This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Just heard about this via Tumblr:
http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/utena/bd.html
The first boxset (eps 1-24) will be out in Japan on January 23rd, and the second (eps 25-39 plus the movie) will come out on February 27th.
I kind of figured that a Blu-Ray release would come eventually, but I wasn't quite expecting it at this stage! (I thought they'd wait for another milestone anniversary or something, like with the DVD remasters.) Excited, guys?

Is this a sign of an impending newbie influx?

heeheehee It's on mine and Ruka's birthday~
I would want the movie, but probably not the show. :/

Even though Utena's voice actress is no longer with us, a spin off focused on the eventual fate(s) of those from the remaining cast would've been so fly~
That, or give us SKU, the Next Generation, where the now 29-30 yr old young mom Utena can get a new, more mature voice; the show now can focus on her and Anthy's (remember how she can switch gender ala "Mamiya?") love child, and her (or his) angsty entanglements with the largely unholy offsprings of the Student Council bunch

but but... I only just spent all of my money buying the DVD remasters. :[
How many times am I going to have to buy this show?

Do want.
Except I don't have any blu-ray at the moment, so now I'm not sure what to do. Get the DVDs or wait in case I get a blu-ray.
Oh well, I'm in no hurry to spend more money right now.

Another $600 huh...it'll have to be done somehow...

I wonder if they'll do a few more upgrades for this release.
Maybe fixing the spinning roses more? Redrawing the frames that they show up in (the original ones are jumpy with blurry brown edges)? Fixing Anthy's disappearing glasses during the second sword drawing? Fixing Anthy's dissappearing hand during the staircase climb?
They'll need selling points like these to convince buyers of the original boxsets, after all.

Time to sell some worthless stuff, see if I can start getting some money before the copies run out.

I've been searching for news about the Blu Ray release, and I found this article which seems to talk about the screening event and how it was. Ikuhara, Chiho Saito, and Tomoko Kawakami's Mother were there. Apparently this will also come with a stuffed Chu-Chu. There's also a link to the Blu-Ray release's official Twitter account. If anyone could translate any of this, that'd be awesome.

So now, in addition to springing for the final collector's ed, in preparation for the new collector's ed, I'm going to have to invest in a region-hacked blueray player?
Rent? What's rent got to with anything?
Of course, I don't HAVE to buy it.

Lucky for you, DVD and Bluray regions are not the same.
USA and Japan are in the SAME bluray region. No hacking necessary. Any Japanese bluray you buy will play here in the US straight out of the box.

Do want. I personally love the cover. Sad that I probably won't be able to afford it for quite a while...

It's a nice thought, but... I'm not in the US.

My mistake, I didn't remember where you were from. Your next-best bet is to see if it will be a region-locked release or not.

That is kind of cool, but since I lack a Blu-Ray player and money; I think I'll just stick to my re-mastered DVD set and the awesome ring I got with it.
Also, since it's the Japanese set it's probably very expensive and would be hard to watch since it probably doesn't have English subs. I guess it's a nice collector's item though and at least it will actually play on Blu-Ray players in the US and Canada.

It's possible, if perhaps unlikely, that the Japanese blu-rays might in fact have English subtitles included. This has been known to occur on some blu-rays - the Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha movie, for instance.

THERE'S GOING TO BE A NICO NICO LIVE EVENT! Episodes 1, 2, 7, 9, 12, 14, 23, 25, 34, 38, and 39 will be played, apparently. It's a good chance to see if it's been touched up at all.

The boxes are out in Japan today. Did anyone here have the mountains of money to buy them?
There seems to be a cel giveaway going on. I'm guessing they're reproduction cels.

There's also new artwork by Chiho Saito. Nanami and Shiori are in them, too!:

I wonder if Chiho Saito's art style has changed much after all these years.

Saito drew Shiori and Nanami? Yay! I've always wanted to see them in her style! I hope someone will be able to make nice big scans of these new illustrations at some point; going by that photo, they look lovely.

It's basically gotten cleaner and more rounded since she drew the SKU mangas; the biggest change is in her colouring, though that may or may not be largely down to using different materials.

Any larger images?
Also, this might give me the motivation to buy the same series again for the third time.
