This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Since pratically no one is reading, I decided now would be the best time to unveil Part Zero. It is named after practically the only Chigusa website online (sorry if I needed permission to name it that), and it stars both her and the Player from 4 Days at Ohtori, whom I've named Ameijko, which means Amethyst Child. This is currently the only part of VSE that takes place at Ohtori, and it serves as a prequel to the other parts. You will see the Student Council, the Black Roses, and, as a treat to Giovanna and Yasha, Mrs. Ohtori. And so, the beginning...
Virtual Star Embryology Part 0
Elegant Destruction
Three Months Ago
Ameji:
Ohtori Academy?
Mama:
It’s a very prestigious school located in Hou’ou City. Both papa and I went to high school there, it’s where we met.
Papa:
And now, it’s your turn.
Mama:
We know you’ll do well, Amejiko.
(Mama, papa, I promise, I’ll make you proud of me)
Ohtori Academy, Present Time
<The morning bell begins to ring. The students start to rush to get to class>
Class 7A
<The spinster teacher with the red glasses has just about finished roll call>
Spinster Teacher:
Okay, that seems to be just about everyone. Except…
Ameji:
Here!
<The Spinster Teacher and the rest of class turn their heads towards Ameji, who has just burst her way through the door. She is a thirteen year-old girl with violet-colored hair tied in two small braids. She is tired and trying to catch her breath>
Ameji <wheezing>:
I’m, here, teacher!
Spinster Teacher:
Young lady, that is the third time this week you have been late to class.
Ameji:
I know. My alarm clock didn’t go off this morning.
(Because a mouse had chewed through the wire, not that she’d believe it)
Spinster Teacher:
Yesterday you said you were up late studying for that math test we had, which, I might add, you did poorly on.
(Well I just can’t understand trigonometry no matter how you put it)
Ameji:
I know.
Spinster Teacher:
And the day before that you said you couldn’t find a clean uniform in time.
(The dorm washing machine was on the fritz so I had to swim through the dirty clothes hamper)
Ameji:
I know.
Spinster Teacher:
Well unfortunately, Amejiko, you know that in this classroom the third time gets you a detention.
Ameji:
But, teacher-!
Spinster Teacher:
Save your excuses, Amejiko. You will report after final period to clean up the classroom and the science lab. Do you have a problem with that?
<Ameji looks embarrassed. She should, considering she was just chewed out by the teacher in front of the whole class>
Ameji:
No, teacher.
Spinster Teacher:
Good, then take your seat so we can begin our first lesson.
Ameji:
Yes teacher.
<Ameji walks over to her desk by the window glumly, her head hanging in shame. She hears the other students snickering about her>
(Detention again. Way to got, Ameji. Why can‘t you just be on time for once?)
Spinster Teacher:
Now, if you will all take out your textbooks and turn to page-
<Someone knocks on the door>
Spinster Teacher:
Yes, come in.
<The teacher gasps when we see that it is the Chairman, Akio Ohtori>
Spinster Teacher (surprised):
C-chairman Ohtori!
Akio:
I hope I’m not interrupting your class.
Spinster Teacher:
Oh! Not at all.
(The Chairman? What’s he doing here?)
Spinster Teacher (giddy):
What is it we can help you with this morning, Chairman?
Akio:
Well I found this wandering around campus and I though I’d bring her here.
Spinster Teacher:
Her?
<A girl steps in front of the class from behind Akio. She is a radiant beauty, one of whom would probably have statues dedicated in her honor during Roman times. She is wearing a sophisticated dark violet blouse over a blue-violet skirt, along with a gold and black choker around her neck. Her hair is a shade of blue, almost like pale turquoise that falls gracefully over her shoulders and curls near the end. Her eyes, her eyes are a shade of black so dark it’s like looking into the void of space>
(She’s…so beautiful)
Spinster Teacher:
You must be the transfer student we were expecting this week.
<The students begin whispering amongst themselves. They didn’t know they were expecting a new student>
Spinster Teacher:
Class.
<The students hush up and look straight ahead to the front of the classroom>
Spinster Teacher:
This is Chigusa Sanjouin from the Ohtori Academy Campus in Amsterdam. She was transferred here in part of a student exchange program and will be spending the next couple of months in our class.
Class:
Hello!
<The teacher begins to drone on about the exchange program>
(Wow. A student all the way from Europe. She must be some type of genius)
<As the teacher talks on, Chigusa moves her glance over Ameji’s way. Ameji looks surprised>
(Is, is she looking at me?)
<Chigusa begins to slowly nod her head in accordance to what the teacher is saying, but Ameji feels as if Chigusa is reading her thoughts. Ameji lowers her head and blushes. Akio begins to form a slick smile on his face as this happens. The teacher then finishes her explanation>
Akio:
Well then, I will leave you to it. Enjoy your stay here at Ohtori, Miss Sanjouin.
Chigusa:
Thank you Chairman. I feel that I’ll have a most…
<Narrows her eyes towards Ameji>
Chigusa:
…enjoyable stay here at Ohtori.
<Akio begins to leave the classroom>
Akio:
Oh, and…
Spinster Teacher:
Yes, Chairman?
<Bats her a smile>
Akio:
Keep up the good work.
<The Spinster Teacher swoons and does a Nanami-esque pose. The entire class begins to feel awkward at the sight of this. The teacher then quickly recomposes herself>
Spinster Teacher:
Uh, yes, well, Miss Sanjouin, why don’t you take a seat so we may begin.
Chigusa:
Of course.
Spinster Teacher:
Now, as I was saying…
<The teacher begins to write a complicated math formula on the chalkboard. Ameji still has her head lowered and is still blushing when Chigusa takes a seat right next to her. At the same time, a fly has started buzzing around the classroom>
Chigusa:
Excuse me?
<Ameji doesn’t respond, thinking Chigusa means someone else>
Chigusa:
Miss?
Ameji:
Do you mean me?
Chigusa <smiling>:
Of course.
Ameji:
Um, what is it I could do for you?
Chigusa:
I was wondering if you could show me around the campus today. As you can see, I’m not that good with directions.
Ameji:
Are you sure you mean me?
Chigusa:
Yes. You seem like a nice person.
Ameji <happier>:
Oh, you think so?
Chigusa:
Yes. You seem like a nice person.
Ameji <happier>:
Oh, you think so?
Chigusa:
Tell me, what’s your name?
Ameji:
Amejiko Amatshainingu, or just Ameji.
Chigusa:
Well, Ameji, I’d like to be very good friends with you.
(Maybe my luck might start to turn around)
<Ameji laughs a little, and Chigusa gives off a smile, an almost cold one. At the same time, the teacher swats the fly as it lands on the board>
Spinster Teacher:
Got it!
