This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Hi! I'm really late to the party, I know.
I'm watching the series right now and I like it. I'm not done with it yet, so I probably won't post much for now. It won't be long until it's over.
Came for the yuri, stayed for the wtf
I'm not really good at introductions, so you won't have a proper one from me.
Anyway, see you around~

Hello! I'm new here, so I don't really know what to say. I live in the USA, mid-twenties, introduced to SKU by my lovely boyfriend. Favorite character is Utena, even with that being so cliche to like the main character, I really related with her. I like economics, video games, painting, deep conversation about anything and everything, and Excel. Yes, Excel spreadsheets. Don't really know what else to say, so, hi.

Hello! Glad to be posting in a thread with 10 years of history xD
I ended up here while documenting myself for an Utena RPG campaign I'm writing and ended up registering. It seems like a fun enough place, and though I'm not sure if I'll be speaking up much, I'll definitely be reading around.
Thank you for having me!

You're welcome! And there's been a few efforts to combine Utena and RPG-ing on here before. Good luck, and I can't wait to see what you come up with! What do you have planned so far?

A full retelling of the anime series, with the player character(s) stuck in the middle of the action. They will be stundents at Ohtori and will most likely get involved in the duels. Most prominent character's stories and motivations have been subtly shifted or played with, most often to give some open ways of interaction, other times to explore deeper or unexplored aspects of their personalities. I've written some new characters (very few) to make the world at Ohtori a bit bigger and also provide some uncertainty to the playing field. I'll most likely use Chigusa too and the game's unnamed protagonist (whose name will most likely be a pun to some obscure SKU fact or inspiration source). The Duels, specially the Black Rose saga, have multiple outcomes, even those the character's won't partake in, based on their interactions with the cast.
I've even planned for some big (as in, VERY BIG) surprises nearing the end if things get weird enough. Specially around Utena herself.
It might be a story I play with a single person though, I'm not sure if this particular setting can really manage a couple of players without taking out some canon characters, or the Duel game would become pretty meaningless. All in all, I'm planning for there only being 3 new duelists in the first arc (inc. the protagonist). I will focus on the character exploration and interaction more than I will on the actual combat. Since duels in SKU are more will-and-heart based than actual fencing prowess-based, knowing the opposition and oneself might become more important, specially when symbolism and weird stuff like multiple Brides and soul swords kick in.

Hi all. My interests lie in Asian history and culture, though not in any way an expert I do know some things. I have other interests but let's stop there.
Anyway I'm pretty familiar to the forum format so I don't think I'll need much help, although I do have one question... Why is "Miki Molestor" a valid title? It strikes me as a bit...blarggh...considering he's canonically in seventh grade. It's just very distatseful - and not in the fun way.

While it wigs me out a little, too, I suppose it's important to remember that "molest" has more innocent definitions, too.
As far as why... I assume there's an in-joke I'm missing. Most of the titles are in-jokes of one sort or another.

Mayhaps. Anyway, thanks for the reassurance.

Hi Alice! I am a fan of Asian culture as well. I hope to spend some time in Japan in the coming years. Welcome!

Hello everyone
I don't really know where to start, or even where to end for that matter so I'm just going to wing it.
I'm a huge fan of SKU, I probably do not compare to most of you on here, but I'll try and stand my ground a little.
The reason I got drawn here (other than the Chu Chu hiding half the content sometimes (for good reasons)), is because I've got nobody to share my theories with, or even discuss it with. I'm slowly making progress by showing it to a friend, but alas, I don't think we'll ever discuss SKU in depth like I wish we could.
I'm finishing my studies in Biotechnologies in college and heading to university for another 5 years of studying... So, I guess I'm also looking for a little community/family.
I'm fairly new to watching animes too, so I am open to suggestions.
Anyways, I don't want to make this too long, but myeah. If anyone's got any questions, go ahead. Otherwise I am just glad to have found a group of nerds.

