This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
On the extras DVD of the SKU remastered release, there's a montage of background art from the show. I thought people might be interested, so I used VLC to take a screenshot of each one, cropped out the black borders with Photoshop, and uploaded a .rar archive of the images here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VZZRINV5
They're not very high resolution, but they're pretty!

Yes, they are. Utena had truely jaw dropping scenery. One of the best examples of Scenery Porn.

Oh, this is awesome -- thank you for taking the time to post them.
(Hm, I still feel tempted to buy the new DVDs, but the price is kindof steep... oh decisions, decisions.)

When I looked over these, I found something rather surprising. Look:
That clearly shows the stairway into the duelling arena in the Forbidden Forest. I can't understand why I didn't notice it in the series proper, especially when this is probably the only instance it's visible from outside the forest - and the only indication that it's more than just an illusion from the perspective of the people at the bottom...

Viewing from afar, the stairway looks like an antenna, and the tower still looks like you-know-what

Wow, I always sort of assumed the stairway and all that would never be pictured unless you were there--that it was all part of the illuuuusion. *wiggly-fingers* I pretty much assumed it disappeared as soon as no one was there to use it, which is very zen in a way.

AWESOME.
Might I have your permission to host these in gallery on this site? You'd be credited in the credits page of course, but there's definitely new material here and I'd be honored to make it available to as many people as possible, if you're amenable.

Of course! Adding stuff to the gallery is always a good thing.

One thing puzzles me about Ohtori, why does all the trees and shrubs seem to be in shades of teal, aquamarine and blue?
Is this another symbolic thing I am missing?

To me, it seems less like internal symbolism and more a aesthetic decision. Having everything in the scenery being mostly blues and other "cool" colors makes it look very distinctive, and gives it a kind of ghostly quality.
