This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

PLAYING RED AND BLUE POKEMON
I got Pokemon Gold myself on my old Gameboy Colour and thanks to the replicating glitch that I exploit, I been about to start with all three starter pokemon, have as many items and TMs as I want and I can rechallange a Gym leader as many times as I want with an increasingly stronger Pokemon to build it up faster.
I can choose any mix I want from a number of high level Pokemon I have built up.
lvl 87 Electrobuzz, Ursarling 84, lvl 76 Typhlosion, lvl 71 Sudowoodo, lvl 70 Octillery, lvl 65 Primeape plus about a dozen or so other Pokemon over lvl 50

Yes, but is MISSINGNO. in Gold and Silver? I, for one, honestly don't know.
MISSINGNO. (Pokedex Entry 000) is a glitch based from the original. In Viridian City, there's a man who will show you how to use a Pokeball. Let him catch the Weedle, then FLY to Cinnabar Island and SURF down the east coast where the land touches water. You can encounter Pokemon between Level 100 and 255, and catch a MISSINGNO., as well. This little glitch will max out the item in the sixth slot of inventory. Useful for Rare Candy, Master Ball, and PP recovery items! But don't catch it or use it in battle, lest you destroy your saved game!
If this Pokemon exists in Gold and Silver, please let me know (I never played the sequel, so I don't really consider the new Pokemon to be Pokemon. Call me a purist, if you will.) so I can be sure of that information.

There was Missingono and Mysteryno. One was level 0, and the other was level 120. If you caught them, they knew "Sky Attack," "Sky Attack," and "Water Gun." Their icon looked like an old man, and eventually they turn into a Nidoking. If you beat the Pokemon league with them in your party, when it showed you all of the Pokemon in your party, the game would become all glitchy and play weird noises.
I caught the level 0 one and it destroyed my game.

I once caught a level 172 Aerodactyl using this glitch. My brother caught a Chansey at some ungodly level and got it to level 255 with plenty of Rare Candies. He used it in Colosseum battles to totally ruin the shit of those who challenged him. God, I remember trying to use my Mewtwo to conquer that unholy beast. It ruined my shit, too.
Gahhh...I still love Pokemon!
Gotta catch 'em all...gotta catch 'em all...gotta catch 'em all...

Me, I just bought Okami from Game Stop. Anyone played this yet? It got really good reviews. I'll tell you guys what I think in a few days!
Oh, man. This game is so pretty. The game mechanics (by this I mean the Celestial Brush techniques) are so innovative and fun. My only complaint is that the singsong babble which serves as the characters' speaking voices gets a little annoying at times. I admit, I haven't gotten very far in it, due to the one-two punch of a rough semester and the release of Final Fantasy XII, but it's a worthwhile game for sure.

OMG I was SO addicted to Okami.
Offline
Okami is quite addicting! I agree that the way they recorded the voices (is that normal voice played backwards or just total electronically synthesized play?) is annoying. The mere fact that you can press a button, freeze the screen, and draw something which CHANGES the actual world you are playing in is divine. It's giving you partial creators license. Hard to see the details within the battles though, I just press the appropriate buttons and wait for a grave to pop up.
I'll finish Okami in a few days, and then I'm going to conquer Clocktower 3. I bought that, because someone mentioned it in the "Rule of Rose" thread as being similar. I thought it was another game about a girl and her big fluffy white dog that helped lead her around a creaky castle. As you all know, I was mistaken and Clock Tower is a game where you're chased by serial killers as you travel through time. After I finally beat Clock Tower, I do want to find the game that I wanted in the first place...the girl, and the white dog, stuck in a haunted castle together. A horror survival game like RoR. Anybody have a clue as to what that game is called?