Hello all!
I discovered RGU sometime in the middle of last year, and I've been hooked ever since. Currently in the midst of re-watch #3.
I'm not sure I'll post much, but being able to lurk and read the links will be nice! On the other hand, perhaps my wife would appreciate it if I talked someone else's ear off once in a while about crazy RGU theories, so who knows?

Hello guys
I don't know how can I introduce myself, but. . . I'm a huge fan of SKU since 2008 and I want to talk about that incredible show with other fans.
I knew the Ohtori.nu for a long time, but I just realized that forum is a great place to talk about SKU then I registered!
So, i hope we can be good friends and we talk a lot about SKU, 'cause this show never will get old.
That's all, thanks

Omg I just realized I never did this so...
Hi, i'm itavin, and I've been an utena fan since like 2015 and I have been in love ever since. I ended up here because I looked up the utena scripts from empty movement and found out this forum. Since the amount of people that I know that have watched utena is zero, I said, maybe I should join this awesome forum so I can talk about it! And so I did...

Holy crap... how am I just now discovering this place??? I'm 20 years old and have been a fan of anime for the past 5. I watched Utena for the first time in 2012 and plan to watch it again soon, as I'm flirting with the idea of writing my Asian art seminar paper on some aspect of the anime (I'm assuming something will come to me once I rewatch it, but ideas anyone???). In any case, while Utena wasn't one of the most enjoyable anime I've ever watched, I can honestly say it has been the most impactful and influential, and I hope to have the opportunity to do legitimate academic research on it someday.
So anyway, hey everyone! Hope to get to know some of you & learn a lot while I'm here

I just realized I haven't introduced myself, after having an account for almost seven months... Oops...
As my name implies I like Sailor Moon an Utena (my fav characters being Usagi and Anthy). I also love a bunch of other anime and animated shows, FLCL and The Last Airbender to name some. Utena was a very impacting show on me, the character interactions and philosophies having a grip on my heart. I could fangirl and analyze and criticize it for years, but that's what this forum's for, right?
I'm glad to join this forum too after months of sneaking around the pages about the visual novel, and I hope I can make some friends. Yeahh I know it sounds cheesy but I'm bein' honest. Anyway, this was a long winded post, so peace.

Hiya, I'm HeadCannon.
I've been a fan of Utena for about two years now. From the moment I started watching, I was hooked. The drama, the philosophy, the overall weirdness and subtle/In your face nature of the show enthralled me. I've fallen in love with almost all the characters, cried with them, laughed with them, empathized with them. Though it's a bit of a cliche thing to say, Utena really did change my life. My favorite characters would have to be Utena<3, followed by Mikage, and as a close third, Shiori.
I actually had an account on the forum a year or so ago, but I've changed a lot since then.
As for me personally, I'm currently a College student living in North Carolina. I'm planning on majoring in Social Work and probably minoring in Psychology. I'm a big fan of Philosophy, Theology and Ethics. I like being challenged mentally and getting new ways to look at things. I have a soft spot for cute things. Some of my favorite franchises are Utena, Serial Experiments Lain, and Ghost In The Shell. I'm a huge fan of Mamoru Oshii. I've recently gotten into Steven Universe, and it's pretty good.
I'm a shy, submissive, nervous and introverted, not the type to start conversations. But, I'm loving, passionate about the stuff I love, and would do anything for the people I care about. I like to think of myself as a nice person, and I try hard to live up to that. I like being needed and helping people(Hence the Social Work). I tend to be negative about myself and have a lot of self-loathing. I have bouts of depression somewhat often; so, sorry if i come of as weird or anything, it's nothing personal.
Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you all better and having a lot discussions about Utena!
(Also, what do you guys think of my avatar? Pretty 'Great' huh. I made it myself, if you couldn't tell:tongue:)

Hi guys, checking back in after.... I think forever. How's everything going? Any good discussions happening? Essays? Games?
...how long have I had a title, you guys? I don't remember it, but it gives me a happy glow

It's not quite a title, we just reworked the postcount titles, so you'll see different titles as you continue to post. We thought it was more interesting. Sorry to mislead you.
But glad to have you back! There's some good analysis going on in the threads pesimistamente posted-- highly recommend to check those out!
