This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I have it at home right now. It's a X-mas gift for my one firned that absolutely adores the scary, disturbing, fucked up games. I think it'll fit nicely. Odds are we'll be playing through it next Friday. I'll let you know more of my thoughts on the game then.
The premise alone makes it one of the most disturbing games I've seen. I do know it was so disturbing and controversial that SONY refused to bring it to the States. Thank the gods that we have ATLUS willing to do it.

The same here, Italy judges this type of game really bad, I remember somone says that Rule of Rose would be censored in Italy, fortunatly the laws isn't passed
I've played it a bit, the gameplay is like a classical survival horror, but of course the story is the better point(symbolism, lot of symbolism). Well Rule of Rose isn't so scary(I give 7/10), however I like odd children and strange things related.
My favourite characters is Eleonor(...), The Cold Princess, ranked Baroness.

Haunting Ground was GREAT game for its type, if you havent played it, you really should!

I got the game when it came out awhile ago. From a action point-of-view, the controls and gameplay is pretty wacky but, the real gem of the game is the actual plot. This is the only game I wanted to play over again so I could experience such a engaging storyline, it just had me driven to the end of my seat, wanting to play more, what's gonna happen, what's gonna happen?! As for those who scare easily, no worries, it doesn't have much of a fear factor at all. It's more of a creepy foreshadow that tends to follow you throughout the game.
As for Haunting Ground, a lot of people like to compare the two games but I just can't. They're so different, sure the dog aspect is there but it's much more well-done in Haunting Ground while more helpful in Rule Of Rose.

ok.. I beat this game awhile back and all I have to say is... EVIL CHILDREN.... EVIL EVIL CHILDREN.
And I hate that mermaid... I've never hated a boss like this before. GAH....
With that said, I really liked the game. It was very well written and a lot of fun and the children arn't ACTUALLY all that evil when you find out all of what's going on... but still. Also if you're someone who doesn't like lots of fights in a horror game this is the game for you. There is some fighting and you do have bosses you need to defeat, however there aren't that many and most of the game is finding things.
And the music is awesome.... I really want the soundtrack. During the bird level it's just amazing. Also all the music is actually recorded instruments, not digitally changed/produced. Which is part of why it sounds so good.

Ah, that reminds me, has anyone gotten the octopus costume? It’s worth it because Brown gets turned into a crab. It’s the funniest thing I have ever seen! When you tell him to stay/sit, he leans on one side of himself and will scratch at doors as a crab.

I just completed it yesterday and I loved it sooooooooo much. What was really annoying was the fact that at the last minute they decided not to release it in the UK so I had to import it. I was worth it though. That's one soundtrack I have to have!
I'm not going to say anything about the ending but suffice to say I found it quite upsetting for many reasons.
A question for anyone who's played it; has anyone else found that Brown gets stuck on walls sometimes and then ends up walking back and forth, back and forth in this weird sort of dance? It's mildly amusing.
The Mr Hoffman boss drove me insane because he seemed to hit me even when I was behind him. Plus I wanted to know more about Diana and what makes her tick but you really don't find out that much.

HOT DAMN! This sounds like just the kind of game I'd love...
T___T I don't have a ps2 though... nor will I probably ever get one...
They're so expensive... *sniff*

Lol I loved Rule of Rose. Even though the battle system is terrible. D: I play the soundtrack quite often. But yes, it's an interesting and unique game and there are LOTS of ROSES! Yay!

Me too! The mermaid is very very long, for me was more difficult kill the mermaid that the Stray Dog.
I've beat the game last night and I'm really confused...
Not for the plot itself, but some linking between the events.

I will have to look into borrowing my brother's ps2, I think. This game looks like pure win.

Taking a short break from FF12 power leveling... I just bought the game thanks to all of your recommendations!
It's so awesome! Those little kids freak me out "walking birth control" as I like to call them.
Whoever said the musical score was amazing was right! That opening song makes me delirious.

YOU GUYS ARE MAKING ME OBSESSED WITH THIS GAME!!!
I think that Diana is soooo pretty!
I'd be her little demonic love-obsessed freak/slave in a second!

Yes, she's quite hot.
But again, Eleonor is better.

Aaah, deshou?
Really?
I haven't played the game yet, but from what I see of Diana, I likey. Especially how she's all like some demonic combination of Juri, Nanami, Shiori, & pure evil. She so pretty...
Gah... I've already printed out pictures of her...

Hey!!! I've been collecting all the film rolls, but I can't find a place to play them. Will I find one in the end, or have I not searched enough????
I'd say I'm halfway through now. What an INTRIGUING STORY!!! I gotta find out what's happening, I still have NO clue! So twisted, and Hyacinth, if you wanna be Diana's slave, you're in luck. She totally bosses you around in a rude, arrogant manner. Entirely too cheeky for me.

In the last chapter "Once upon a Time", there's is a old cinema camera where you can play the movies. Remember, in the last chapter, if you find the camera in another chapter it will not work.

Ok.... I was just thinking... There are some interesting things that the council in RoR have in common with the council in SKU... I mean... They all follow orders from a semi hidden main force, causing other people to have to do horrible things or/and fight eachother... There's a whole social hierarchy thing going on... And in the end there are things in common too... Though I wont get into that because it's a huge RoR spoiler... Or at least I think it is.

2nd pot of coffee! I will beat this tonight/today/whatever!
Teatime, I think you're on to something. I find myself finding SKU parallels as well. Not just in the roses.
