This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Dios being your favorite character certainly catches my attention. What do you like about him?

My name is Paris, I'm 24 and currently reside within Glasgow City, Scotland.
I've been a fan of 'Revolutionary Girl Utena' for as long as I can remember...
I never always understood it but I felt that as I grew, the series and its meaning changed with me.
It's a beautiful, complex story and I've yet to grow tired of it. I only wish that I knew more fans!
My favourite character is Utena which is probably not a shock to anyone here.
The reason being that I can relate a lot to her in many personal [and obvious] ways.
...Putting aside the fact that I wanted to be a Prince when I was 4 and onwards.
I'm beyond happy to be here and I look forward to becoming a familiar face among the community!
I.. I'm not very good with introductions but with time, I hope you can get to know me a little better.
Thank you for having me!

I feel super stalkerish as i just responded to your cosplay post but!!! welcome! I'm 26 myself and started on Utena at 12 or so (maybe younger. . .?). I totally can relate to what you mean by it growing up with you.
I left the show (and even the forum for a bit!) for a few years but recently came back to it and awakened the passionate fire of symbolism within me. Hopefully we can convince you to stick around and dig into some of the meat-y topics and discussions about the show!
I'm also going to shamelessly plug Vrai Kaiser's 77,157 word write up on Utena. Episode by Episode. I did a rewatch earlier this year, then discovered this ~book~ by Vrai, and holy crap. I rewatched it an additional time so i could walk through it with her write up.
ANYWAY sorry -- yes welcome. I agree the show is so fun to grow up with. Being 12 and watching it is 100% different than being 26 and watching it. Wow do those scenes change. And, Wow, am I so aware of things i wasnt before. Such a great show.
Anyway Paris, thanks for swinging by! Hope you have a great time here... and please come dig into discussions in the SKU area!

Hello everyone :3
I'm Tenshi Androgynous, pleased to meet you all!
I'm 21 and I'm a relatively new fan of SKU. My main geek profession is cosplaying :3
I've visited this forum many times already to search for some Utena quotes, and now I've come to you seeking for some fandom-related help.
I've only registered now since I was always scared of forums for some reason... this is the first forum I've ever been a part of, so please tell me if I do anything wrong :')
If anyone could point me to a place where I could ask for help about ideas for editing my Utena cosplay photos and get opinions on some I already made, I'd be grateful ^-^
Thank you !! ~

Ooh, always cool to see a familiar name from Anitwitter. Hi Grizzly! You're going to enjoy it here, I'm sure.

Hello there, I'm Jax.
I don't have much Utena knowledge besides knowing of the Sega Saturn game for years which ended up leading me to watch the movie on Netflix years later (English version is gone, don't know if the JP version ended staying up either). I almost thought Utena was a SEGA IP for a bit since their name is one of the first things to come up in the movie, but despite not owning it they apparently had their hand in most of it anyway.
Last week I started watching the anime for research purposes. I've only watched the first episode so far and enjoyed it very much.
What brought me here was me trying to find out SEGA's involvement with the Utena series which lead me to a TVTropes page which then talked about a fan translation of the Saturn game which then led me here. I've actually been to this website several times over the years, (never the forums though) but I've only visited maybe less than ten times. It's always nice to see when one of the older websites on the internet is still around.
Nice to meet you all.

It's nice to meet you too, Jax! Let us know how you like the series-- I always love to hear people's first impressions!

Bit late to post here since I've been around for a few days, but I'm Zander, and it's nice to meet everyone!
I've only just recently gotten into Utena (recent as in a few months ago), so I haven't had time to finish the series yet, but I love it, and I've read the manga!
A few of my interests are RPGs, visual novels, anime, Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Corpse Party,xx Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, art stuff, Undertale, and Touhou!

