Maybe I should just make a torrent for them? Would that be useful?

The Gallery one needs to be changed out, too, we've moved files around since.

Akio, you have nice turns of phrase, but your points aren't clear and you have no textual support. I can't give this a passing grade.

It might be useful for people looking for it in the future, I could certainly seed. Would there be any way of also getting the "install stuff" that was up before as well? Or could someone help me? I've never played a Sega Saturn game, I'm so confused emot-frown I found a BIOS file and all, but then when I mount the game and start it in Yabause it just loads as a music player of sorts?? I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm so desperate to play this game emot-gonk

Oh well, so I wanted to play SKU game by myself and I would like to ask you about the translation. I mean, there was information that circa 60% of a script is translated. Is it possible to download what is available and insert it into game's folders and play? 0.o

Sadly, no, because apparently there's a bunch of programming that needs to be done for it. There have been a lot of efforts at translation over the years but no one has ever managed a finished product, although we've come very close.

At this point, it seems to be only a matter of waiting long enough. There are efforts being made on tumblr as well as here, and eventually something will pan out.

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

I haven't been able to do anything since September, but I will try to advance as much as I can in inserting remaining texts in the next couple of months, until September, using the document Ayu Ohseki sent me a while ago. Iirc with the texts in the documents and the texts that were already translated (from the Dellbun let's play threads and some additional texts he sent me), that should be almost 100%.

Also the text Ayu Ohseki translated covers parts already translated, so I will also have to compare and check differences, to use one or another in every case, and that also takes time. The most annoying part is test everything, as it requires so many plays with so many different branches, that the test part become quite a lot more annoying that inserting the texts in the ini file. So I may skip the test in some parts, anyway, the worst that can happen in the non-tested part is that the text may look odd, as in line breaks would happen at rare places, but it would still be readable and playable, and those things can always be taken care later.

Anyway, I saw that the translator links are dead, so I'm re-uploading those:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/xpfp1e

The translator includes the .ini file with 77% translation. Except for a minor correction I made today, they are in same state that I left it in September when I did this loooooong pause.

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

Endless, I don't have too much time, but I'd be happy to proofread the game's translation once you insert the text into the files. Since we have two translators, I'd like to make sure we consistently translated terms the same way; and since some of my translations from the playthrough threads were questionable, it would be good to check that there aren't any obvious mistakes.

Thanks for your hard work, as always!

Can I just say it's amazing how incredibly dedicated you all are and have been over the years? Because it is. Seriously, I'm in awe. etc-love
I'd always longed to play the game once I first learnt of its existence, and a few weeks back I bought myself a copy just because it felt good to own it, but I had no idea such an awesome translation project had been going on for so long!!

It's really quite inspiring how talented and devoted you Utena fans are. If I possessed any level of talent or skill then I would gladly lend a hand, but alas I do not...

This may not mean much coming from a newbie here but thank you soooooo much for all your hard work!! I really admire all of the time and effort you've put into this, and hope one day there'll be an amazing finished product to go with it!!

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

As for programming job, there isn't really much to do, the translator program is already able to handle the text and all image formats found in the game.

The only thing related I can think of would be figuring out a way of recompressing a Saturn video so that subtitles can be embedded on them. I remember I saw once a program like that, but it wasn't actually compressing the video, but just have it there uncompressed. This is not acceptable in this case, because uncompressed video takes so much space that the main video that would need subtitles is long enough to make the size of the iso go beyond the max CD size. Even if the emulator were able to support more than the real Saturn, the video may be still be too big or make the transfer rate too big (anyway all of these are conjetures, it would need some more deep research). Some info was in this very same thread, in this post by gpink: http://forums.ohtori.nu/viewtopic.php?p … 08#p231408

There is work for anyone that know how to edit images, though. The work mainly consist of removing japanese text and inserting english text.
Some examples of images that need editing:

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn33/endlessless/EVA32B_zps169hnror.png
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn33/endlessless/CHG_0002F050_zps6r1bovin.png
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn33/endlessless/SAVEP_00000E38_zpspfoeovkv.png

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn33/endlessless/EVD113_zpswyiv0pl8.png

If someone is up for that kind of work, I'll upload again the pack with all the images of the game in bmp format, although the translator program can also dump it from an iso if called from the command line like this "utena extract_all_images Utena_Sega1.iso somefolder".

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

Yeah I didn't have any luck on my end with the video files, either attempting to understand the compression or tracking down anyone in the community with the appropriate knowledge.
The video game will mostly likely play only the exact format of video and audio originally used. There is a small chance that the other Saturn format could work but I would not expect that.
There is software to decompress and recompress Saturn Cinepak (Sega FILM) video but the issue with this game was the combination of the audio and video. The audio was compressed in a different way from most other Saturn games and combining the audio and video was problematic.
Here's the article with the technical information.

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

As for the images that have text, I'll re-upload the stuff I did regarding it.
That way no one has to redo extra work or go sifting through the folders to find the relevant images.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/n886b1

Are there translations for these images?
Some of them are fairly obvious (Like the name tags) and some can be figured out by trial and error (The menu buttons) but a lot of them simply can't be figured out without the help of a translator.

