This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
So, guys...who's playing this November?

I'm still making up my mind, but I'm leaning towards doing it. I'm a little edgy about commitment, but I usually don't commit until right before it starts, and I'm 2 for 2 thus far.

I'm thinking about trying it out for the first time. Its a beast I want to conquer at some point in my life so why not while I'm young?

I wrote Nanowrimo last year and it didn't go so well. New year, new plans. This year I'm going to write story about shaman girl... And that's all I know.
Feel free to friend me.

I'm actually giving NaNo a real chance this year. Last time I tried it, when I was still in high school, my energy petered out in the first week. My roommate's going for it as well this time, so we'll cheer each other on.
Maybe that 50,000 words won't be so elusive this time...

The number 1 rule of Nano: Don't read what you've written until December 1. Just keep writing! I think this is the issue a lot people start making. Nano isn't about quality, it's about getting the largest quantity of the work done, and then you can actually make it good later on.

This year will be my first time! I'm so excited for November to come.

I just activated my account for this year. Ah! What was I thinking! My perfect 2-0 record might get tarnished this year. The creative juices just don't seem to be flowing. I'm sure I'll figure out something though, hopefully. I have an idea, just not sure I have the pieces in my head to make it work. I need to get to rereading my previous 2 stories.

I attempted it last year, but I only wrote about 5,000 words before stress and apathy forced me to give up. I also have a very concise writing style, due to my journalism background, and that was another obstacle. If I allow myself to be a little wordy, I should fare better.
If I can at least double the number of words that I wrote last year, I'll be happy. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm writing about, and I'm excited to see how my ideas pan out.
Here's my official NaNo profile, if you'd like to friend me.

Ooh, good to see there's a few of us going for it! I'm looking quite forward to it this year, really; I'm working on something I have already been writing, but as work is getting me down right now, along with family stress and exam woes, by the time November rolls around I will really need to have something to relax to. NaNo works for me! My profile is here if you want to be buddies.

I'm supposed to write an 8 page essay on the National Housing Project that's due mid-November, but fuck it all, I'm still trying!!
Question: Does anyone participate in the live gatherings/workshops? I want to go but I'm kind of hesitant about it.
My profile is here.

I am making a weak attempt this year! I failed horribly last year, but I'm taking a slightly different approach this time. I have several of you added from the previous round, but for the few I do not, here's my profile.

I'm going to be in the term paper crush and won't be trying my hand at novels, but I think I'll try to observe NaNoWriMo by editing and self-publishing my road trip blog from 2009. I'd like a bound copy to put on my bookshelf

Sweetie, since I'm doing the editing thing on games, I wouldn't mind another editing project as part of my portfolio of work. Tell me if you want some free editing.

That's very sweet, Yasha I might take you up on it, but not yet. Part of the meaning of the road trip, to me, was that I could do it by myself -- though of course I was very grateful for the hospitality of many generous friends along the way! I wouldn't feel right giving it to anyone else to edit until I was sure it was as good as I could get it by myself. Thank you, though! -- and congratulations again on the job

I'm playing! Writing an Utena crossover, no less.

Oooh... should I do it this year... I have no exams to worry about on November, save for the 2 papers and weekly homework assignments from this one class....
What's the usual time commitment for nano for most people from a day-to-day basis?
Offline
The time commitment depends entirely on the writer. To get to 50k you have to write at least 1667 words a day. Some people take all day to write that many words. I could do it in half an hour, probably, but I am the queen of procrastination. Honestly, it depends on the writer and the story, there's no real way of measuring it. I'd assume you'd need at least a couple of hours a day, although obviously you can work more some days and less others depending on what's going on...

I'm gonna be doing some psuedo-NaNo thing in an attempt to get my butt writing some one-shot fic ideas I've had for a while now. Not to mention at least one essay.

Since week 3 is going to be pretty much impossible to write during (3 days of conferences to attend, and houseguest from Monday night through Thursday), I'm trying to get as much written as I can. Day one total (at least for now): 4195.

Day 1: 2045
I started this well last time, but I've got a better focus this time. If I can just get to the meat of this and avoid getting sidetracked, I've got a really good shot at it this time, I think.
