This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

Honestly, I ed when I first saw this, because whenever I see Elrond in the movies I think of The Matrix.
It just doesn't move any cord... maybe I have something wrong on me because slash just don't appeal me...

Slash doesn't have to appeal to everyone. I mean, I don't like furry, but some people do. That's their business, not mine. We just like to express what appeals to us...often. With pretty much everything. But I like yuri, too, so it all evens out in the end. At least, that's what I tell myself.

I like yaoi, shounen-ai, and shoujo-ai - I don't think I can quite claim to enjoy yuri, though. I will admit to rabidly seeking out too much yaoi, although I would like to say that I am not so far gone as to be absolutely for every single possible slash pairing ever thought of - some just simply do not work, or just do not appeal to me. I remember being disgusted with the over-presence of TaichixYamato (Taito) stuff back when I was a young Digimon fan, in addition to that fact that it seemed throughout all the different incarnations of Digimon that people would just haphazardly pair off the girls with each other just so they could pair the guys together (MimixSora? Excuse me?)
Actually, now that I think of it, there were a lot of Digimon pairings which just bothered me.
Elrond's headpiece always bothered me in the movies because it reminded me of Ayeka's headpiece in the Tenchi Muyo series.

When LOTR was still in theatres, my friend Becky and I saw each one at least 6 times, and each time Elrond would speak we'd add Mr. Anderson to the end of his sentences. It annoyed the crap out of people around us, but it was funny to us.

I suppose it could be worse. Have you ever seen Priscilla, Queen of the Desert?

That is why I said that Hugo should be cast as Juri in the live-action Utena movie.

Digimon complaints!
You know, I can't believe I forgot about this. I thought the first season of Digimon was some good dumb fun and I liked it, but I was bothered by all of those fan-pairings too... I mean, come on. In the first season those kids are all about twelve, except for the two that were eight - and those two got paired off too. That's what really bugged me. Season 2 would have made things better when most of the original cast was in high school, except the show wasn't about the old cast, but about a new crop of middle-schoolers who also got paired off... I was kind of glad when Season 3 came around and had completely different characters. Of course, that was when I got sick of the show, too...

But season 3 was the greatest! D:

Was it? I'll take your word for that since I only saw a few episodes. I did like the first episode though. It was very cute.

Throw away your Rose Seal, Mr. Anderson. You make me sick, Mr. Anderson. You were tricked into seeking "nobility," Mr. Anderson. This sentimental mush for your prince is idiotic, Mr. Anderson. The Rose Seal isn't meant for a girl like you, Mr. Anderson.

I think a good story can make almost any relationship work, if the author is willing to put in the work (sometimes quite a lot) to make it plausible. It is very rarely the case they are, alas.
I'm glad someone said this Unlikely pairings usually generate junk, but if you're creative and ambitious you can think of them as a challenge. Gio and Yasha, for example, took on the challenge of figuring out what circumstances would get each of Utena's men to spank someone here: http://www.ohtori.nu/analysis/06_spanki … reword.htm. I can't look at some of the "unworkable" pairings in this thread without a glance down at my WWAD bracelet: "If Akio wanted to make these people have sex, how would he do it?" Would he play on the power dynamic between the partners? (Beryl/Mamoru works if Beryl thinks she can get Mamoru to betray Usagi, and Mamoru thinks he can use this belief to control her.) Would he manipulate the characters' emotions? (Rei works with a lot of characters if they can be convinced they're doing her a favor.) Would he call in third parties? (Shiori will be all over Chu Chu the second she believes Juri is into him.)
And if all else fails, there is always the mind control ray.

Alas, I can no longer watch the ending of the Return of the King with a straight face, since the first person Aragorn stops to, when he's walking towards Arwen is Legolas. Just look how they look each other.

