Alfie is just PERFECT for either Akio or Touga when coupled with scenes showing their playboy sides and their down, melancholic sides. (And if only fools are kind, Alfie, then I guess, it is wise to be cruel ~)

Strawberry fields by the Beattles for Dios/Akio. (Nothing is real And nothing to get hung about . . .)

A Song for You is perfect for Mikage/Tokiko/Mamiya (I love you in a place where there's no space or time ~)

Silent all These Years for either Anthy or Dios (I've been here silent all these years . . .)

The Freshman for melancholic Saionji/Wakaba (I won't be held responsible, She fell in love in the first place For the life of me I cannot remember What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise ~)

There are a lot of Alanis Morrissette suggestions, because for some reason, practically every Alanis song works for Utena. A lot of them are ones I noticed myself. I don't know if its because Alanis speaks to the female experience beyond the usual OMG WHY DOESN'T THIS BOY LIKE ME. For whatever reason, most of her catalog can be set to Utena really easy.

Though I am surprised that we've got Alanis fans and I haven't seen anyone mention "Precious Illusions." That song is Utena's permanent THEME SONG.

It goes back and forth from starting to fall for the same old prince and princess song and dance before realizing, no, screw that, I've gotta get away from this. Even has a mention of a ring. I mean, HELL.

Also, "Kill the Lights" by the Birthday Massacre is all about fairytales, and could have use a lot of footage with the Shadow Play Girls. You could find a fitting bit of footage for basically ever line.

ALSO, someone somewhere needs to make an Utena AMV with "Bad Things" by Jace Everrett. For those HBO fans, that's the theme to True Blood. The song is so full of sinister intent and sexiness that I really think SKU is one of the only series with the footage to pull off. On, Mary Jane is just such an obvious Anthy/Utena song (you're the last great innocent, and that's why I love you ~)

Uninvited might work from a Juri to Shiori and/or Ruka perspective too (i don't think you're unworthy i need a moment to deliberate ~).

I definitely agree on Mary Jane. It's basically Anthy's song to Utena near the end of the series: Get the fuck out before it's too late, you damn beautiful fool. "Uninvited" could work, but it would be kind of difficult footage-fitting wise.

"Baba" could work for Akio, as well as "Right Through You"....except for the very last two lines, since obviously the song is about a shitstain record producer.

OH SHIT AND HOW DID I NOT MENTION "VERSIONS OF VIOLENCE?" Seriously, that song works for every relationship in the series ever. Intersperse scenes of people physically attacking each other and with people mindfucking each other. This and "Precious Illusions" are my top Alanis songs for an AMV.

Actually, now that I think about it, you could probably rattle off every Riot Grrl and Riot Grrl-adjacent band/musician and find a ton of songs to use for Utena.
