Re: Gaiaonline

I love being drawn into the events. They make me feel more attuned with the user base that I'd normally never talk to. ( How I met my ex, actually. Halloween of 07. Or was it the summer one? Blah. )

Ahhh S.I.N. I had a lot of fun this event. Everything was amazing besides the ending. However! Both NPCs are kickin' and it means they'll be weaved into the story later on. I can only hope. *Flips off Jack* I...did want the Sentinel to bash the Overseer's head in though. ._.

I have two mules I used. Another that works with the S.I.N and one that was B.O.O for the skin. The B.O.O one will never be able to change his appearance or else he'll lose the skin. Just like the 2k4 zombies.

I'd rate it like this:

Hype: 8/10
Plot: 7.5/10
Items: 7.5/10
Gameplay: 7/10
NPCs: 8/10
Manga: 7.5/10
Ending: 3/10

Better then last year but doesn't beat 2k7 for me at least.

Lastly, time for the victory commish I'm ordering. cool

They've been getting cheap with the EIs. emot-gonk I miss the good doc. I am one of few who enjoys her...humor.

And what the hell-? They banned all the cigeratte or 'smoking' items. I think it's just a joke but wooow. I've never seen the GCD/SF in such an uproar.

I log on and everyone's dressed as either like this: A hooker, with booze, or smoking with some kind of smoke-effect. Pages and pages of people protesting by putting on their soulbound smoking items. It's kinda funny.

Re: Gaiaonline

Interesting note about those soulbound tobacco items.

The Overseer still gives them out (should I call that mermaid thingy the Overseer anymore? After H2k9, I always wondered if I'd get my pretty rainbow clammy back in my tank... Fucking Jack.) and they now sell for the price that you normally bought them at. I know of only one other instance in which the admins did this for items (that is, raise the sellback price to the retail value by doubling its cost) and that's when they phased out the garden trowel and bug net at the Flowershoppe and Fishing Shop.

So effectively a cigarette costs 2000 Gold instead of its original 1000 Gold, for the purpose of selling it from inventory to get 1000 Gold instead of 500. Since these are Gold shop items, you can sell them despite the soulbinding. I think they're only soulbound so you can't do anything but equip or sell it to the shops. The same holds true for zOMG! powerups, rings, materials and recipes (everything but a recipe sells for 1 Gold, where recipies have fixed values). Soulbound doesn't always mean stuck in inventory.

The Gifted skins, however, can't be sold because they have no sale value. Which is a shame because I told Chani I'd totally trade her my SIN skin for her Potatoverseer skin. emot-frown

(It's a potato, I guess, Chani. That's what everybody is saying, anyway.)

Yeah, I'm a member of Gaia but I rarely ever go on anymore, because the forums are ridiculous. I used to hang around ED, but just... ick. It's a good way to raise my blood pressure.

I still stop by my guilds once in a while to see what's going on. And I like the drawing style for the original Gaia characters. I thought the Vampires vs. Humans Halloween event was a lot of fun. And oddly enough, it helped me realize my vampire kink school-devil I so wanted the Halloween comic that year to have yaoi in it.

r

Same here. I love dressing my avatar all crazy, but the forums are just god awful. I've never seen such a slew of unintelligent posts. I troll the GD a while back to piss off the people there, but even that's just lost it's fun.

I just heard about the tobacco ban too. It's is interesting out of all things to ban. I've seen avatars with blowjobs, stripper poles, nearly exposed breasts, marijuana, and alcohol. I mean, that and before they ban virtual cigarrettes, why don't they check out the GD's forum posts? I mean, there's 15 years olds talking about killing off races and gay and posting self pornography.

Re: Gaiaonline

All is not well in the Gaian ladder. Most users think Lanzer still has the say in everything.

He doesn't. He can try but it's not quite his call anymore. There are peeps or a peep that's above him to make some choices. More then likely, an anti-smoking thing was going to give Gaia money. So in return what's the most logical things to remove? The smoking items~. Of course it seems like now not all the devs and admins are aware or agree with this. Many of shown their own disapproval.

Gaia has become a company. Not the privately-owned forums many of us oldbies miss.

It seems like the ban is gonna be lifted. Woot. This is just like when Gaia banned the word 'pedo'. Mass QQ of rights and all that jazz got it changed.

