This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Happy Halloweeeeen
Once upon a weeknight dreary,
As I pondered quantum theory,
Per my reputation as a man made out of microchips,
While I sat there all unfeeling,
Suddenly there came the pealing
Of the bell above my ceiling, at the entrance to my crypts.
"'Tis an applicant," I snickered, "seeking entrance to my crypts,
Here to find Apocalypse."
Said she, "To be twins with Miki
Was obsessive, sweet, and sticky --
I still taste the way he'd say my name between his milkshake sips.
Woefully I see my brother
Now enamored of another --
God, how I would love to smother Anthy's head between my hips!
How can I reclaim him, take my brother's eyes from off her hips?"
Quoth the Rose: Apocalypse.
"Once I was outshone by Juri,
Crying till my eyes were blurry --
I could only seethe in fury, trapped behind her pale eclipse.
Desperately I tried to drag her
Down upon my poisoned dagger --
Now I know she dreamt of me in lesbian relationships!
Does it mean I beat her, that she dreams of such relationships?"
Quoth the Rose: Apocalypse.
"When I met my friend Nanami,
Prayerfully I thanked the kami
(Though my tales of fawning on her make me think of acid trips).
Though my thoughts are growing bolder,
There is not, until I'm older,
Anything to do but smolder, gazing at her perfect lips.
Might I find adulthood in the chalice of her eyes and lips?"
Quoth the Rose: Apocalypse.
"Oh my God, I lost Saionji,
Wild and reckless as Jumanji,
Tamed, I thought -- he whittled me the tenderest of bobby clips.
Now he's gone, and I'm forsaken,
Self-esteem upset and shaken,
None to take and never taken, one of many nondescripts.
Can't I be a shining light and leave the crowd of nondescripts?"
Quoth the Rose: Apocalypse.
"Help me! I'm in love with Touga,
Head o'er heels like lust were yoga,
Feeling as rejected as the extras in the movie scripts,
Banished by the younger Kiryuu --
Oh, how I have grown to fear you! --
Touga-senpai, when I'm near you, how my heartbeat jumps and skips!
Just for once, can I be with the man for whom my heartbeat skips?"
Quoth the Rose: Apocalypse.
Into this collage I've pasted
Portraits of the souls I've tasted,
Bright young minds I've spent and wasted like so many poker chips.
Now at last has come the hour
I myself will wear the flower,
Tapping boundless founts of power, power at my fingertips!
Will I melt my demons with the power at my fingertips?
Will I bring Apocalypse?

I don't think I can properly express just how much I love this.

This is something I never thought would happen, but I am pleasantly proven wrong. Good job!
Just a quick question, how hard was it to figure out a workable rhyme for Saionji? I'm really curious about the work process behind this piece!
EDIT: This is my 69th post? And on something about the Black Rose saga of all things... Does mean anything?

It actually came to me immediately. I halfheartedly tried to find an alternative, because Saionji doesn't really rhyme with Jumanji very well if you pronounce his name properly, but it was too fun a rhyme; how many chances do you get in a lifetime to rhyme Saionji with Jumanji? And forced rhymes are funny if you do them right, so I went with it. I could have just not used his name as a rhyming word, of course, but that would have broken the pattern of the other stanzas. "Miki" and "sticky" was way harder to justify than "Saionji" and "Jumanji."

Too beautiful for words! So many internets won!
Forced rhymes are often the best, too!

I'm glad you think so! You might like this scrapped alternate fragment I wrote for Wakaba:
[Fool!, to think that I was special
At a school so Hermann Hessial]

Poor Wakaba.
The entire poem is pure genius but I particularly love Mikage's stanza. So poignant, in character and beyond perfect. All the internets is belong to you!

You combined the work of one of my favorite authors with one of my favorite anime. You have won the internet and a lifetime supply of Pop-Tarts in my eyes.

Black Rose Saga Gaiden
["I thought just because Wakaba
Called me prince once, I would proba-
Bly in kind hear my confession echoed back without a hitch.
Such delusion fools, convinces --
Soon my smiles turned into winces
As my loved one flung her prince's passion in a bygone ditch!
Till she claims her onion prince's love, I swear I'll bear this ditch!"
Quoth the Rose: Whatever, bitch.]
