This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

Cosplaying Utena

I'm surprised no one has made this so far... it's usually an essential and one of the reason this forum was opened if I remember right.

Dematrah wrote:

Mine's a tie between Anthy and Juri. It kinda goes back and forth for me.

My favorite part of Juri is her last duel with Utena, where Ruka was involved and she tore off her rose, the locket shattered, and it began raining. Such beautiful imagery, and I'm in love with that episode.

As of right now, my favorite is Anthy becaue of the best Anthy cosplay pics my sister was so wonderful to show me. (omg that girl is beautiful!!!)

Once again a stunning piece of work, I remember seeing Dalibun with a Mikage cosplay pic in his Avatar, though I could be wrong.

Re: Cosplaying Utena

Sweet christ these are good. emot-aaa

I've always been very pleased at the popularity of cosplaying that super-military uniform Utena wears in the Saito artbook. I loved that oufit, and it's been done very well by several people.

Also I've never been to a con, but I've heard uh, horror stories about what's done there that make me very suspicious of any male cosplaying Touga.

Akio, you have nice turns of phrase, but your points aren't clear and you have no textual support. I can't give this a passing grade.

To a T I believe? emot-keke I'm not quite sure; I never really got that expression.

But isn't Nanami only about thirteen to begin with or am I wrong?  I think she's perfect.

And I must say that that Anthy is amazing.  Wonderful costume and nice use of wig.  Especially over all posture I'd guess.  You're right; she's just good.

Now I'm impressed by Utena cosplay again!

According to this profile, Nanami is only in Grade 7 so that would guess that she is her about 12-13yo.

But not anymore. emot-gonk emot-gonk emot-gonk

As for horror stories, I didn't mean bad cosplay, I meant that apparently cosplaying certain characters puts a guy in a short track to getting laid. Sephiroth seems to be the popular one but I've heard of Touga cosplay being abused in this way.

Kinda disturbing since I've seen very little good Touga cosplay.

True! I swapped it out because I didn't think it made a good avatar. But here's the only Utena cosplay I've done (the rest is Sailor Moon musicals/Sailor Moon live action/Ranma):

http://aglick.web.wesleyan.edu/Dallbun/temp/cosplay_utena_mikage.jpg

Probably not my best cosplay ever, and not a great picture, either, but it's all good. I'm trying to model my home-made Rose Signet, which isn't quite shiny enough. I don't know who the Saionji next to me was, but she was part of a Utena Movie group that also had a TV series Nanami and Ruka (so they were only missing me!)

Hey, folks, why are you posting really bad crossplay that has nothing to do with Utena? After all, you could be posting bad crossplay that does! And, now, for your viewing pleasure, a picture of our beloved and illustrious director, Kunihiko Ikuhara.

http://aglick.web.wesleyan.edu/Dallbun/temp/SailorIkuhara.jpg

Q: When you dressed up as Sailor Scout what was the public's general reaction?

A: That wasn't me. That was Rei Hino. Actually, I had a stomachache and couldn't go that day. So, to substitute for me was my friend Rei Hino and Minako. They both have beautiful legs. A lot of guys took their photos. So I was a little jealous.

HOGAWD...you can NOT make a cosplay thread without throwing Man!Faye in, even if it IS about Utena.

Here's some more I found on an artist's journal. She took these at Anime Expo 06.
Here's the journal in question.

AHHH MAN FAYE MY EYES

Oh gods. A lot of these pictures are so pretty. T_T etc-love I wish I had enough meat on my bones and sewing skills to cosplay as Utena or Anthy. emot-frown Well, I guess Utena would be more likely to pass for a very thin small-breasted girl. But I need to learn how to sew. Or get money to buy a costume. The Utena costumes are so elaborate and beautiful. ;_; etc-love

*__* *dreamily stares at the cosplay pictures*

Here's a few pictures my sister found randomly. I have no idea who they are. XD I did see a really good Miki and princess!Utena at Mechacon.

I've seen at least three in the past several years at the Pacific Northwest anime cons (Sakura and Kumori). Two of them were Movie, though. The only really prolific characters are Utenas and Anthys, as far as I've been able to tell.
