Actually, it isn't too abnormal to have male cheerleaders at all. There's male cheerleading team in Japan, too!

Cheerleading causes more injuries than any other school sport, so as far as I'm concerned, it's a sport that deserves respect towards its players! Breaking a boy's arm for being a cheerleader is completely unacceptable.

In my country cheerleading was traditionally a male activity, though it doesn't work quite like the American equivalent - think of a bunch of large men with deep, loud voices, chanting for the team. No acrobatics or special uniforms or anything like that. Nowadays the American style cheerleading has gained some popularity, though.
