This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

Hooray, my Movic order arrived today!  Ended up buying everything but the ring.

Re: New Utena stuff

Does anyone know what the signet is made from? I'm willing to drop that kind of money if it's worth it, but Movic's rings have been of notoriously poor quality in the past.

Re: New Utena stuff

@Kirin Lemon:  Is the item in the middle a booklet or a pencil case?

After finding the link below, which looks like a blog dedicated to the art exhibition event , I am thinking it's a booklet of the works on display for the exhibition that was in Tokyo?  I wish I could read Japanese...

http://utenagenga.exblog.jp/

Also, check out the picture frame with the roses - SUPER cute.  I haven't seen those for sale anywhere yet, but they are really cute.  And the mini prints!  *sigh  So much good Utena stuff right now!

Yep, it's an 80-page booklet, and the description says that it's full of production materials.  It's not in my hands yet, since I had a friend living in Japan order those for me in anticipation of my moving there in July.  I'll be able to offer more specific information as to what's inside at that time.

Hopefully I'll still be able to find the postcards, file folders, and photo frame when I get there.  And the bowling shirt and Chu-Chu shirt would be great, too, but the M-sizes are probably slightly too large for me.  Arrgh.

Re: New Utena stuff

I went to that exhibit. I posted a few pages of the book I bought here: http://penguindrum.livejournal.com/71458.html
Since that's a Penguindrum page, I posted only the Penguindrum parts of the book...Utena actually takes up a lot more of it (and has more color pages). I can post some photos if anyone needs/wants.

Does anyone have the original link from this thread that was for Utena merchandise in Japan? It doesn't seem to be working for me.

Re: New Utena stuff

Happy to. I also bought the plate, pencil bag, and Shadow Play Girls shirt at the event, if anyone needs pictures of them.
If someone knows how to actually order anything that was available through the event store, I would be thankful for the info. I instantly regretted not purchasing that black clearfile, and now I'm thinking I could use the tea set as well...

Thanks for the pics! It was especially interesting to see blonde anime style Utena in this one http://imageshack.us/a/img689/4686/016nuu.jpg and their alternate clothes colors.

Re: New Utena stuff

Thank you!! etc-love
That music box looks great. I kind of wish I could hear it. Also, it would have been so fantastic if it played Hikari Sasu Niwa, am I right? Although (what I'm assuming to be) a music box version of Rinbu Revolution is still something I want in my life. I'm about to move, so here's hoping everything will still be for sale in a couple weeks! Because is it just me, or is the Japanese market extremely fickle when it comes to anime/pop culture merchandise? Some series seem to stay in the stores forever and some are gone in a week...even when they're popular.

Edit: I realized that a few of those pictures were pretty blurry/low quality. I'm still using a phone camera, but thought I'd retake a couple of them before packing up my books:

Re: New Utena stuff

I'm using Google Translate, but looking at Movic's site, are they putting out a black rose duelist ring as well now?  (if so, YAY!)

I'm only intermediate-level Japanese skill, but I would translate it as:
'You have no choice but to revolutionize the world'
~stuff that I'm not comfortable enough translating properly~
The Black Rose Seal, sales release

On the left side it mentions price, date, size and materials (relatively the same as the other ring). Noticeable difference is that is says "Chain included."

Their other products seem pretty detailed, so this might be worth getting.

What the hell is this? Exactly?

Because if there's a chance at new artwork...

Well let's say the gallery is never finished.

Huh. It looks to be from C84, a hugeass doujin convention. So I guess it's actually hardcore porn.

Now I want it more. etc-saiowank

Re: New Utena stuff

Here's a better description: http://animestyle.jp/news/2013/07/30/5615/

Run it through Google Translate, it appears to be a "genga" book:

"Two books set the original aggregation, cell, and art set was recorded numerous illustrations of copyright as "Illustration Side" and "Animation Side""

""Illustration Side" (about 180 pieces) recorded almost all of the existing illustrations of "Utena". Was composed of material of anime-related original which selected carefully, cell, and art set the "Animation Side". Illustration a powerful large size of A4 so deformation (length 297 × 225 mm side) can enjoy. "Illustration Side" is 176 pages each, "Animation Side" a large volume of 264 pages and the number of pages!"

"As an event marketing benefits, booklet: it also provides "The hard core of UTENA Supplement Limited edition". It is one book that was collected could not be also included in the two volumes, such as the material of "story, which is revolution Revolutionary Girl Utena someday" rough illustration, game, the Melia of rare materials."

So, no porn. emot-gonk

Re: New Utena stuff

SO.

There's a VERY good chance I'm about to be making a purchase on the Movic website through Celga as an intermediary. (Let's say it's contingent on winning a bid on Yasha's Christmas present.)

I don't know what Celga will charge to place an order, or if they'll charge more for a larger order (probably). But I'm just throwing a feeler out for whether people would want to bundle with me, or no. The big savings will be on Celga's ordering cost, shipping in Japan, and shipping from Japan overseas. The downside is I'm in Canada, so it will cost me more to send you your stuff once I get it. Basically, who would be in on this and willing to pony up before purchase? (Not just that I don't trust you--Celga demands a 50% deposit now.) I am not promising anything right now, as I might not even order, and if I do it might not be to anyone's advantage for me to do it myself. But if there's sufficient demand and sufficient cash thrown on it, I'll be more than happy to do the legwork getting some of this wicked swag on our side of the pond.

Yasha and I were discussing. There are a few items on Yahoo! Japan and such that are new to me. Potentially new artwork, and also a book of music score for the television show. (IBB is hooking us up with scans of the music notation from the movie.) That said, we're not made of bazillions of moneys (I'm actually probably going to need to buy a scanner for all of this, the cheap one I have sucks balls...), and if there's sufficient interest in the music book, I would be willing to take donations to the end of getting my grubby hands on it. And, as you know, I will butcher the crap out of the poor thing to get high quality, usable scans out to all of you. Again, is there any interest in this? If there is, let me know, because then I'll plan out things.
