This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I have one for my business. I also post geeky stuff i find on the tubes.

Ugh. I need to post here (as in IRG, not tumblr) more often, instead of just lurking. .__.

I'm afraid I am a backwards traditionalist. It's LJ for me. I do have a tumblr account though, to make it easier to follow certain users. (Ask lil' Miss Rarity goes off!)

I just got a tumblr about a week ago and I'll add all of you.
Tumblr needs more Ikuhara.

I was wondering if the person who added me was someone who liked Utena, because first thing I saw on your tumblr was a quote from Ikuni
Hey there! I shall add you back soon!

http://taotehspoon.tumblr.com/ I've gotten lazy with updates, lately, though. I try to follow back, but again, laziness.

I made a tumblr today, I don't really know what I should be doing, so I'm just gonna follow everyone 'w'

I have one.
NO points for guessing what my username is.
I should do more with it, other than treating it as "Picspam: The Blog". Mostly.

Wowow, how is the LJ community these days? I haven't been on there in a couple years and was just thinking about it recently.

Wep. Sorry about the delay in replying; I completely forgot to check the thread.
LJ is still...LJ. I think all things considered it's seen as a pretty traditional sort of platform, which is true enough. Personally I find it very easy to navigate through and find what I'm looking for, but then it's probably dependent on what you're after.
As for the communities...depends on the communities, really. Hellsing was an obscenely huge fandom up until the manga ended. Then it gradually collapsed in on itself. The BBC Sherlock communities are pretty huge. But if you want mind numbing, pants wetting terror, try looking up the Supernatural communities. Holy crap!
I personally started a cryptozoology com this week and have posted a few times. The old crypto com hadn't been updated in about a year, and when I tried to post it came up as a moderator approval setting. Then I went back and checked the mods' profiles, and none of them have been updated for at least as long, so I think it's safe to say that the com's dead. I haven't gotten any hits yet, but I'm happy just to chill and post whatever comes to mind. It's been really good in that writing the articles has been good for getting me to write in general, so that's pretty good. My memory is starting to come up with holes lately so having something like that is a helpful thing to have around.
As for Utena...I honestly can't say. I'm watching the icon community but that's about it. IRG keeps me well supplied with Utena goodness.
So yes. All things considered LJ is weathering the blog/personal website storm quite well. Going by the amount of ads they've slapped over everything, they're definitely paying for the servers several thousand times over...

I think what is keeping LJ afloat is that they are still one of the better writing platforms, be it for a blog or for novels and fanfiction. Tumblr is more for images and articles, and doesn't navigate well for multi-chaptered stories. Customizable layouts and some weird personal choices made regarding such aside, its also a lot easier on the eyes as far as reading goes. And unlike fanfiction.net there are not many restrictions on subject matter and age appropriateness (???did they change this, I feel like I remember some sort of controversy over it???) that can get your writing taking down along with your account.

I've also been trying to put my Seinen Utena Fic right onto my LJ posts. However, the LJ cut (the button they had while we edit our post) fails me every single time. There's also this "post too large" error thing going on that prevents me from putting my chapters (averaging 6000 words plus each) onto even my own LJ blog. It seems so easy to use for everyone but myself and that's really bugging me.
So far, my fic stays on my ad-free blogspot and fanfiction.net. I'm still eagerly awaiting for my invite into Archive of Our Own, which should happen like early July.

Sometimes the cut would appear not to work for me, but then I'd go to my journal and look at my posts on my friend's page, etc, and it would work fine.

Thanks for the advice, Only In this Light, I might try and play with it more later, maybe as soon as I bypass the "post too long" error thing on LJ.
P.S. I think I'm getting the hang of it now, I wonder if my fanfic posts on http://gorgeousshutin.livejournal.com/ now look as "normal" on others' computers as they do on mine?
P.P.S Now if I can get that reblog button showing up on my tumblr posts (http://gorgeousshutin.tumblr.com/), or that I'd actually find out HOW to correctly post using tumblr, I'd be all set

Yes, I have one: http://demonpyromaniac.tumblr.com/
I do have some Utena stuff on there, but I've gotten really into The Legend of Korra fandom lately so there's lots of that stuff on there. (I ship Korrasami.) There's also some Dragon Ball Z and Puella Magi Madoka Magica stuff on there and whatever other stuff I liked enough to post or reblog. There is some NSFW on there, so treed with caution.
