Re: Ammonite! (Favourite Duel Songs)

Ok, I'm guilty of never posting here, so now I'll do my best emot-tongue. The greatest Utena songs, which have a special place on my MP3 playaah, are (counting from the best)

1. Last Evolution - Damn, it's perfect! It gives me a feeling of being a special, but lonely person (damn lyrics!). And I can't imagine a better theme for Nanami emot-biggrin
2. Angel Creation, Namely Light - Aaahh, yes! Both versions are great. the original, and the "harder" one.
3. Akio's duel (I never can remember the name of da song).

Re: Ammonite! (Favourite Duel Songs)

I adore Truth, Rinbu Revolution, Virtual Star Embryology cos they all rule of course.

But I don't really have favourites, I just have periods that I move between depending on my moods.

I was first hooked on the student council arc duel songs so that was Miki's, Juri's and Nanami's. (How can you not love the repetitive climax's of the end of those songs, and the choral, "Ahhhhh~ahhh-ahhhh...", in Nanmi's.

But I've been moving here and there.

I've been hooked on Time Machine, Earth as a Character Gallery.

But my moods as of this period have been low, so pleanty of Allegory, Allegoier, Allegoriest and Magic Lantern Butterfly Moth 16th Century and Missing Link to keep me company.

One of my favorites, too.  It's so good because it's almost silly.

Riri-kins has a point. Astrological Star Hassegai is, in a word, EPIC. Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku is also very nice. Virtual Star Embryology isn't one of my favorites.....But I'm in love with the Student Council's theme, even though it's technically not a dueling song.

Re: Ammonite! (Favourite Duel Songs)

Missing Link. No doubt about it. Yes, it's the saddest, most traumatizing song in the series, but nothing captures the raw grief and torture of Anthy's plight---the plight of many or even all of the duelists---more perfectly. Maybe I'll even write an analysis of the song to demonstrate. emot-smile

My favorite fast duel song is the Angelic Creation, Namely Light Remix from OST 4. If you haven't listened to OST 4 b/c you normally hate remixes, break your habit for this one. It takes all your favorite songs from the Student Council and Black Rose arcs and remixes them into the wild, experimental band sound Seazer and Universal Gravitation are known for.

And my favorite non-remix? Internal Clock, Municipal Orrery. I actually disagree with the way the title's translated (maybe I'll write an analysis on that one too), but the beat is fast and final, fitting for the last true duel song of the series. Also the lyrics serve as a description of the entire history and nature of the duels, and if you analyze it, you realize why, despite Utena's determination and Anthy's hopes, the lyrics sing about "becoming an eternal corpeal city" or a "suspended clock".