...Other note, I hang around the GCD/SF. I co-run a large GCD guild for friends and regs with a very good friend of mine. Guilds on Gaia can be the best place ever. I recently opened one myself for RPing and for a place to post fanfics/drabbles~. emot-dance

From what I understand, the reason anything starting with the prefix "pedo-" was banned because /b/ -- the Random Image Board of 4chan and lovingly called "the asshole of the Interwebs" -- spammed every single forum with mentions and images of "Pedobear." Who is like Domo-kun in that it's just a freaking Japanese mascot for something or other, but noooooo, the /b/tards had to turn it into something like an undercooked, rotting, maggot-infested sirloin steak. emot-mad

Ironically, that's how I feel about the spammers here on IRG, so...yeah. emot-frown

Oh, get this, everyone.

Apparently Sentinel and Overseer are trying to make the best of their mortal situation. They're spearheading the Xmas campaign for 2009, from what I've heard.

I don't know about you, but I'm thinkin' "Demonbusters 2: The Battle Continues" whenever I dwell on that one.

I think the admins have run out of ideas now. We've had the zombie war, the vampire war, the Alien war, the battle royale, the demon war...what's next? The Easter Bunny is in hiding for sending mail-egg bombs to everyone in '08, Santa's back to normal and they killed the cow, Jack had his day in the spotlight with the Halloween event...seriously, what's next!? I'd love to hear everyone's suggestions.

You sicken me. Knowing that the admins would do such a horrible disservice to Timmy if he were forced to grow up faster than a Chryssalid (they mature from an egg within less than ten minutes, FYI)... Am I the only person I know who voted to keep him as a child, because I knew what the admins would pull?

I kid, I kid. I figured all the fangirls wanted him to be a shiny bishie, and the admins knew that, so they gave us the reverse. I think Timmy's status as basically a human Evolving Item is pretty cool, if you think about it. First being sealed in a can of toxic waste, then turning into a smooth jazz player, then turning evil, then being separated from his evil, then being turned into an adult, then going to jail, then going on a journey of enlightenment...

Also, while Dr. Singh is an okay enough character, I wouldn't call her to watch my kids for the evening. I don't know if I'd ever see them in one emotional piece when I got back. emot-tongue

Re: Gaiaonline

That's why you find a Guild that shares a couple of your interests, winksniper. Guilds are about the only safe zones these days. If you're bothered by netspeak and leetspeak (and I assume that you know which is which), you can usually find a literate guild that runs to your tastes, but know that many of them are hidden guilds, meaning you don't get to sample the wares unless you join. I run a guild only because it's the only guild of its type in Gaia. It is a literate guild, and is private as opposed to hidden (you can look, but no touching) but has no join fee (I paid for all the subforums myself when arranging everything; anything else would be a waste of Gold). However, we do perform background checks regarding your post history before we accept your join request (this is to cut down on trolling and TOS violations), and we don't support netspeak or leetspeak. Even if you don't know the subject matter (and to be honest, only perhaps one person here on IRG would grasp it immediately), we're willing to educate through the power of HTML Magic!

I'd pimp my guild out here, but not too sure if it'd be such a wise idea. We only have two crew -- me and my Vice Captain. Which makes sense as we only have four members (including Crew). If you are interested, though, look up my profile on Gaia -- I'm as much BioKraze there as I am here. It'll be listed under my profile, and you'll get to know a few things about me that I haven't revealed to IRG. Neat, huh? emot-keke

Re: Gaiaonline

I joined Gaia some time ago, in about 2004. Back then it was easier to find forums to chat in and feel particularly...I don't know noob free. It's been through a lot of changes since then, and has expanded to it's current form. I'm more of an on again/off again gaian.

I seem to be getting caught in guild drama as of late. Not that I'm actually apart of it, more like the people around me seem to have been divided into factions and I'm one of two or three in the grey area...  There were a few forums I remember lurking around in the past, that I wished were still up. There was the Le Gasp! lgbt forum  I was silently fond of, and I used to like surfing around gaia's ED

Re: Gaiaonline

Lurk-surfing again, but thought I'd surface to share an easy (if very expensive IRL) way to get oodles of Gold without using horrible emotionless bots and time. I realized all I really do on Gaia is stay for the avatars and see what I can pick up to make new ones. I only use tektek's avi creator to model things I want in big batches, and for individual items I use the fancy new preview feature added to shops and Marketplace.