Hey folks! New to the forums, but a long-time fan of Utena (since the Before Time of fansubs on VHS).
But yeah, so I'm Rikoshi, mid-30s in the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm also a professional Japanese translator, so I'm happy to help out with things here and there; since Japanese translation is my full-time day job already, I might not be able to commit myself to major, long-term fan projects, but I'm always happy to help chime in on small things (and who knows, maybe someday I will have more time to devote to things, but with the Saturn game having just been translated I'm not sure what else there even is!).
I've been a huge fan of this series ever since I first stumbled across it nearly two decades ago now, and I just recently finished a rewatch of the series (showing it to my housemate who'd never seen it). My appreciation of the show has only expanded watching it again as a (nominal) adult compared to when I was in college, and I'm really eager to get in on some fun discussion about this landmark series!

Welcome Rikoshi, Zander, and Jax!!
Excited to have you on board and talking Utena.
My favorite moment is that first rewatch after i became an adult. The whole show is different now then what it was as a kid. Its impressive that something as old as it is aged so well and transforms into a new show on every watch.
I'm a personal student of Japanese, Rikoshi, and will be visiting there for a month for business here in a few days. I would love to hear more about your job and all that!
Zander, would love to hear about your experience with Utena as you walk through it. Please post your reactions -- we all get a HUGE kick out of that. Its fascinating to see where people are guided as they watch. Please Please Please Please with a cherry ontop. Also, beware, you might find yourself reading the 77k word essay that vraikaiser.com wrote up about Utena. A novel in its own right, but fascinating (if you ask me!)
Jax. Amazing that you only knew of the game. How did you discover that? What had you stumble into Utena in this way? Cant wait to hear about your Utena experience as well! Its going to be fun. You said "research purposes" what did you mean? Please elaborate!
Maybe we should spin upa rewatch party and join these guys in a simulwatch. I can donate IRC or TeamSpeak services if we go down that road
Anyway, cya!

Oh, hey, I hope you have a good trip! A month abroad for business can be rough, so here's hoping the Japanese experience is fun enough to take the edge off!
And I'd be happy to get into some details about my job! Is there a good place for me to talk about that, other than dumping a wall of text here?

I'd say create a new topic here in general dissection and go crazy!
I'll be there for business for 1 week and for fun for 3 weeks. don't feel too bad

I don't really remember actually. I've been using the internet since 1998 so it was probably from then to like 2001 where I must have found out about it somewhere. I was surprised when I found out about the movie at least.

Thanks. I'm also going to read vraikaiser's write-ups as I go along.

Nothing too spectacular I'm afraid. It's just that I'm one of the (many) contributors of the SEGA Retro wiki, and since we cover everything SEGA I wanted to find out SEGA's involvement with Utena to see if I needed to make pages for the anime and movie. I still need more info in that department.