EDIT:
Ya know, I originally didn't include the TECHOU folder because most people could already get to it easily and it took up more space. But I decided it'd be better to just go ahead and add it to the zip-file.

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

There aren't yet translations for most things, we'll need the translators for that.

Only texts known other than the trivial ones are these ones:
EVA32B ->
TO THE ONE ENGAGED:
I WILL BE WAITING IN THE DUELING AREA ON THE 25TH.

EVD113 -> YOU BECAME A BLACK ROSE DUELIST

EVD114 -> YOU SAW "THE ENDS OF THE WORLD"

Please switch discs. Press the CD Door Button to enter the Saturn Bios Screen. After you insert Disc 2, please close the CD Door on the case, and resume the game.

The first image is disc changing instructions. It could be changed to whatever is clearest, or instructions could even be added in case of people using emulators.

In translating it, I referenced the English translation of Panzer Dragoon Saga disc change screen. The Japanese text seems to refer to a "Multiplayer Screen," but my recollection is that it does indeed just return to the Saturn Bios Screen when you open the door. Is the Bios Screen called the "Multiplayer Screen" in Japanese?

Re: Someday My Revolution Will Come (Utena video game)

I finished adding all of the text from Ayu Ohseki documents to the .ini file, and the translation went up to 97%.
Link to new version of translator, with the  new .ini files: https://www.sendspace.com/file/i3ylrl

Code:

Estimated percentage of DAY_A0 translation is 100.000000%
Estimated percentage of DAY_A1 translation is 100.000000%
Estimated percentage of DAY_B0 translation is 100.000000%
Estimated percentage of DAY_B1 translation is 99.324324%
Estimated percentage of DAY_B2 translation is 99.287411%
Estimated percentage of DAY_C0 translation is 100.000000%
Estimated percentage of DAY_C1 translation is 98.637602%
Estimated percentage of DAY_C2 translation is 92.944785%
Estimated percentage of DAY_C3 translation is 100.000000%
Estimated percentage of DAY_D0 translation is 100.000000%
Estimated percentage of DAY_D1 translation is 100.000000%
Estimated percentage of DAY_D2 translation is 100.000000%
Estimated percentage of DAY_D3 translation is 95.061728%
Estimated percentage of DAY_D4 translation is 64.233577%
Estimated percentage of DAY_D5 translation is 83.152174%
Estimated percentage of DAY_D6 translation is 83.985765%
Estimated percentage of DAY_D7 translation is 100.000000%

Estimated total percentage of translation is 97.004933%

Basically, the missing things are Utena ending(D3-D6), some lines from the day 24 shopping if the player goes to same shop as previous day (C2), and a few minor things here and there.
Other changes:

- The .ini files have now information about who say which lines, which should make life of translators easier. They will appear in comments before the line(s) like this "; Actor: Character". It is meant to be read only, the translation processs will ignore it.
- The dump feature of the translator will also output the above.
- Included "translations" of the change disc images. These aren't really translations, I just replaced them with instruction for emulator users.
- When handling the images formats with palette, the translator will guess the transparent color (it will assume it is same as in the original file), unless it is told to not do so (by adding a "false" to the command line). This should help in the cases some image editors reorder the palette.
- The "completion" feature of the translator will now ignore the text that shouldn't be translated.

EDIT: I'll post the remaining untranslated things, for easier search in the file.

- DAY_B1: only VF39O001 and VF39O002 are missing. I don't think these texts appear at all under any combination, I think it is cut/forgotten content... but you never know.
- DAY_B2: VB27E002-4 are missing. (Dinner with Saijonji, if player saw the fight with Chigusa)
- DAY_C1: VW04C001, VW04C002, VW04C003, VW04C004, and VW04C005 (if Juri was the first victim and player goes to fencill hall)
- DAY_C2:
VC43E002, VC43E004, VC43E006, (if players went to magnolia the previous day too)
VC46E001, VC46E004-11, (if player went to the cake shop the previous day too)
VC46F001-5, VC46F007-8, (same as above)
VC47E001-2,  (if player went to the tea house the previous day too)
- DAY_D3:
VD32X003-6, (maybe if player is on the way to Utena ending, not sure)
VT06X012, (a single unstralated string if the player is on the way to Touga ending).
VU01X003, VU01X006-8,  (chuchu....)
VU02X001-3 (chuchu...)
- DAY_D4: well, a 35% of this section is missing a translation. But good news it is that it is a short section and has repetitive text, so it is not really that much. Most of the missing text is if the player is on the way to Utena ending.
- DAY_D5:
VD67E002, VD67E005, VD67E007-8, (probably if player is on the way to Utena ending, not sure)
VD68E001-4, (probably same as above)
VD69E003, VD69E005-11, (probably same as above)
VD71X001,
VU07X001-4, VU07X007-16,  (probably if player is on the way to Utena ending, not sure)
- DAY_D6:
VD75X005, (one of the possible lines in the generic goodbye to Touga)
VD77X002,  (one of the possible lines in the generic goodbye to Juri)
VD79X004, VD79X021, VD79X023, (some of the possibles lines in the generic goodbye to Utena, the later two refer to Chigusa).
VU08X001-36 (utena ending),
VU10X001-4