Actually, most of the kids in season one were ten or eleven - which just makes it worse. I was ok with stuff where it was just harmless and kind of fluffy, 'cause, well, kids in puberty are subject to crushes, but most of the stuff was just so serious, and just so... overly mature. Eleven year olds hardcore making out is just a little too much for me, thanks.
I myself liked the third season quite a bit - I liked that we got a lead male who wasn't so headstrong and annoying, and that the archetypes got shaken up a bit. Taichi had never been a favorite of mine in season one, and Daisuke in season two just drove me up a wall.
I stopped watching after a few episodes into season 4 - that thing was an awful, stinking pile of crap beyond belief.
Anyway, to get back the topic of the thread, most Digimon fanpairings = bad.

Also, SKU has a lot of incest, so I'm a little surprised to see someone so annoyed with....
OK i'll level with you there, SKU is my only, and I mean ONLY exception!
although, I generally don't prefer incest pairings, but I have a few exceptions. One of my favourite pairings happens to be incest and yaoi (Ed/Al from FMA), and the other is yuri (Utena/Anthy). ..yeah, shoot me. But it's kind of funny, because the majority of the other pairings I like are het. *shrugs*
on the first one, that's, IMO, an example of incest done wrong
IMO I prefer them het. the'yre too good to be yaoied up (I'm a shamelessly biased Ed/Winry fan)
Pairings I tend to not like are ones with two characters who barely know each other. Or pairing the two hottest male characters together who rival each other, simply because they're hot. (Now, I do like me some Touga/Saionji, but that's kind of different)
on the last one: YEAH BABY!

Conner....i think i love you!
someone else who thinks Sesshomaru X Rin is wrong!!! YESSSSSSS!!!!
and I luv you too. Seriously, there are quite a few of us in this vast video wasteland, and we must keep our voices STRONG by any means necessary!
what, cause people draw her older that makes it right? I DON'T THINK SOOOO!!
Older or not, it's still WRONG! besides Sesshoumaru dosen't seem like the type to settle down with a woman and have the 2.5 kids. He's a DEMON for goshsakes! IMO Kagura (Inuyasha) would be the only one for him but only remotely. His cold personality would'nt fit in any relationship. Back to my summary on the subject of Sess/Rin, I paraphrase the old show "2 Stupid Dogs", when the guy says......
Cute............But it's WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quoted for truth.
As long as people don't bash other people's opinions, they should be free to go around. I think I worded that right.
For me, as far as Yaoi is concerned, I prefer to see pairings where the more masculine one would show "feminine" traits. Like Utena, except she is a girl, but it made her human.
I didn't really see Elrond to be fan-pair candidate when I watched the movie, though.
In my opinion, I think the worst Yaoi fan-pair in LOTR is old Bilbo and Gandalf... One time, I saw a fanfic of that, and um...
It's just me since I have this image of old people being those who are way past the romantic period of their lives and shouldn't need to go back to it.
Limitless imaginations, Limitless possibilities...

Oh no, I don't think Elrond is a good candidate at all. I just happened to come across that picture and found it amusing.
My favorite LOTR Yaoi pairing is Merry and Pippin. I'm sorry, I think they're cute. I'm also one of those few-and-far-between fans of Faramir and Legolas, simply because Legolas needs a man. Aragorn works, too, for obvious reasons.
Oh god, Bilbo?! Well, once I saw Saruman and Gandalf... It was pretty disturbing.

Merry/Pippin, you say? That was like my favorite movie when I was seven! That lady with the magic umbrella, and that big long word that you say when you don't know what to say... good times

For some reason, their lembas bread looks like cookies...
In other case, Legolas/Faramir... that's rather new to me. But I don't remember anywhere in the novel where they have interaction that leads up to this fan-pairngs.

About 50% of fan pairings never even have interaction. C'mon, Saionji and Juri? How many times do we see them together? Only times we do are student council meetings. Or Kozue and Shiori; never even met. But myself, Razara, and probably a few others enjoy this pairing.
Oh, in the spirit of incest, I certainly don't mind some Faramir and Boromir action. Now that I think about it...did we ever really see them together? And they're related to boot. Wowee. The world of fangirling is strange indeed.
Why let a little thing like reality get in the way of man sex?
