This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)

Wooo, you're the first person to mention Silent Hill! (beside me, that is)
SH is the best survival/horror game I've played.
True dat, true dat! Now if only it would have the consistency that Resident Evil has.
Resident Evil has a pretty consistently good score as far as it's games go, it's just not that original. Silent Hill is very original, but it's got a 'curse of the even numbered gaaaames!' 2 & 4 were HUGELY dissapointing due to their complete and total over-psychology thing. Oh, and 2 made no sense in general.
Another game I like: Ragnarok Online. (My name is Hyacinth Black, an I'm a level 60ish Priestess! I haven't been on that much recently, but I'm doing the best that I can with all of the work that I've been getting in High School)
One more: Clocktower 1 (2 sucked...)

It's my understanding that Silent Hill 4 wasn't originally planned to be an SH game and that Konami tacked the franchise on to sell it better. (This could be completely wrong, but that's what I was told by a semi-rabid fan of the series.)
I'm currently replaying the first SH in preparation for going through two and three for the first time. (I broke down and bought them off of ebay.)
I thought everyone loved the second one most of all?
Also Katamari Damacy has been mentioned, but I want to throw in my support for it. More specifically, for We Katamari!

You're right about SH4 being planned as a SH game originally. I dislike the gameplay of SH4 very much, but it has a great story though. Walter Sullivan!
SH2 seems to be the most popular of them, which is because of the story and the psychological background. My favourite is the third 'cause it's the darkest and the creepiest, too.

All the Silent Hill games have been pretty damn good. You just can't beat Pyramid Head. If they make a SH5, it's gonna look so damn fine on a PS3.
On a side note, i've been crying over how bad suikoden 5 is and how it will never measure up to the second game.
I'm looking forward to Resi 5 as well.

Both major Katamari games. Neverwinter Nights. Final Fantasy, particularly 6 and 10. (I also liked X-2, making me one of the few people in the world who can say this.) Chrono Trigger. Disgaea.
There are scads of other games that are "merely" very solid. So as not to bore everyone, though, I'll just mention one: Thief: Deadly Shadows. Maybe not the whole game, though as I say it's very solid, but... well, fans know the real reason it has to go on this list.

X-2 fans unite! And I like the dress spheres. xD We are indeed a minority.

A Sony girl right here (and has recently stumbled into trouble for her ultimate plan to acheive the PS3 but, that's another story). I like my roleplays which obviously includes Final Fantasy (8 is my favorite) but Xenosaga, Star Ocean, and various others sit in that genre. I'm an avid horror fanatic. I've played Silent Hill, Clock Tower (my personal favorite horror series), Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose, Siren, Fatal Frame, etc. Yet, I also enjoy unique games like Indigo Prophecy and the likes.
Recently, I've been into PC games which is completely unlike me (the only time I ever attempted to play on the computer was with Final Fantasy 11). Only beginning around this week have I jumped onto the Sims band-wagon (sadly); I always played it on console; however, it was never as... controlling of my life.

It's all about Tetris and Puzzle Fighter. Give me a puzzle game and I will be amused for hours on end.

Just a few of my all-time favorites (some oldschool ones, some newer):
Kingdom Hearts 2
Dead or Alive 2&3 (I always play Kasumi, rarely defeated)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (always play as Princess Peach, only defeated once)
We Katamari
Dance Dance Revolution
Super Mario 64
Star Fox 64
Mario Kart 64
Aladdin (for the SNES)
the point-and-click flash game series that includes Crimson Room, Viridian Room, and Blue Chamber
another point-and-click flash game, Mystery of Time and Space (or MOTAS)
Banjo-Kazooie
Nanaca Crash! (a bizarre flash game)
Pokemon Puzzle Challenge
Pokemon Silver
One that I desperately want but haven't gotten yet: Rule of Rose. It looks fantastic.

Suikoden II, yes!
I was lucky to find a copy of it a few years back (it's incredibly hard to find Suikoden games in Australia), and fell in love with it. I've probably played through three or four times, and always enjoy it.
I'm rather disappointed to hear that 5 isn't any good, though
Other than Suikoden,
Onimusha series (awful story, but fun fighting system, and Takeshi Kaneshiro )
Final Fantasy series (especially V, VI and X... but not X-2)
Soul Calibur 3
Metal Gear Solid
Kingdom Hearts
A bunch of old, semi-obscure PS1 RPG titles
Unfortunately, university takes up too much time and I don't get to play so many games anymore, so I'm kind of out of the loop on new releases.