Okay, enough rambling.

Step 1: SAVE YOUR MONEY IN REAL LIFE. Seriously. The best way to do this is to have at least $25 USD. If you can score $50 USD, you're good to go. If you don't live in America, you'll probably have to do this online, either through Paypal or other methods. I'm not joking in the least when I say this will be expensive; your wallet WILL take a hit if you do it this way. Try to aim for no less than $30 and no more than $100.

Step 2: If you have access to Gaia Cash cards here in the US of A, go buy some. If you don't, go buy some GCash online. Don't overextend yourself IRL, because nothing's worse than having millions of Gold and no money to pay the bills with. emot-frown

Step 3: Once you have all your shiny GCash, go hit the Cash Shop. Look for the newest, shiniest Chance Item Generator (henceforth called RIGs) and look for the 9-pack one. It will usually cost 999 GCash. If it does, buy one for every $10 you have in GCash. If not, wait until one with a price of 999 GCash shows up.

Step 4: Go to your inventory and unpack the bundles. If this is your first time using Paypal on Gaia, you'll have to wait several days for the confirmation and such. Very annoying, but prices rarely fluctuate on Marketplace during this time. If you paid for your GCash through card redeems, you shouldn't have this problem.

Step 5: Scope out the prices on individual RIGs from the bundles you unpacked. This is very important! Individuals sold in lots of nine return a greater amount of Gold than if you sold them while still bundled. General rule: BUNDLES NEVER RETURN MORE WHEN NOT UNPACKED. Adjust your price for selling off all these RIGs for slightly lower than lowest buy price. Knock a couple thousand off, don't be a douche and just knock 1 Gold off.

Step 6: Take those shiny unpacked RIGs and sell them. Remember you have a hard limit of 10 items in your store at any time, so make sure to stop once you have 10 items listed. As items get sold, you can go back and put more RIGs up for sale. Never allow bids to be made, always set to BUY ONLY.

Step 7: Wait a few days to finish selling your RIGs because it WILL take a while. One option is to check in every three or four hours if you can, and see if anything sold. Keep track of how many RIGs you have to sell total, and check that number against how many messages/notices you got (provided you have notices set to show for selling MP items).

Step 8: Once all has been sold, look at your shiny dragon's hoard of Gold. Now you're free to do with it as you please. Whether it's sitting on it, giving some to friends or just going hog-wild in the shops, find a way to enjoy and appreciate it.

And now those who tread this thread know my secret. emot-keke I never said it would be cheap at all, but if you have a burning need for Gold in a hurry and some real-life money you can affort to part with, this is your golden secret. And best of all, it's totally legal by the site's standards to do so. The only reason you wouldn't want to spend more is because there's a hard limit of $200 USD in GCash and Gaia Store purchases every month. I'm not yet sure if GCash card purchases in stores count against this limit; if I do manage to find out, I'll let everybody here know what the verdict is.

Re: Gaiaonline

I was introduced to Gaia by a classmate in high school and I must have been posting on all the right forums because I've rarely encountered any sort of stupidity while I was there. The only instance of stupidity I can think of was when I was working on a puzzle on the highest difficulty (It took me two days to finish!). Someone came in and started up an inappropriate conversation and I told the person that I didn't think that conversation was appropriate. After a mini argument and an empty threat, the guy left and I had a nice appropriate conversation with a few other people that were on there before finally finishing that puzzle.

Re: Gaiaonline

AUGH emot-mad I only have about 300k in gold and am virtually out of GCash. For somebody who likes to have like five million in gold so's they can clean out half of each of their friends' wishlists, this is a big problem. I actually don't buy many things for myself unless I'm going to be using it in a new avi theme. Of which I have, like... over 40 of them. >>;;;

Also, did anybody see the general squeeing going on with the release of the new RIG, Astra Metamorphosis? I've already got four different pairs of wings, but I might only need two of them. One is reserved for one of my friends and the other, I'm waiting on to see if any vIRGins on my friendslist happens to put it up on their wishlist.

But yeah, everybody's been bitching like forever for back wings (which, on Gaia, are totes SERIOUS BUSINESS) and the developers decided to give us an item that, if you use it, gives you one pair of animated back wings from a set of at least fifteen different designs. My only problem is that the site lags like whoa if I've got an animated item equipped on my avi. :/ Ah well, the price to pay for stylin' awesomeness. cool