(( Hey all,
Um... well... okay so... yeah, me.
I... really get anxious doing stuff like this; however, I also told myself that I'm going to go and meet more people. So... while, yes, this isn't meeting physical people... it still makes me a nervous wreck actually because I tend to struggle with my sense of self. So... even going so far as to meet people by typing sets off the same sense of agoraphobia and anxiety. Um... anyway.
Okay... so where to start with this without sounding... out-of-place.
RGU wasn't my first anime. And, I guess before I get any further, I know it's SKU... but... I've kinda called it RGU for years and years. So... I hope it doesn't ruffle any feathers if I keep calling it that. To me, it's no different than me calling "Macross" "Robotech". I grew up watching "Robotech", and not even knowing that wasn't the original title.
Um... anyway, my first anime was Devil Hunter Yohko and End of Summer... both on VHS. I ended up upgrading DHY to DVD, and lost my End of Summer tape. Utena came a little bit after that... I think it would have been the same time I was picking up Escaflowne and MKR.
Let's see... other stuff I like to do... I do enjoy console-RPGs (haven't done pen-and-paper in years), and painting my warhammer miniatures very average-ly. I spend a lot of time playing odd games on my PSVita and PS3, like Corpse Party, Child of Light, Witch and the Hundred Knight, Rule of Rose, and Valkyrie Profile. Oh, that's the best cRPG game ever. If you've never tried Valkyrie Profile, it's freaking awesome. I had it for my PS1, and it still amazes me. About the only thing I find close to Valkyrie Profile would be System Shock 2... because space-horror is huge fun to me. Anyway, being as I lived through the 80s and 90s, I also enjoy a good post-nuclear-apocalypse game, so Fallout is freaking awesome. Best part I remember was being weighed down with a ton of stuff worth even more bottle caps than I could count... if I could get back to town and sell it. Well... when you're weighed down, you crawl along, and can't fast move. And then I remembered I had the Scribe Veronica with me. And I thought to myself, "Oh, I can give her all the heavy stuff!". So... I open her inventory, and she literally says, "You're giving me all the heavy stuff, aren't you?" And... it was awkward. I... had to say "Yes".
I guess I do really enjoy the Disgaea series of games, since I started picking them up on the PS2. Weirdest moment of fun with them is as follows. For D-4, I was wandering in the random item dungeons, and I finally figured out what the purple-event thingies were for. Well, normally I don't think of elevation any, as my zippiest character, Sneakers, tends to have shoes on... and she's a Theif. So... she can jump really well. So, I also find out Sneakers can make a box as a special ability. And... I'm like... oh.. kay. Boxes, huh. Right. Anyway, I find a purple-event-thingy, and... Sneaks can't actually jump that high, and I'm like, "Dangit. How'm I going to get up there?" And then it hits me. Sneakers can make a box! So, I had her make a box, and she jumped up just fine.
Uh... yeah. It was funny to me. I'm... pretty sure it was lost in typing. Um... don't ask me about Marona and Ash and Sneakers and the box. Though... that was pretty awesome too.
So... yeah. I guess I got kinda side tracked. So... um... sorry. Mea culpa. Anyway, I've always enjoyed Utena, ever since I first watched it, and I really enjoy the fact I can re-re-re-watch it, and find something new each time... or a new way to interpret something that I thought I had "figured" out. I actually like that the story isn't cement. It's fluid.
So... I guess that'll do as an intro, before I do anything else. ))

Hi, I'll go by windowbird here. Nice to meet you
I watched SKU just around the time I was graduating high school and settling into university life far from home, tumultuous timez. This is probably the most brilliant show I've watched so far, it's a lot to top. It saved my life in many ways. For one, I lived in a tiny bubble of a place where people aren't the most open minded, and I had been struggling with my sexuality and dealing with abuse from some of my closest people, so the themes and message of Utena really hit home for me. Utena had jumpstarted a lot of how I think about the world now and I've grown to be stronger because of it.
My favourite characters are Shiori and Anthy because of how complex they are. I related a lot to their stories, but only mostly understood why after reading tons of people's essays and analyses (thank you for those!)

Hi everyone.
I tried signing up a few months back when I was in my home-country but apparently my location indicated that I was a spammer. Anyway I hope this forum isn't too dead and look forward to getting to know you guys and having some interesting discussions regarding the show

Hi BunB! Sorry about the spam filter; it's the only practical way we can keep IRG (relatively) free of ads, but once in a while it means we get a false positive, and that sucks. I'm glad you persevered! Welcome!

Hi, I'm pagetheplush. I'm a graphic design student who wanted to be able to talk with more people about Utena. I love drawing and I've recently gotten into writing. (After i finished sku i started filling my notebook with fanart doodles) This anime actually helped me feel more confident with myself and with things like my sexuality; it's affected me in a really positive way and i just love it overall. Ah I'm not very good with introductions but I'll probably loosen up pretty quickly :3

I go by Larii, I've been meaning to say hi on here for a few weeks now, so, helloo!!
I'm an animation student who fell very much in love with Utena a few years ago.
I'm so excited that some of you guys have finally translated the game! I'm still however trying to get it to work on my mac which seems bleak right now, so I might have to borrow someones PC...
I'm super new to the whole forum thing too, so be gentle please!
