Re: Sharing articles

Here's an hour-long NPR report about the U.S.'s treatment of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay, including both an overview of how the justice system has been shorted and firsthand testimony about abuse of demonstrably innocent detainees.  But it's okay, because they're foreigners!  I can't believe we're supposed to be the good guys.  Surely we can fight a war on terror and simultaneously uphold the principles that make us different from the terrorists.

Probably not.  If we upheld the principles that make us different from terrorists...there'd be too few terrorists to make it a war...emot-frown

Re: Sharing articles

This isn't an article, exactly, but it goes pretty well here.

http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/04272007/watch.html

This is an interview Bill Moyers from PBS does with Jon Stewart. It's a video, but you can also read the full transcript. A lot of it centers around Stewart's ripping McCain a new asshole on TDS this week. While I haven't watched this video, I saw the episode and read the interview, and I know there are a lot of TDS/TCR fans on these here forums that might like this. Without fangirling too hard, I really admire Stewart. He's intelligent, and despite running a comedy show, has had a lot to say about the state of politics and the media in the US. Some people might remember him handing out Fuck You sandwiches on CNN's Crossfire, in an interview that got people fired. He got McCain on his show this week and asked (ON A COMEDY SHOW) harder questions than you see on most of the news network programs. Stewart swears and repeatedly reminds people it's a comedy show and shouldn't be where you get your news. That's true, but as someone that does keep track of the legitimate news sources, I must admit his comedy show is still more intelligent than 90% of the real news, and he's thrown some major curveballs in interviews when others are too busy sucking political dick to do the same.

In similar news, if anyone saw Colbert's speech at the White House Corespondent's Dinner last year, they won't be surprised that this year, they got some retarded ancient comedian doing fucking impressions of old presidents. emot-biggrin

I'm sorry to say it, but the enlightenment is over.  It ended around thirty years ago.  I don't know when or where it might happen again, but I think it'll be a while...emot-frown

Nothing ever fucking changes.  To me, this is no different than phrenology, or the original SAT.  Intelligence tests and measurements = bullshit, but intelligence predictors are even worse.

Re: Sharing articles

Ah, you found the problem there.  Reasonable people, you say...I suspect there are perhaps 100,000 reasonable people in the whole country, out of a population of 300,000,000.  sigh.  Remember that article about how tall people are smarter last year?emot-rolleyes

EDIT: The best part is that they have only 75 test subjects, but this still gets reported as significant in the national news.  I'd say that reporters should learn more statistics, but I know perfectly well that they don't care, it's all market driven.  I'm lucky they even mentioned the sample size.emot-rolleyes

Re: Sharing articles

Gay bomb.  I can scarcely believe it, but this is the US military we're talking about.  In the Reagan Age, large chunks of federal spending started disappearing down the black whole of defense contracts.  Most of these contracts never see the light of day, even though they account for the majority of defense spending.  This is why it's so important to have oversight, to keep us from having 7.5 million stolen from us to pay for that moronic bullshit.emot-mad
