This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

What? You thought all I had to offer was ?
I apologize for the comparative lack of new content in this site update. Usually there's a small avalanche of new goodies, but to be honest, most of this update, timewise, was the coding and reconstructing and general cleaning of the site, gallery, and unholy other tons of work done to keep the site running smoothly now that my host (and most out there) put computing controls on accounts. So a lot of the work that went into this update will go unnoticed by you all, but the two big new things are PRETTY GOD DAMN BANGING, if I do say so myself.
The Frontpage wrote:
• A new section in the Akio shrine: The Machines. A work in progress, the current offering is an extensive analysis of his favorite toy car. Check out Things That Go Vroom in the Night!
• Thanks to Rhyaniwyn of IRG, a new interview is available at Mouths of Babes. This moderated IRC chat with Chiho Saito from at least a decade ago actually includes yours truly. My god, I've been around for a while, and since I ask about Saionji and use 'Akio-no-Miko' as my chat handle...can't say as I've grown much.
• Extensive and ridiculous code and database changes in the gallery. I won't bore you with details, but in theory, you shouldn't notice much different, except that images unrelated to the actual series are now on a separate database with different URLs. The gallery functions as before, with the exception of no longer having a search feature. (It was never implemented, anyway.)
• Updated the links section with some new stuff, and stripped the dead links.
Also of course, on the front page there's shout outs to Nozomi and the last box set, as well as Mawaru Penguindrum.
CLARICE. IS THAT YOU IN THAT CHAT GOING AS 'CLARISSE'???? Because if it is, we've crossed paths before.

What's wrong with Juri's eye? O.o

She's covering it because she's ashamed

She should have some 1-pixel tears flowing.

I am loving The Machines section; so much delicious analysis.
One thing I noticed though rereading LLOM: Some of the image links in the body language essay are broken (so far I've only noticed this in the section about eyelids but if I find any more I'll let you know).

Oh craps, thanks for letting me know! That actually has nothing to do with the gallery changes, this seems to be links to the old code where I had the Akio images separate. I see where all the images need fixing, but I can't do it right now since I'm about to go do volunteer orientation. I'll get to it tonight, thanks for giving me the heads up!

Oh, and Juri wouldn't cry.

When I ran across that on my hard drive after joining IRG I wondered the same thing. Please end the suspense!

These should all be fixed, for everywhere on LLOM. Thanks!

I mostly enjoy how you managed to write about Lestat in the section about the Akio car. XD Thank you for the killer update!

Pretty awesome holiday goodies. Thanks Gio!

... there's a site?

I like how you pointed out the back seat thing. I wasn't quite sure what kind of car it was, but that's always bothered me.
It adds an extra layer of taboo.

I don't know what that means... if you'll remember, I originally found this forum while looking for a song from one of the Utena soundtracks.

Goons are members of the forums on SomethingAwful.com. Something Awful has some of the biggest and (I hear) best forums on the Internet, in spite of charging for new accounts. But if you just go to the site, you'll quickly diagnose it as a generic humor site. As a result, "there's a site?" is a running joke among goons, who come for the forums and never even look at the main page. Last I heard, Gio and Yasha are both goons in good standing.
I admit to being the Ohtori.nu equivalent of a forum goon. My bookmark goes straight to IRG. If I don't need IRG, I need the gallery, and I have a bookmark for that, too. The only time I visit the main site is if I need to look up a script or one of the characters' birthdays, which is fairly unusual. But that's because I plundered the site when I first discovered it, reading every essay, devouring the fanart, and so on. I think the main site communicates the message "yes, there is an Utena community, and we care a lot" even better than the forums do!

lol, satyr beat me to it. Yeah, 'there's a site?' is a meme on the SA forums. A bannable one, actually. To be honest, it didn't occur to me you wouldn't know the site, since most people on the forums found the forums through it, even if, like satyr, they don't browse the site itself nearly as often. (Which makes sense since the content is largely static.) So sorry about that.
As for Lestat, it was kind of unavoidable, I couldn't think of any other common immortal character that dealt with immortality quite so much like it was a carnival. Usually there's some kind of tragic dissatisfaction with the condition.

Great. The internet humor compendium is so full that one can actually accidentally stumble onto a meme.

Yeah, but at least I don't keep up too well with the 4chan memes or we'd all be screwed.
PS. Changed and to have an extra pixel so the smilies don't blend together when people train them.

Thanks for the update Gio, and happy Akiomas!

I bet Akiomas stays more true to the original idea of the thing than Christmas. Akio's already a consumer whore.

Thanks for the update Gio! Looks like a LOT Of backend work went into this one, good job

Thank you, Gio! I know we've all got less and less time for these things. Is Akiomas like Mardi Gras, only with buying shit too? HOT DAMN.
