Alirias is a common mispronunciation / perversion of my more common SN. The normal one means "a spirit that can think and interact with people / the world". I chose to use Alirias because it wouldn't show up if anyone related to me googled the other one, and therefore, I couldn't be traced to this site and my IFD conversations by my parents. Or at least, not without work.

I must say, I HATE the name Jason. It's not that I've known a Jason I didn't like...it's that people keep calling me Jason! Come on, retards, Jacob is an easy name, and a very common one! People do it when they first meet me, and also after knowing me for months. WTF! It makes me want to drive up to Edmonton and kiss somebody with a tire-iron!

On the other hand, I've always found Rachel a pretty name. Go figure.

Stormcrow, that is why I hate the name Katie. You know, when you introduce yourself and say "Hello, I'm Kate (KAY-TUH)", you'd think people would at least attempt to say the name the way you do. But no, it's always replied to with "Hello Katie (KAY-TEE)". Ugh. Don't you think Kate is a more common name* than Katie is anyway? However, I understand when I type the name Kate and people still misread it and say Katie.

*I mean Kate as in variations of other names. I'm the only person I know with the actual name Kate. It sucks. I prefer Katherine.

I've got admit, Paradox was originally a spur of the moment thing.  Way back when, as America was still in the early stages of recovering from the damage wrought by the great hurricane known only as "The 80s", back before the internet ruled all our lives, I was oh, 13 or so, and our family were just getting dial-up.  You remember, 28k modems, random disconnects, back when we thought waiting two minutes for a web page to load was the future, not nails-on-a-chalkboard painful.

Anyway, we're a signle-parent household, so my mother is signing up for internet service, and because she knows that I know more about the computer than she does, I've come along for the ride.  Keep in mind, at the time, most of what I knew about computers involving hooking up my Nintendo to the TV and playing Carmen Sandiego on the one at school (Admit it, those games rocked), but I was still a few steps ahead of her, as she was still in that phase where she wasn't sure whether the mail carrier had a separate time for picking up e-mail.

So when the guy looks at her and asks what our user name should be, she does exactly what you'd expect, she blinks at him blankly, then turns and looks at me as if I have any idea what to say.

'Paradox' is the first halfway cool thing that came to mind, so it's what came out.  Fortunately, both the internet and this particular ISP were still in their infancy, so we got the name, and I've been using it off and on ever since.  I just think it fits.

He started calling me Iris, and it kept... I use the name off line as well, mainly because very few can pronounce my real name correctly.  Especially while drunk.

Pandora- named after a character of mine, who is in turn named for the Greek mythological first woman with the box.

Joining the LotR-style screen-names group: I chose Asfalolh as my first nickname ever to join a LotR-related forum. It should have been 'Asfaloth' (Glorfindel's horse), but I made a typo (as usual, one could say ). I never tried to correct it, because there are other Asfaloths, but only one Asfalolh... and I got used to it

Oh, and sure, I don't mind it when some people correct it and call me Asfaloth. As a Tolkien fan, I take it as a compliment.

I use mazoboom for everything.  I invented it years ago, I don't remember when. The first time I ever had to choose a name, everything I wanted was used and I didn't want to put numbers after a name because I didn't like how it looked.  I got so frustrated I just typed in "qwertylolo" because I knew something so silly would work.

Later on, I wanted a name I actually liked.  Basically all my real names start with "Ma" so I wanted to keep that.  I happened to have a Spanish dictionary sitting nearby, so I started flipping through the M's.  I saw mazo, which means "mallet."  Not only did it start with "ma" but it had the underused "z" in it.  So I thought to myself, Hmm, mallets do what? They go boom! Got it!"  So I typed in mazoboom, and have used it for everything  ever since.

That's an interesting BG II name. I use Telthelias Nebiroth for male characters and Kensarine Shiketsu for female characters. Both names also appear in works that I have written that, sadly, have nothing at all in common with Utena.

For a long time now I've planned on naming my daughter, if I ever have one, Alexandra.  I love this name.  I first fell in love with it because of Legend of Mana.  The jewel hunter, Sandra, is actually the Jumi Alexandra, who is able through her alexandrite core (true alexandrite changes bluish green in daylight and purplish red in incandescent light) to switch between her female form and male form.  Her male form's name is Alex.  Alex.  Sandra.  Alexandra.  I think it's neat.  And alexandrite is my birthstone.
