and shadow there, that means it was photo-shopped."

Not to mention, there's the people who think that the bin Laden story is a distraction from the thing with Obama releasing that special birth certificate. Didn't we use to have a time with conspiracy theorists were crazy people to be ignored? But I guess it's okay to treat these claims as fact since they are from right-wing conspiracy nut-jobs and not left-wing conspiracy nut-jobs.

I was being a realist; one old terrorist whose main job wa to provide inspiration for others and can do that just as well dead doesn't do much in the greater scheme of things and isn't worth all the celebration it got, but I wasn't complaining about the operation itself - they sent people and not rockets, so they were intending to at least try capture, which is commendable. As for Pakistan, they had a deal with the US for a good while now under which the Americans could come in for bin Laden if they found him, while Pakistan gets to save face by publically condemning the strike. A messy situation all around, but a lot less dubious than most of the foreign incursions under the name of War on Terror.

Most conspiracy theories are worthless rubbish. WTC 7, however, seems to be the smoking gun that shows that the official story is missing something vital.
The building was not hit by a plane, yet is collapsed completely in less than ten seconds.
NYPD officers who were there have told the reporters that they heard explosions from the WTC 7 building. One of them added: "I think I know an explosion when I hear it."
Professor Shyam Sunder who was the WTC Lead Investigator for NIST has admitted that they had "trouble getting a handle on building number 7".
When a building falls over, it does not turn into a pile of dust unless it's professionally deconstructed. The videos also show a very "smooth" collapse.

I don't know what happened. The numerous theories I have heard sound mostly stupid. But something is wrong here.

Moreover, the media is keeping this topic surprisingly quiet in the USA. According to a new poll (published on 8 June 2011) one in three New Yorkers is unaware of Building 7's collapse and 86 percent were unable to name the building to the poll makers. (Source)
