Because he's tall, selfish, single-minded and a little insane. But he is weirdly alluring(to me) as well as all the girls in the show. Girls love jerks, right?

For being tall, nerdy, socially incompetent and a total jerk. Aw, he's so kwute.

I like a little crazy

For being mature, strong and capable... if a little scheming, womanising(though it's endearing to me) and a bit of a liar. Sometimes i like Godai more because he's cuter, skinnier (i like lean people) a bit unhappier and cynical, jerky, immature(hey, we're actually the same age if we consider vol 1) and perverted[although i think it's normal for his age and situation]. I actually hate the ending for what they did to mitaka - forced into a marriage with a dim, unawares fopsie when he spent years in honest, faithful love and courtship for kyoko. he was so unhappy near the end, in the very end he seemed content enough but I still felt his freedom was taken away and he never really lived the life he wanted to.

Finally Bartz Klauser - For being the best Final fantasy protagonist in the series to me. He has the good qualities of all the characters without being angsty, whiny or perverted. Also, he is most likely the kind of person I would end up with in real life.

To be fair just about all the women you see in photos now are all shopped.
