This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
Also, another disney thing
I was reading aladdin to my little sis, and at some part Jafar banished Aladdin to the Ends of the World... I tried so hard not to completely fall apart...
All I could think is "NO! Not Aladdin! He's far too young for 'tea time' with the Chairman!"

I'd kind of like to see that, actually...

A little while ago I watched In the Company of Wolves, which is this creepy fairy-tale horror film with bucketloads of symbolism, mostly about implied sex. Yeah, I ended up thinking about Utena pretty much the whole time. Although, really, vampire does suit Akio much better than werewolf.

I just saw a poptarts commercial, where houses popped up, built out of poptarts, and frosted themselves.
All I could think of was OH GOD THEY'RE GONNA CATCH ON FIRE AND BLAME THE KIDS AND ITS ALL MIKAGE'S FAULT

Monday was rain in a sunny day and I remember SKU XD
Also there was some kind of marriage proposition on the anime convenction I went that monday and it was so freak with phrases like: Live its like a online game but more realistic...and....I will never forget the fist time you look me into the eyes and told me: are you an otaku?
...
That I was messing arround telling: oh would you be my rose bride? I promise I will change the world for you...

I was putting some old school books away and had one from a 20th Century British Lit course from a year ago and on deliberate whim opened it at random, landing on an excerpt from 'A Room of One's Own' by Virginia Woolf. She had quoted an excerpt of a poem from Alfred Tennyson, just a few lines:
From Woolf: page 12
"And here I found Tennyson singing:
There has fallen a splendid tear
From the passion-flower at the gate.
She is coming, my dove, my dear;
She is coming, my life, my fate;
The red rose cries, "She is near, she is near;"
And the white rose weeps, "She is late;"
The larkspur listens, "I hear, I hear;"
And the lily whispers, "I wait."
The whole poem brings a lot of SKU imagery to mind it is the second one of this set of selections.
I think the fact that it was found from Woolf and that it is from Room of One's Own is enough to make me think of SKU in regards to sex and gender and what a girl is, isn't, can and can't do, according to old norms.

Apparently the name of the CEO of Toyota is Akio. I jumped a mile when I heard it on the TV. Unfortunately...not nearly as sexy.

I ate strawberry and rose flavored ice cream yesterday. It was...odd. I wasn't aware that rose could be made an ice cream flavor but it reminded me a bit of that rose jam Akio makes in one episode. If there was ice cream stocked at Ohtori, it would probably be rose flavor.

I had the same reaction. I wonder if his name uses the same Kanji?

I did this too.

I just saw this visual connection now (intentional or not, I was like, huh?)
It's just Mikage and Tokiko...but then you look...and all of a sudden...
...It's John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
I'm never going to listen to Imagine the same way ever again. Scratch that. I'll never think of John Lennon ever the same way again. I need Brain Bleach to stop these mental images of Mikage singing Imagine, though, as well as to stop images of Lennon burning down buildings with people inside. It's so horrible. :buries face in hands: Why, Mr. Lennon? You were such a gentle soul.
Why must SKU invade everything I come across?
edit: I really want to do an AMV now with the Beatles and Mikage.

The sound of Bells and the hallways of a church.
The bell's reason is a little obviously, still I dunno why the hallway's motivation.

Well, not believing in waste, I figure with this horrific revelation, I can have some fun with it.
I need to get the BR Arc on my comp first and then maybe I can work on Imagine and Day in the Life featuring Mikage and his wonderful world.

May I suggest Norwegian wood?
The final lyrics are:
So, I lit a fire, isn't it good, Norwegian wood...
Coincidence?

Brilliant idea. No coincidence there.
Browsing Hoyt's out of utter loss of how to spend a late night. Came upon this quote:
Then gazing up ’mid the dim pillars high,
The foliaged marble forest where ye lie,
Hush, ye will say, it is eternity!
This is the glimmering verge of heaven, and there
The columns of the heavenly palaces.
Matthew Arnold—The Tomb.
Totally made me think of Utena entering the forest arena and ascending the heavens to the dueling arena under eternity's own 'heavenly palace.'
Many of the other listed quotes put SKU's concept of eternity into perspective, resurrecting and immortalizing the past in the present and future.

Rose rings. Target's been selling a bunch lately and I'm all like, "I MUST REVOLUTIONIZE THE WORLD." And my friends stare at me blankly.
My campus has a chapel with the old-style bells. Every time the bells sound, I actually get a little unnerved because all I can think is that someone is dueling.
Roses in general, I suppose.
Also, shirts with french cuffs. Because all the duelists in Utena have AWESOME cuffs.
And finally, my hair is cut like Miki's, length somewhere in between movie and TV version. So, every time I look in the mirror.

Oh dammit, those images up there never loaded when I came to this thread, and now I can't unsee Tokiko as Yoko Ono.
I used to like Tokiko. Until now. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT.
(Clearly, my hissing and spitting due to Yoko Ono isn't as widespread. But man, I can't stand that woman.)
...I started an amv to Eleanor Rigby. But I was being such a perfectionistic asshole that I was spending UNGODLY amounts of time on each SECOND. So yeah, I didn't finish due to getting really bored with it.

^ I do things like that because I relish putting you good people through misery. mwahahaha.
"All men have a blade in their heart. The purer the heart, the keener the blade." - Gankutsuou
If that doesn't scream SKU, I don't know what does. Hell, if someone went up to me and was like "Hey, why do people have swords pulled out of their chests in Utena and why does Utena get the Sword of Dios pulled from her chest?" I could just quote that.