Stop it! I can't wait to get my hands on that game.
I've preordered Okami, and it's not out here for another 8 days... FFXII comes out the next day as well. I'm going to be holed up in my room for a good 24 hours with them, I think *exercises patience*
Oh, and I got my hands on Suikoden V, have played it a crapload these holidays, and holy crap the series has been redeemed! It's nearly as good as SII! This is probably the first time in a long while I've *really* enjoyed the plot of a game, if only because the characters that are supposed to be intelligent, are, and complex political plays actually appear.
Frosty, that game you're describing sounds so achingly familiar... it's like the title could be on the tip of my tongue.
Ah-hah! Yay Google!
Is it Haunting Ground?

So I finally booted up my PS2 today after an extended break, and accomplished the following...
Shadow of the Colossus - got myself un-lost after taking Aro on a joyride after defeating the first Colossus. Now I'm back at the main shrine and ready to finally go after the second Colossus which I had already located, but felt like exploring the land a little more first.
Final Fantasy X - Rescued Yuna at the stadium where my first Blitzball match was to have been.
...but more importantly, I am awaiting Amazon to ship my copy of Final Fantasy VI Advance! My video game life will be complete once I have this in my collection. (Somehow, Final Fantasy Anthology isn't enough anymore where FFVI is concerned. ) I need to get the rest of the Final Fantasy Gameboy ports too... I have Dawn of Souls (FF I & II), but not FFIV or FFV yet... and the sole reason I want a DS is for FFIII.

O: I finally, after weeks of putting it off finished Rule of Rose, and I've preordered Okami as well. I feel kind of odd that a lot of the games I'm playing these days only happen with reccomendation of you guys and 4chan's /v/.
And for those of you who are really into MMOs... which isn't usually me Granado Espada is damn fun, but under closed registration for now. I've only been playing for a day or two but it appears to be the bastard child of a typical FF-esque game and WoW. They still have a long way to go as far as certain things are concerned (like there's no character customisation, but they almost have to impliment that for an MMORPG if they want the game to be not-fucked) but as soon as it goes open beta I'd definitely recommend it.

Oh thank you - thank you - thank you Almaser, it was indeed, Haunting Ground!
So my gaming schedule looks like this:
Okami - beaten. Wins most unique game ever!
Finish Clocktower 3.
Wait for Xenogears to arrive.
Keep leveling in FF12.
Request Haunting Ground at Game Stop.
Play Xenogears.
Finish Xenogears.
(I hear the game is a life-altering experience, maybe I'll blog at this point)
Play Haunting Ground.

I've been playing Valkyrie Profile 2 lately. The gameplay is pretty neat, if somewhat repetitive. But it's repetitive in a fairly original and fun way, so that's fine. The story, on the other hand, just seems like a bunch of nonsense. And the constant cutscenes are more annoying than anything. Even though the voice acting is fine, though not great, it's hard to care about anything that happens plotwise. It's just the same old "The evil empire's doing bad stuff, we have to save the world!" kinda thing.

Which one? 1 or 2?

BG1. I have that and BG2, and I love them to pieces. NWN was all right, but nowhere near as cool as those two.

I still say you should try the X-COM series of games, Gio. They're tough, but ever so satisfying when you nail a Sectoid (they look just like the ones that mutilate cows) with his own heavy plasma cannon. Research, manufacturing, keeping your soldiers alive and the cash flowing...heavy micromanagement, but it's a real blast when you finally head for Cydonia (IT EXISTS!!) and destroy the controlling Brain once and for all...
...dammit, I just gave out the ending.
And the sequel focuses on serious Lovecraft and eldritch terrors from the depths of the Gulf of Mexico. Who knew the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs was a spaceship?
...dammit, I blew it again!
EDIT: Oh, yes, I finally beat Robotrek for the SNES. Take that, stupid Hacker Army! You have NOTHING on my robots! NOTHING!!

