Forum for Journals and clubs/cliques?

I've been thinking that something has been missing... and that something is clubs. Would the Admins consider a clubs/journals forum so they don't get buried? I think it'll be really fun to do something like that. Some of the funnest times I've had on a forum is with the clubs I've joined... I think EM is big enough to foster some clubs or cliques. I think it would be a good networking opportunity as well... just a thought.

Re: Forum for Journals and clubs/cliques?

I can't speak for Gio and Yasha on whether they'd like to sponsor this kind of thing, but the amount of interest there'd be in a forum for clubs might make a difference.  Does anyone else feel strongly that a separate subforum for clubs and journals and such is a fun idea?

Personally, I have mixed feelings.  I'm not sure I really see the appeal, and I'm a little afraid that founding a forum just for clubs would contribute to an aura of exclusivity and cliquishness that we've generally been pretty good at avoiding on IRG, but I'm just one guy.  How do y'all feel?

Re: Forum for Journals and clubs/cliques?

I just don't like the word 'clique' at all.  It brings to mind all the things that go on in high school with the stupid and elitist "We're better than you! No, we are!" social groups that spring up.

But groups of common interest outside of SKU?  No reason not to have those... mazoboom started the last.fm music-oriented subgroup of IRG.  We don't really need a space on IRG for it though, since it has its own shoutbox and messaging system.

I'm all for members founding subgroups, but they don't necessarily have to even involve IRG except for providing awareness for those who may be interested in joining.

That's my take on it, anwyay.

Re: Forum for Journals and clubs/cliques?

If it is decided to make one, I don't have a problem with it, but I don't think it's necessary. I don't think there's been enough group/club and journal-type threads to merit one. Even if they do get lost, we have a search function and the greenlight to necro with somewhat reckless abandon.

Re: Forum for Journals and clubs/cliques?

Hmm. If you mean like sig clubs, I see nothing wrong with it. That sort of thing was a great to do in the old SKU mailing lists and such. Things like 'The Shiori Support Squad' or 'Society for the Protection of Miki's Innocence.' (Yes that came from somewhere.) I've been considering posting the old SKUCode for shits and giggles, since that was also quite popular, but for an organized club, that sounds like it would be a bit largescale for the forum, when the exchange of interest is what a thread is all about. emot-smile

That's my .02 cents CDN.

Akio, you have nice turns of phrase, but your points aren't clear and you have no textual support. I can't give this a passing grade.

I giggled when you mentioned "Society for the Protection of Miki's Innocence"
If there ever is a mailing list for this forum, I'd have imagined it to be called "I'm in Ur Backseat, Impaled by Your Sword".
But as an amateur computer user, I know nothing of what it means to make a club from a forum.

I'm not overly thrilled by the idea to be honest. couldn't tell you why. Just...not for it.

Being a non-forum-experienced and non-internets-interaction-experienced person, I have no idea what these clubs are. Do they do anything? (Can you eat them? emot-confused )
