This is a static copy of In the Rose Garden, which existed as the center of the western Utena fandom for years. Enjoy. :)
I've been searching the depths of twitter to find any screenshots or photos of the packaging and booklet. I was not disappointed. They also had food and drinks at the events, apparently.

The new character art looks great and I can't wait to see what the bluray version looks like compared to the previous remaster.
Oh for god sake Madman entertainment, release the Tv series in australia and start re-releasing the Evangelion platinum collection in australia because I can't find it anywhere.

... ... I'm increasingly getting to think that despite the facts that a) I live in the UK, b) I don't have any kind of Blu-Ray player, and c) I'm not exactly super rich, I could be a little tempted to consider splurging a few hundred pounds on these boxsets. If nothing else, seeing photos of the beautiful new cover art and nifty-looking booklet is making me drool.
LOL at the Anthy parfait. (Though the laughs become a bit uncomfortable when I see that sword in there...) And Saito's renditions of the staff are as cute as ever.
Let's not forget that the latter boxset comes out at the end of February! Most likely, there'll be more pretty new artwork to go along with it. :3

Did I see an Anthy iced drink for 580 yen in Seen's post upthread? Talk about an Akio favorite . . .

We finally have comparison screenshots of the DVDs and BDs. It looks FANTASTIC.

Yes, they say that the third time is a charm; but honestly . . . nothing short of Ikuhara serving me the Anthy parfait/drink himself - and promising a foot rub while he's at it - can get me to pay $ for the exact same series a third time.

Sell the old copies or something. This is at the levels of Ghibli movies BluRay remasters.
Also, the image above is a parfait. THIS is the drink:

I so wish it could be designed to resemble the iced drink Akio was sipping from EP 39, but oh well.

What a shameless cash grab. By the same token, awesome. I'm glad that SKU is deemed worth this kind of attention in Japan. I wonder if similar things are being done with other anime from that era?
The merchandise is amazing. The reproduction cels are...well...how the hell do I get them?

...it actually looks like there's more noise on the Blu-Ray.

PREPARE FOR MORE IMAGEDUMPS
Here's the art for the second box. I wonder if we'll be getting new Saito artwork with it.

How? Look at the artifacts smudging up the image on the DVD. Plus, if they went on a grain-removing crusade, the lines and details would be destroyed.

Original: A pleasing impressionist style. Solid colors.
Blu-Ray: Someone graffiti'd a wall of Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Also, the actual version of that first screencap.
Looks rather different, eh?

This looks awesome!
But...
Will Utena ever, ever be released in the UK?

Hmm, I got to admit I'm a little confused by what you mean.

I'm a bullshit artist. So is Seen. But I'm not the one trying to trick you out of your money.

I wonder what they'll be doing to top this the next time around. A 3D enhanced version, perhaps?

Hmm, not sure I can imagine that looking good.

Well, I'd always wondered how would the upside down castle look in 3D . . .

That could be neat, especially with some updated cgi... uh, now I'm imagining the whole show in 3D CGI, though I doubt those buggy shoujo eyes would carry over well.

A lot of Akio/Ohtori's seductive charms lies in (delusion of) grandeur: the lavish Tower and Planetarium, the expensive red cars, the arena, the "sword drawing" sequences, the staircase, the elevators . . . all these "grand" elements could benefit from updated cgi.
As for the characters . . . well, they could give it that "Gankutsuou" treatment and keep the faces the same, while giving cgi textures to their hair and clothes (umm . . . 3D Anthy unbound hair).

What?
I'm just posting the pictures I find while searching the internet. I'm not the one making them. Who the hell are you to go and accuse me of being a goddamn con artist!?

Because you posted a deliberately misleading screencap that showed the DVD as glitchy and pixelated. I corrected your error.

Oh, I think I get it, now.
The DVD screen caps are from the R1 DVDs. They're probably lowered in quality so that they can sell them at a cheaper price over here without hurting the Japanese sales. Japanese people won't reverse import this way to spend less money on the DVDs.
Honestly, the Japanese entertainment industry needs to sell their things at lower prices (and not $60 for a DVD with two episodes a disk) to avoid this. They'd probably have higher sales, too.

The new movie art is beyond gorgeous.