Thank you! a Suikoden 2 fan!!! I think i wouldn't have been as disappointed about 5 if they hadn't hyped it up as 'THE SUCESSOR TO SUIKODEN 2' (which it wasn't).
Yeah the Thief games are so addictive. Love Garret's cheezy voice and shooting people in the back with broadhead arrows.
Can't believe they didn't release Katamari Damacy in the UK...
I totally love playing the Sakura Taisen series, which is about as obscure as you get over in Limey country.
I'm glad Kanashimi mentioned Haunting Ground which is a really damn good game. Rule of Rose hasn't come out yet here but i'm dying to play it.

Holy crap, adding to the Suikoden 2 love. Oh, Shu. I wish I hadn't sold my copy. (Or my copy of Final Fantasy Tactics, crap.)
I burned so so soooo many hours on Suikoden 2, and I never did get all the people. I loved the way they started with the maniac violent villain and went over to the cool manipulative one. (I loved the burning town where Luca was like BEG, SQUEAL LIKE A PIG AND YOU'LL LIVE so the villager does this and he kills them anyway. What a maniac. )

ah, Luca Blight. I love any man who's that insane. He could make me squeal like a pig anyday~
I'm a bit sad that in MGS4, Snake dies. Why would a man that fine shoot himself? He has a porno 'tache too...

Even old he's hot, I don't understand how Snake can pull it off.

Oh, wow, I can't believe I forgot Metal Gear---just finished playing Substance again. The Metal Gear Solid 4 trailers are a mind-blower though.
MGS2 wasn't that bad, but I didn't like Raiden.
But Snake Eater is rocks completely! It's my absolute favourite from the series. It was so cool how they put the story in a historical context, added all those new features and made plot twists till the very end.
And there was The Joy! I wish I could play that game again.
And MGS4 seems quite interesting, I can't wait to see more trailers and news about it.

I could spend hours designing characters after third world despots in SC3, but other than that I abandoned gaming after the dreamcast tanked.
Oh yeah, and I play Maple Story sometimes when I think I'm feeling too happy with humanity.

My current gaming obsession is The Sims 2... I somehow managed to find a way to make my Utena obsession and The Sims obession come together as one by creating Utena sims of... Just about every single character. (Utena, Anthy, Juri, Shiori (of course,) Akio, Touga, Saionji, Miki, Nanami, Kozue, Wakaba, Kanae, Keiko, and Ruka.) I've put more hours than I can count into making them. I put 30 hours of failed attempts alone into Juri's hair before I managed to get it just right, and so by the time I finished I was about ready to kill her in sheer frustration. (Don't worry, I didn't.)
Anyone who has played any of The Sims games knows that the player is decides whether their sims live happily ever after, or suffer a fate worse than death shortly followed by death. So what's it like to have that kind of control over the lives of the character from Utena...?
Very, very fun.
I have a million stories about all the crazy things my Utena sims have done. Like the time Akio caught Anthy and Utena together on a date and decided to steal their newspaper for a week. (Actually, that happens a lot. Anthy and Utena can't keep their hands off each other for more than five minutes.) Or the time when Juri set the house on fire last week, scaring me half to death with the idea of seeing Shiori die. (Fires happen a lot... I swear, Kozue sets fires just to piss me off. And the very first thing that happened when I created Touga, Saionji, and Wakaba was that Touga set the house on fire, and Wakaba and Saionji were killed.) And just the other day, either caused by a glitch or something in the new expansion pack, Nanami and Juri started making out, despite having no history together, and they weren't even in love, just to piss Shiori off. (Fine! I hope they'll be very happy together! D:<)
Maybe I'll make a thread about my Utena sims when I get the chance. But there are so many stories that I can't possibly keep it a reasonable length. Oh, and I'll probably publish these sims so that other people can use them some time soon... But for now there are a few that are already made on thesims2.com.

Why must the Sega systems die such horrible miserable deaths. I loved the Genesis. It did alright. But then I loved the Sega Saturn. And then I loved the Dreamcast. And they died.
I maintain some of the best games ever were released on the damned Sega systems. Panzer Dragoon. Astal. Lunar.