I love Haunting Ground. 1) Because it' a capcom game with controls that actually make sense and 2) It's so damn pretty, with a few good scares to boot if you're 3 A.M.-ing it in the dark. My only regret is that it's not longer/lacks a sequel. It would be fun to see different "stalkers," but the unlockable costumes give it a lot of replay value too
Survival horror games are definitely the best, but I think I've exhausted all the titles in its genre. Please tell me if I'm missing any, my brain craves the frustration of watching a panicked main character tripping over herself every eight minutes (Goddamn it, Fiona).
Haunting Ground
Clock Tower 3
Rule of Rose
The Fatal Frame Games
Thanks

There's also Kuon & The Suffering (a bit more action intense) if you're interested in horror games. Also Silent Hill and Resisdant Evil. Also, another unknown game is Siren which has a second game coming out soon from what I know.

Call of Cthulhu: The Dark Corners of the Earth. It's certainly survival horror, but not quite Resident Evil in style - for one thing, it's 1st person. Thanks to that it has some terrific sanity-loss effects, though. I play it on PC and it's great, for most part, but I've been told it's dreadful with a console pad. Still, despite of a bit old-fashioned graphics, it's style and mood are near-perfect even for a Lovecraft-nitpicker like myself. The voices of the citizens of Innsmouth...cool...

OMG I've heard of that one! I've wanted to play it but it's hard to find . . . like Fahrenheit! I was looking for that cuz, as Rebel Prince said, good survival horror games are few and far between and ended up buying it on amazon. I'll have to look for Call of Cthulu there too.
What am I playing? I'm just finished up Skies of Arcadia for the first time and then I'm going to replay FF8. I'm not normally an RPG gamer. I like action/adventure/horror games myself, but sometimes you gotta play a good RPG. I also started replaying MGS: Twin Snakes.

I ordered mine from a local gaming store and they spent months saying it's coming in the next week. Then I ordered it from Amazon and got it in less than a week. Wierd...

I'm surprised a lot of people here like this game as much as I do. I've been such a fanatic about it ever since it was released. It was the first RPG I've ever finished through ... and played through ten times. Believe me, once you play this game, you'll never look at other RPGs in the same way. It's superb. I can understand why Utena fans love this love. It just ... has everything we love, so to speak. Great soundtrack too. It's definately Yasunori Mitsuda's best ... in my opinion. Then again, I've always preferred Mistuda over Uematsu. I love the Celtic tunes better. I even still treasure the strategy guide even though it's falling apart. I had so much fun finding all the stuff it failed to mention (like obtaining Alice's wedding dress). Geez! I love you all for giving this game the respect it deserves!
Oh, and once you play Xenogears, don't bother to play the Xenosaga series. It doesn't even compare.
Though I'm not a Final Fantasy fan as much as I used to be, my favorites still are: FFVI and FFIX. FFVI had the best music and best characters. I loved FFIX because it was just so enlightening and I love the Zidane/Garnet pairing. They're my favorite couple. I just can't bring myself to love the new stuff my SquareEnix. It's not the same. I'm currently playing the GBA version of FFVI. Though it's still censored minimally, I love how they enhanced the sound and some other new additions. Best of all, the characters sound more real and not like robots! I also love how they maintained the original names of the enemies/weapons/techniques from the Japanese version. If you ever play FFVI though, the best version is the PSX version ... which the story is uncut.
Wow. That turned out longer than I expected.

I'm still playing UFO: Enemy Unknown.
It's great because you can play it for as long as you want. Just don't lose all your bases to the Aliens, stay financially afloat and research until you can go to Mars. Then just beat back the Alien forces as much as possible. You can get up to (I think) UFO number 32767 before the game presumably crashes. I'm only on 1050 or so. Boo hoo.
Then again, I've hacked the game so badly my laser pistols can burn holes through rock.
Then there's the sequel, Terror From the Deep. Half the story and the Aliens are inspired by Lovecraft, and sonic weapons, Molecular Control, harvesting humans and the mysterious Synonium Device give eldritch an entirely new meaning! I'm doing pretty good on that game.
I do admit to cheating as much as possible. I will save state using an emulator every chance I think I might lose. I feel there should be no shame in cheating.
